Great opportunity to slip it into your tax today. I know the 3S is coming out in Aus but this price is pretty hard to beat on the last day of the FY.

Walked into OW and was able to price beat as Dick Smith is offering free delivery today.

    Suggestion, get it from OW

    • Yep definitely! Other option is available for those without an OW nearby or no stock.

I love the MX Master series and have recommended it to people for years, but I recently switched to an Apple Silicon Mac and noticed it just doesn't seem to work nearly as well as the Apple trackpads (especially paired with BetterTouchTool). Quite a few people running into issues with gesture functionality using the MX Master, scrolling is imprecise and jagged and moving around the OS is more cumbersome compared to the trackpad.

I'd recommend a Magic Trackpad over the MX Master if you're on Mac - but on Windows, it is still the king. MX Keys (both mech and non-mech) still ace for a keyboard too!

I m using the MX master 3 on m1 pro and no issue identified at the moment. Having been using it for more than 3 months.
      Try updating the MX options?

      • +1

Interesting - I upgraded to Options+ which is meant to be optimised for Apple Silicon and unfortunately still running into issues, as are other people based on the Reddit posts I've come across.

That said, I would say the recommendation for the trackpad stands independently of the issues I've been experiencing. I think the trackpad provides a better experience with the gestures than any mouse, and allows me to move around the OS far more naturally than the gesture functionality on the MX Master - but obviously this is subjective.

        • I am still sticking with Options at the moment as I find it quite stable.
in intel MacBook I found that from time to time the custom gestures and smooth scrolling are not responding.
But then it's actually so far so good, no complains and probably you can try Options ;)

I do like the trackpad too, but I would also integrate using the hot corners to do App Exposé or Mission control while I am with my mouse.
and I do add gestures on my MX3 like, dragging right with thumb button to refresh my webpage, dragging left to reopen closed tab with BetterTouchTool.

Lots of fun with the MX3 and can't complain!

@theoscat: Glad to hear it's working well, it's still my favourite mouse - I've owned every generation so far!

        • +1

It took me quite a while to get it right but with Options+ I managed to get it working completely the way I like it. I still haven't gotten the scroll wheel right though.

I use the gestures button to bring up Expose, and hold it down and swipe left/right to swipe between desktops - had to remove up and down gestures as I found that to be inconsistent. Shortcut buttons are copy and paste mostly, and the side scroll wheel as the back and forward button in browsers or scroll in excel. Middle button to scroll through tabs.

I find these settings make the experience very close to the trackpad.

can you get headshots on a trackpad?

      • +7

Not a lot of people who care about headshots end up with Mac or a wireless productivity mouse.

Besides, everyone knows that air holes and RGB increase accuracy by 25-45%.

        • +1

i use a macbook everyday as a programmer and i find productivity on the trackpad is very low compare to a traditional mouse.

          • @SS625: I work in tech and it was actually a few programmers in my team who told me that they find the trackpad far better than a mouse for work. I initially thought it was ridiculous, until I started using the Mac and appreciated the fluidity of the gestures and the additional controls offered via BetterTouchTool.

That said, I have been thinking of use cases where a mouse would be better and I think programming and certain graphics tasks (the pen tool in illustrator for example) could be better with the mouse due to the better level of precision.

            Nice to have both options!

    Unfortunately not wired :(

    • +1

Why would you want a wired option? It comes with a USB dongle if you can't use Bluetooth?

      • +1

Latency and Bluetooth interference with headphones or other Bluetooth devices in the office. Also avoiding the hassle of recharging/batteries.

        • I believe you can use it as plugged in as well to usb port, atleast I can on my MX master 2. Been holding off for 3s so will give this one a miss.

          • +3

@ace310: plugging in the usb only charges the mouse, it's still works as a wireless mouse.

          • @ace310: Unfortunately not on the 3. Only charged while plugged in.

        • +4

i think if that is your main concern then you have missed the point of this mouse…

      • several points for wired…

        1) not another EMF field around me
        2) no risk of running out of battery during presentation etc.
        3) more reliable.. they usually last longer

    • +1

Damn, I thought it was still 2010 for a second there.
Nope, definitely 2022 where a good wireless mouse has no perceivable latency over wired mice.

Hot tip: Cable drag will be more of a hinderance than the 'additional' latency which we all believe you can feel when using a wireless mouse.

  • Great mouse, highly recommended.

Could pair it with this $15 Bonus Dick Smith Card with $100 Dick Smith Gift Card Purchase @ ShopBack

$100 spend plus $15 bonus pays for express shipping, leaves you with a tax invoice for $114, $1 credit with Dick and $2 cashback.

Expensive, but 100% worth it. I have extremely high usage of this mouse in my daily work and I would say - it is one of the best investment I have ever made to increase productivity.

    • I have used the 2S since mid 2018 (4 years of use) and that was $100 then. At $25 a year with 90% usage for the whole year, that's 7.6c a day. That's honestly super worth it. Secondary scroll wheel, extra buttons and combined with Logitech Options is great.

      • +2

I always used ordinary mouse before switching to this one a year ago and always thought these were overpriced. But nah, they do super good job and worth every Penny.

Some of my favorite features are:
USB-C charging, battery life, one-click to switch between three devices, super-fast scroll, Logitech flow

Your calculations could be very encouraging for others to spend on this though

  • Tried both, don't like this giant thing at all.

    Can't recommend the M720 enough - it's my "forever mouse" - seriously, it's a wonderful thing.

    • +1

      Personally, I like it big.

Small mice aren't nice for me.

  • Will these direct import products have issues with claiming warranty?

  • officeworks price beats kogan??!

  • Tried to price beat at OW Malaga in Perth, no deal, saying it’s not Aus stock and the best deal was $117.50.

    • Try over the phone. I just did it successfully. Free delivery.

    • I did mine in the CBD, and it was fine. You could try in the city or call up another store?

      • Tried calling, same thing. Heading to the City store in 3 2 1 … Thanks @nuggets and @somewherewest.

  • I wish they would make a vertical version of this mouse. I love the ergonomics of my MX Vertical, but it's not quite as feature rich, nor as premium as the MX Master.

  • OW price match confirmed. In and out within 5 minutes.
The MX Master 3 Mac edition is $105 anyway if someone was looking for that model too.

  • Tried to price beat with two OW in Melbourne without any luck - both asked to check the Dicksmith website which showed it as Direct Import (Grey Import) stock

    • +1

Try over the phone. I just did the price beat.

The staff in store are wrong, as there is no exclusion on their website mentioning that grey imports are not eligible for price beat.

      See this previous deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/399699

      • Cheers for sending that through - I tried calling up and got told no again to Dicksmith products, has to match exact product numbers… Can't say I didn't try

  • Ok, so beautiful and so powerful. this is the best mouse that I have used.
