Electric Blanket Recommendations - Keep Failing on Me

Hiii

Anyone recommend any branded electric blankets?

The last twelve boar, I think have all stopped working after one year!

So I'm thinking I either buy $50 electric blankets, or spend a little bit more and look for brands with more than 2 years warranty so at least I can claim!

It's happened 3 times in a row, different brands.

Thanks

    Stop peeing the bed

  • Have you tried a throw type blanket that goes on top of you instead of between you and the bed?

  • I use a fitted electric sheet I think was from Target. Have had it for 2-3 years, gets used daily in winter. No issues

I use the Aldi 9 heat setting electric blanket and it has lasted so far 3 years. I find the controls are the things that stuff up.

It may be how you store it in summer as you do not want to pinch the heating cables, so I roll it over and over and then put it in a vac bag where I take out just enough air so that outside of the bag is snug against the blanket so that there is still air in the blanket.

    • If it’s this one, you better return it. Otherwise you have a goodie

      • The recall is for the three heat setting one from around ten years ago, not 3 years.

There were a number of electric blanket recalls around that time as the factory that made them produced the faulty ones for a number of retailers.

There is an IT term called PEBCAK, sometimes it isn't an issue with the product…

  • Silly question, but how do people use these blankets?

Layered between the bed sheet and mattress? Do you put a mattress topper above it if you use one? Do you sleep with it on or just to preheat the bed?

      Under the sheet,
should only use it to pre-heat the bed and turn off when getting into bed, but a lot of people leave it on low all night.
I do not think leaving it on all night is healthy, plus it can be a hazard, specially if you forget to turn it off.

Use flannel sheets, they will change your life

  • I used to think i cannot survive without an electric blanket. But I used to get burning sensation on my skin and also I feel electric blanket is not healthy or safe. Now I have been using thick multiple layers of blankets from past 3 years and I dont miss electric blankets at all.

  • I'm wondering if perhaps it's more to do with your electrical outlet or your cabling arrangement, rather than the electric blankets.

Similar story: Years ago, my folks were complaining that their steam irons were dying every few months. I noticed the outlet was old, they got it replaced, haven't had a single iron fail since.

  • Had an electric blanket and was happy with it for years until the fabric of it suffered damage that exposed the cable inside.

Bought whatever Woolworths had on the shelf. I think the brand was Jason. Wasn't happy with it. Its lowest setting wasn't low enough to leave it on all night. And the heating elements didn't go all the way to the foot of the bed. So if I left it on all night by body overheated unless I only had minimal blankets, and so my feet froze, and if I just used it to warm up the bed before I got in all of me was freezing by early in the morning unless I had lots of blankets, which rather defeated the point of having an electric blanket at all.

I don't know how I can make sure my next electric blanket doesn't have these problems, because you can't take all the brands out of their packaging and check the construction in the store, then stuff it back in if you don't like it. And they don't say what wattage each of the settings is.

  • Op, so what blanket did you end up getting?
