  • So it's Bluetooth connection only? No mention of inputs

    • Yamaha Website has all of that info.
I'm looking at grabbing one of these myself.

  • Does it have ARC?

    • Yes

    • Got this model awhile back and it works fine with ARC

Question for those who know AV and Home Theatre. If I had a soundbar like this, as it only has 1 x HDMI input, can I use a HDMI switcher into that one input to connect Firestick TV 4k Max, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch? With the TV connecting to the soundbar via the ARC port?

    Would this work Ok?

I currently have this setup using an amp (multiple HDMI input's) but I'm looking to simplify my setup and downsize.

    • Think you would normally just plug all those devices into the TV and then run the HDMI cable from the soundbar to the tv if your tv has an Arc HDMI port.

So the reason I don't do that currently, and wish to avoid it. Is that I have the TV on the wall and then the cables running through the wall cavity and out the bottom near the amp. It was cleaner to have one HDMI between TV and amp, then all devices running into the amp. Otherwise I have to run multiple HDMI cables through the wall…

I do this with a 5 port switcher through the YAS 207b with no issue for multiple consoles, for the same reasons as you. You have to make sure all components (switch/soundbar/cables) all support the minimum outputs that you need. i.e - probably 120fps/4k for the series X
plus whatever sound formats are required.

@chicky682: Awesome, thanks for validating my thoughts!

  • Any good as a computer speaker?

Get bookshelf speakers instead, e.g. Edifier R1280. These cheaper soundbars lack clarity.

      Yes, using Bluetooth connection.
I use it with my laptop, iPad and iMac without issues.
Good for watching movies and listening to songs.

This soundbar is alright if you can’t keep or don’t want a subwoofer, and it’ll be an upgrade over most TV’s built-in speakers. But the lack of a dedicated sub means it won’t have any real bass (I have compared this to other budget 2.1 systems side-by-side), even a similarly priced entry level 2.1 systems like this Samsung for example will do a lot better in the bass department. Don't just take my word for it, see this comparison, pay attention to the frequency response graphs, there is no low bass at all despite the so called "Built-in subwoofers for Deep bass" claims.

P.S: I have the ATS 2090 (YAS 209), and ATS 1090 is also sold as YAS 109.

Great soundbar got tired of TV speakers, I paid this price in 2020

  • Thanks OP, I grabbed one along with a HDMI switch to acheive a similar setup with the amp I have now as mentioned above. I'll be moving on the amp, sub and speakers. Which I was rarely using given most of our TV watching is after the kids have gone to bed. But it will be nice to have an upgrade over the inbuilt TV speakers that accommodate most of our watching, so best of both worlds in my situation as I will get the benefit from the improved audio in this setup all the time, rather than just some of the time with the amp/speakers/sub. I also like that I can always add a sub at a later date to this soundbar if I feel compelled to do so but the soundbar won't rely on the sub for bass for my normal listening. For my needs, this seems like a really flexible setup.

    • Or you could get a 2.1 system and not worry about an amp and surround speakers. Pretty much all 2.1 systems come with a wireless sub, so you don’t need to run any wires. If you are using a deidicated sub already this could be a significant downgrade.

      • So the plan is to just use the soundbar, no sub. Wife isn't happy with the speakers everywhere - ruins the decor. I just like having the option on putting a sub back into the system with this soundbar at a later date if I feel it's necessary. If I did, I would go for one of the slimline active subs that I can hide somewhere.

  • This or the creative stage v2

  • What do you guys think this or the HW-S60A/XY?

  • Anyone able to place an order recently? I'm getting an error on Amazon - "Sorry, this item can't be delivered to your selected address. Learn more. You may either change the delivery address or delete the item from your order."
called Amazon support and they asked me to use a friend's address in another post code. And the discount is not showing on the checkout page.

    Anybody same experience?

  • Is this the same yamaha yas-109?

    • Yes - identical.
