Intel Core i5-12400F Processor + Gigabyte B660M DS3H DDR4 Motherboard Bundle $369 Shipped @ BPC Tech

150

While looking for a decent entry level combo deal I came across this which I thought a good price for entry/low mid range gaming.

As compared to shopping express i3 +h610 combo+ 16gb ram for $325 shipped, I think this one with 16gb kit @ $459 would be better overall.

Cheapest combo, based on a quick comparison between different stores.

Thoughts?

  • I still can't stomach how dear alder lake boards are compared to their AMD counterparts.

The M/B is around $120, which is technically not too bad considering you get:

      • 2 x NVMe PCIe Gen 4 x4 m.2 slots
      • 2.5 Gbps LAN
      • 2 x DisplayPorts (4K/60Hz support) though with the CPU, you cannot use those ports

It does lack USB 3.2 gen 2x2 or Thunderbolt 4 port(s). However, if you want 2 x NVMe gen 4 m.2 slots on AMD land, you either need a high end B550 or X570.

      • when you put i like that it isn't terrible

        • However, the other side of the argument is it is probably better to go for a better board with an Intel 12th gen. It does lack a second PCIe x16/x4 slot which does mean you cannot get a USB 3.2 gen 2x2 add-on card or a Thunderbolt 4 card.

          • @netsurfer: depends what need, i went with b660m aorus pro AX because i wanted wireless and to fit into small case , was $189 with ebay coupon, less wireless would have saved $40 ….. scorptec we’re doing lots of gigabyte deals, other stores promote msi, etc …..

It's a decent board. The problem with it is thermals, as the guys at Hardware Unboxed highlight.

It'll be fine for an i5-12400F, but you may end up spending more on cooling to help ensure it has a decent duration of life. And if you want to upgrade to a higher CPU in future, the potential heat issues only increase.

The OC is right, a B660 board with decent thermals, like the MSI PRO B660M-A, will generally set you back ~$50 more than the B550 equivalent. Curious that that is only in Australia and not the US atm.

  • I have built my pc with a 5600x and building my friends pc and wondering if this is a better value alternate. Thoughts anyone?

  • practically the same performance for gaming if youre on AM4 and get the same core counterpart of ryzen 5000

  • I don't think the price difference between this and the i5-12600K is big enough ($50) to justify buying this card. The 12600K is materially better.

    • Difference is more than $50 cause this includes a motherboard. It’s more like $100 to $150.

      • Yep I missed that initially.

Got one 12400f for $209 from Futu Online and a Z690M Aorus Elite for $180 from bidding on eBay Eliteduring EOFY promo. Reckon we should wait for the next 10% off sitewide discount from eBay.

  • Seems like the deal has ended. Is now $389 + Post.
