RM Williams - Broad Price Increase from July 4th

Received this email from RM Williams yesterday - glad I bought my boots last month!

======================

AN UPDATE TO OUR PRICING

In the spirit of full transparency, we’d like to inform you, our loyal community, that a price increase will come into effect across many of our products, including boots, apparel, leather goods and accessories, from July 4th 2022.

This price increase is a result of the rising cost of raw materials such as leather, the cost of our manufacturing, most of which takes place on Australian shores, exchange rate pressures and the rate of inflation.

We have made every effort to shoulder the majority of this burden before making this decision, having not implemented a broad pricing increase for three years.

In doing so, we can continue to ensure the same high quality product that we are renowned for, as well as maintaining the wellbeing and effective operation of our teams, production partners and sources of raw materials.

We’re also employing more Australians than ever before and will continue to grow this number as we honour our commitment to onshore manufacturing.

As always, we’re grateful for your understanding and continued support.

======================

I haven't yet checked the price of some of their other items, but it looks like the Craftsman boots have gone up from $595 to $649. The most recent Iconic deal might have been the last chance to grab a pair at a reasonable price…

Is this increase enough to make the urban cowboys of OzBargain consider an alternative boot instead?

    The value for money proposition was questionable at full RRP on the best of days
    Now it's getting a bit ridiculous, admittedly this is the price you pay for Australian made.

    Great shoes all the same.

    Admittedly an Ozbargainer would only ever buy one for $400 or less.

      Boots that some of us wear for 15 years or more?

      Boots that you can pair with jeans or chinos or a suit and take them anywhere?

      I'd say the value proposition is rather decent.

      • Redback boots are leather, Australian made work boots for about $100.
        I reckon they could put RM out of business in about 5 minutes if they started making an office/formal boot.

      • Ouch, boots worn for 15 years? I can smell them from here!

      Now it's getting a bit ridiculous,

      no it always was ridiculous!

  • they were always overpriced, "Australian made" does not cost that much. but hey, always need that 600 % markup.

    i got a pair on sale, but honestly, i don't think they're worth $400, much less $600. they feel like $300 boots.

    at this point, good year welts are just not worth it here. maybe if you were in the USA where there are numerous manufacturers of quality good year welt boots, at reasonable ish prices (thanks competition). you can import some of them for marginally less than RM williams cost, but shipping + exchange rate is a killer, mainly shipping. though the prices over there can get a bit ridiculous, as with everywhere else, 600% markup is sadly not too uncommon

    • 600% mark up? Does Australia have it's own sweatshops? Is it made of pleather?

      • Does Australia have it's own sweatshops?

        You might be surprised.

  • I thought RMs are expensive, nope. They are actually cheap compared to other shoemakers like Edward Green.

  • There goes my ambitions of getting the $400 picnic set.

  • The most recent Iconic deal might have been the last chance to grab a pair at a reasonable price…

    at least until some ozbargain legend figures out a way to somehow stack the heyiconic $75 off $300 offer with an upsized c/b and sale promo maybe..
