Bayer 1200w 165mm (6-1/2") Track Saw Combo with 1400mm Track $199 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Sydney Tools

50

I am looking for a track saw for my garage cabinet project. While the usual Ozito track saw mystically disappeared from Bunnings website, I spotted this deal.

The saw itself usually sells for $199, and the 1400mm track is normally $99. There is another Bayer saw with 1400w for $269 without a track. Not sure how much difference there is for 200w. 1400w saw

Anyone has any experiences for this saw?

For a casual DIYer, other brands, like Festool and Makita, are out of my price range. While I can use a straight edge to achieve reasonably good result with a normal circular saw, a track saw of any kind would significantly improve the effieciency.

  • I have the Ozito and it is excellent for the price.

I have looked at a a couple of Bayer items over the years but on each occasion the online reviews have steered me in other directions. The real value of Ozito is if you have a dud/not quite right you take it back with no hassle.

I suspect that like the Ozito you will need to buy a quality fine blade ($30.00 to $50.00?).

    • I do have a few Ozito tools, most of which are plenty good for me. However, the Ozito plunge saw just disappeared altogether.

From my limited experiences, a good blade is a must.

  • I'd be really interested to hear from anyone who's used this one or the Detroit which is also on sale at Total Tools (not in combo but still low price), and how they compare to a Makita or Festool. Though Festool price is just not an option for me either.

Of course the tool itself in this cheaper units has to be lower quality (probably more plastic bits, and cheaper plastic). But can you achieve a straight cut with them? Are there any issues to be aware of? E.g. edge is not straight enough? fit between rail and saw is loose? bendy saw frame goes right or left when in use producing inconsistent edges? problems with chip extraction or chips getting on the way and making the cut fail? other issues?

Or can you achieve a good with it easily?

Diablo saw blade 60-something teeth will go a long way with no or minimal chips with whichever saw you choose

  • I have this Ozito track saw…

It's strange the link doesn't work but I searched for it on the Bunnings website and found it right away.
It's a ripper. Looks pretty much identical to the Bayer.
Excellent clean straight cuts. I love it!

I have a similar…ish track saw from renegade. It's decent for the price compared to the festool and other big brands… With a track saw though, my frustration with getting square repeatable cuts remain. I recently got this from Banggood

It seems pretty solid even when compared to a festool rail square (TSO product I believe) that I own that didn't give me square cuts but cost 3 times the price of this from Banggood. Think I picked this square up for around $70 about a month ago. Optional guide rail for this as well. Check out hooked on wood reviews. Episode 33 https://youtu.be/4-yadqhZshs

Not sure if it’s an option for what you are doing, but I’m pretty happy with my Kreg Accucut.

  • For me $115 delivery fee :-(

  • Cool I might look for a Dewalt track to match my current battery unit.

I've had this tracksaw for some time and for what I use it for it works without an issue. I am as far from a professional as they come. I've cut bench tops, MDF, particle board and plywood all at varying depths.

I've dropped it and damaged the blade guard, bent it back into shape and kept using it.
