Sony XR75X90J Bravia XR Full Array LED 4K Google TV [2021] $2395 + $150 Gift Card + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Harvey Norman

540

Not to be a corporate shill but this is an absolute bargain and also includes a $150 gift card from Harvey himself if you’re into that. Previously was sold for $2995 everywhere except Costco [$2899.99]. I’ve been eyeing this particular TV for some time and finally pulled the trigger as it’s a great all rounder and the 2022 models don’t look to be much different apart from more local dimming zones.

Great value although is rather price match at JB and stack with a 5% gift card.

The J series are getting run out deals because the K series are about to drop in a couple of months

    • +1

K series is already here, you can get the X90K 65 inch for the same price as this at JBHIFI at the moment, it’s taking all of my strength to not jump on it

      • +1

        It's 75" vs 65"

      • Follow your heart. You know deep down you have to go ahead with it. Lol
I can't resist, buying one today.

      • +5

Don't get the K for more money and less inches. From rtings.com comparison tool:

"The Sony X90K is the successor to the Sony X90J, and it's not worth the upgrade if you already have the X90J or if you're deciding between the two TVs. The main difference is that the X90J has a better local dimming feature, resulting in less blooming around bright objects, meaning the overall picture quality is better on the X90J. However, if you're a gamer, the X90K is the better choice and has a wider 1080p VRR range."

        • +1

I game in 4k so i guess the X90J is the better choice.

    • +13

I'd rather go JbHiFi even if i have to pay $50 for delivery.

      • +2

I don’t know if it’s rational or irrational but I fkn hate HN and do my absolute best to not buy from there.

    • Does JB usually price match gift card offer? What what's the 5% gift card you're referring to?

      • +1

You can get 5% gift card off if you’re insured via AAMI, GIO or suncorp from their app

      • +3

If it's a gift card offer they usually just take it off the tv instead

        • +3

Have anyone successfully asked JB to take the gift card off the price to match HN?

          • +4

@ntt: I just successfully asked JB to "match" Binglee (2396 + 10% GC), but the way they structure it is "creative":

            Xr75x90J 2000
            Extra care. 200

            Total 2200 (plus 59 delivery)

They wouldn't do the deal without the extra warranty.

  • +1

This was nearly $4K just over a year ago as the new 90K model.

  • holy hell that's a great price - I wish I had funds :D

  • +4

I got $2204 from Bing Lee eBay with TOPITUP

  • +5

Overall, Rtings comes to the conclusion that the Sony Bravia X90K is a slightly inferior TV compared to last year's model the X90J

Typical, especially for supply chain broken era and from Sony

    • Always rolling the dice with a Sorny

  • With TV, do we deal with the retailer or Sony for warranty claim?

    • +2

      Can deal with either

  • If you pay via latitude card, you will receive additional 200$ gift card.

  • Can you turn the TV on off with Google assistant.

    • +1

      Yes you can.

    • Yeah you just mash your Google phone against the remote control

  • Great deal on a good telly

  • Is Sony Google TV OS better than LG Web OS ?

Is the Sony Remote better than the LG C1 remote ?

    • +1

The OS might not be as easy to use but has a lot more apps, and has additional compatibility with Google services, Google Assistant and screen mirroring. The J series remote is not as simple as the K series, but I like the extra shortcuts.

    • +2

Sonys google tv OS 100times better the LG Web crap limited apps

Is Sony Google TV OS better than LG Web OS ?

Ask yourself, do you think Google better at software development than LG and that question will answer itself.

    • I bought this TV a few months ago on sale to upgrade from my old LG.
Personally, I find Google OS to be much better than LG Web OS. Its very responsive and easy to use. Lots of app support, things are logically laid out and it even displays the Rotten Tomatoes rating for shows, at least when browsing from the home screen.
The Sony remote is not bad, but I miss the LG point and click wand type function.

      • How do you find the X90J overall ? Are there any picture issues or wi-fi / software glitches ?

I also read that when you setup the TV is you select Basic TV (vs Google TV) then it does not show any of the Ads / Suggestions. Did you find this to be true?

  • Any thoughts on this or the c2 65 inch ? Wondering if it's worth loosing the 10inches for the better tv.

    • Sony is brighter in SDR and across the entire panel in HDR, so would be better for average daylight-lit rooms. That's about it.

      • Would be mainly watching tv at night for 80% of the time. Feel like the c2 is the no-brainer but shame the 77 inch jumps so much in price

        • In that case go for the C2. It's actually $400 more for 10" less, not accounting for GC.

          • @Techie4066: Thanks techie, do you agree with c2 not actually being better then the c1?

            • @pizzapock3t: C2 is definitely better for movies and TV due to higher brightness and colour accuracy out of the box. They seem to have similar pricing anyway.

    • Buy the OLED

  • How would this go in a room where 3 walls are glass?
Light/reflections during the day is a big problem.

    • +1

Not great. Go for the 65" X95J for the same price. A lot brighter.

      • Unfortunately

The Sony X95J we bought has excellent reflection handling. The anti-reflective coating on the 75 inch model disperses bright lights across the screen, significantly reducing their intensity but creating a rainbow pattern that can be distracting in some cases. The 85 inch model has the same reflective coating, so we expect it to perform about the same, but the 65 inch model doesn't, so we expect it to have worse reflection handling.

        https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x95j

The Sony X90CJ has decent reflection handling. Like the Sony X900H, it struggles with direct reflections, but it's worse here because the direct reflections are even more prominent and distracting. It's best to avoid placing it opposite a window or bright lights.

        • Oh damn, you're right. Such a bad decision.

          • @Techie4066: I mostly use that room at night, but would be good to get some more use during the day.

  • Will this work with commbank $300 cash back offer when spending $1500 Thanks

      What cba offer??

      • Low fee credit card offer

I really wanted an OLED, but not sure I can justify the price yet…are these LEDs even a shadow of the OLED?

    • If you enjoy bright blooming colours and VCD blacks then get a LED

      • Not really, so I guess I'll keep saving.

    • Oled has never been cheaper. Not sure how much cheaper you need the best to be..

      • OLED tech will only get cheaper though

        • same with any tech… whats the point?

          • @PuntyBrah: If not in a rush, no harm in waiting for OLED to come down further in price. I think pricing on these will be even more competitive by end of year

  • Is this running Android 12?

    • I meant 11.

sigh Ozbargain is making me poor. Couldn't resist after missing out on the Sony Education store deal, bought! Thanks OP.

    • +1

Same here ozbargain making me poor. Missed out on the education deal so pulled the trigger today. The recoil from the trigger is painful but should heal over time with Sony photons emitting from the panel.

  • +4

Price matched on the Sony Store & got it for $2245 delivered.
    -2% Cash Rewards = $2,200.

  • I can't decide between this or the a80j 55" for $1836
Mainly for tv/movies and occasional gaming. What are your thoughts?

  • +2

Ffs. I didn't realise this ended yesterday. Hooked up the trailer and went to HN to grab one this morning. $2995. They would barely budge. I'll keep waiting.

    • +2

Shit man that sucks, you even hooked up the trailer to save on delivery. That's true ozbargain commitment.

The $150 gift cards are really stupid. Can't use it online or even check the balance online.
You get a code on the TV receipt that can only be used in store.
Has an expiry of 3 years which is good but pretty annoying have to go in store to use it. Just make it difficult so you don't end up using it or loose it.

    • The receipt that has the code, was that a physical receipt or emailed? I didn't get a physical receipt, and I was emailed a tax invoice but I don't see a code on it.

      • +1

I went into the Harvey Norman store to purchase and i paid cash.
I was given a receipt-tax invoice. On that receipt is the gift voucher number and says $150.
I rang the guy who sold it to me because the Gift voucher code came up as invalid when i checked the balance online. He said its a weird code that can only be used in store.

I just checked the tax invoice emailed to me and i see the gift voucher $150 but no code. I'm assuming the gift voucher is tied to the invoice number.

You should call the store tomorrow and ask. Report back here what happens as this will help other people in the same situation.
Feel free to ask any questions.

        • +1

Yep I'll call Harvey Norman tomorrow and will report back. Thanks for the reply!

  • +1

I called Harvey Norman, apparently the code for the voucher was meant to be given to me in person but it wasn't. And I have to go into the store to pick it up (they refused to mail it). What a nuisance.

Here's an unrelated question: at the bottom of the TV, over the "Sony" logo and a few centimetres either side of it, there appears to be some sort of clear plastic covering it. Sort of like the protective plastic you get on a new device, only this plastic doesn't seem to peal off easily. Is anyone else's TV llike this, or knows whether that's meant to be there or if it's safe to pry off?

    • +1

I haven't peeled my plastic off the edges because I'm moving in 8 weeks and have to repack it.

I just found the power button directly behind the Sony logo on the bottom. I thought it was a bit weird not having a power button on the TV itself. Doesn't matter anyway because i use hey Google voice command to turn it on and off.

Wow that was lucky you called them about the gift voucher. I think it's bloody ridiculous that it's not a normal gift card voucher.

    • +1

It wasn't a very good experience buying the TV from Harvey Norman. Don't think I'll shop there again after using my $150 gift voucher.
TV seems to be perfect though with No black light bleeding or dead pixels. Very happy with the Sony TV.
