            • @AlienC: They give you a code to label the bags. I write it on a bit of packing tape and stick it to the bag. I've put the bags, sometimes in a trailer in my driveway or at bottom or my driveway inside property line, or in front of garage doors. As those bin liners are a bit fragile I usually put as close to street as I can to reduce their handling. You will be advised of a general pickup time.

              • @tonka: Ah I see nice.

Would it be okay you reckon to double bag the bottles or would they see it as a hindrance you reckon?

edit: damn according to this link https://re-collect.com.au/recycling/beverages I think my coles 2L juice bottles that have been repurposes as water bottles might not be allowed and there for not collected.. same with the 2L coles milk containers.. so only my 1.25L coca cola bottles might be accepted this reduces my compatibility a ton unfortunately

I contacted them via the website form but I think my area won't be under service but fingers crossed.

                • @AlienC: Can't see them having a problem with double bagging. I don't like it though, as I feel it defeats the spirit of recycling. If you have heavier glass bottles you can also put the empties back in the carton and leave that out. Personally I think the whole deposit scheme is a fail as it creates a huge amount of extra plastic waste that's non-recyclable through the bagging, and I don't believe it would redirect many containers towards recycling. Also it creates more emissions through the logistics of implementing it. Personally I think it's a disguised tax to supplement the waste industry and create jobs.

@tonka: Yeah it does feel a bit too good to be true.

Or very beauty is only skin deep type of scheme fiasco.

                • @AlienC: I think 1.5L is the limit for rebates.

                  • @ProlapsedHeinous: ah damn I have a mix of 2L and 3L bottles now I just been using it to store cooking oil to throw away for now and basically anything else that should not go down the sink/drain

  • These guys withdrew from my area without telling me and the app still let me book. Had to contact them why it wasn't collected and after a few days they say "we readjusted our service zone" - no apology but as a "measure of good will" they gave me a code that will give me a 100% refund on my next collection… For a place that they no longer service.

    • What’s the code? Maybe it’ll work for me haha

  • Essentially we’re going halves, NSW Government at least pay 4c/unit to these companies to process these containers, plus the 3c fee charged we are going 50/50.

    Not a bad business model.

  • Real deal seems to be the referral haha

  • In case people are unaware with the container for change scheme. The purchaser pays for the scheme. Good Sammy has the best explanation. You actually pay 16 cents. 10 cents goes to you and 6 cents goes to the refund point.

Note Good Sammy rounded the numbers. So, the actual amount can be found on warrrl website.

So those who want milk containers and wine bottles to be included you can expect the price of goods to go up more than 10 cents.

Note these facts are based for WA. Other states might be different but most likely the same.

  • My local collect point is often full so rocking up with a bag full of containers only to have to cart them back home is annoying. Also the premises smells like rats p*ss because no one cleans out their containers before depositing. Extra fragrant on +20C days.

3c per item is sounding quite appealing.

  • In SA, which has been recycling bottles and cans since 1977, I have a bin provided for free which we fill up and the company come and swap for a clean bin and deposit $ into our bank account, 7c per container. Beats having bags of cans around and putting them in the car.

  • Why isnt this in vic

    • It is now. Melbourne wasn't in the footprint when this deal was originally posted. The OP needs to update this post.

  • 10c is just a small amount comparing to the drink itself and the cost of living. Haven't factor the fact that we pay extra when we buy the drink. The idea is more of to get everyone aware of the recycling and reduce the waste into the land field and ocean, by giving back 10c as a reward.

  • Who gets paid if you put them in regular recycle bin?

    • I think the way it works is environmental agency charges 10c levy per bottle/can/carton (or something like that), drink manufacturers simply pass it on to consumers (consumer paid the 10c).

When consumer recycles, they get back the 10c from recycle operators, who will then claim it back from the environmental agency.

So, when a consumer throws away a bottle, environmental agency keeps the 10c.

Obviously it's not going to be 10c, the recycle program costs money to run (equipment, maintenance, transport, fuel, labour, utilities, etc), so there must be some sort of subsidies going on somewhere.

I have a 240l bin and it’s collected every 5-6 weeks after fees that’s about $28 in my pocket so well worth it.
Had to pay a deposit $20 for the big blue bin and an empty is replace at each pick up. In WA we are using an app called Recycle 4 Refund.

    • Interesting. Do they charge 3c or a fee (or do you get 10c/container)?

      • It’s simple 3Cent Per Container.

  • Still better than going there yourself to find it out of order or already full. Or there is one machine working with a long line

  • Man Australia has a lot of bullshit jobs… Between NDIS and shit like this it makes you wonder if we are actually creating any real jobs… Or just fake stuff like let's tax people 10c a can, then employee thousands of people to pickup/sort/ send off to probably some offshore recycling centre.

  • They also service parts of Melbourne, so perhaps you should add VIC to the title.

  • Do these guys allow crushed cans? Its not really worth for me if I need to keep cans uncrushed as space is an issue.

    • I think the machine’s only takes non-crushed cans only.

  • Anyone know how I can dispose of a large glass table? in NSW thanks

Besides smashing it and throwing in the bin

  • Can someone clarify

it says in app "how much are we picking up"

Beverage container bag (how big is a bag? do I put 30-50 plastic bottles in 1 big garbage bag???)
Beverage container case (again how man can I put in? Do I use a carboard box?)
240l bin (um do they just empty your bin, surely they don't take it right lol!)

It says on website a minimum of 300 containers! (is that plastic bottles (soft drinks) and glass bottles, what about plastic containers?

needs to be a sticky FAQ

  • A good initiative

  • I have found the service reasonably good. I wish there was a better option than using plastic bags to bag recycling to save waste. It's moronic. I have bought a wheelie bin with my refund money, There is an option to book a bin pick-up on their site, No-one there answers their messages to let me know how I can make that work. Re-collect, fix your website and get some customer service.

    Check the above for Vic

  • Please note they have changed the minimum number of containers from 150 to 300.

  • Better than some old guy going through everyone’s bin every bin day. At least put the rest of the rubbish back in the bin after taking all the bottles and cans omfg.

  • I just use containers for change Queensland with their free home pickup. No cost to me

  • Booked 1st service this week, unfortunately no1 turned up. Terrible service.
