[VIC] Navel Oranges $0.29/kg @ No. 1 Food Store Dallas

600

Inflation? What inflation? This store has been my usual go to for produce for the past couple of years, and have always found them to be one of the cheapest. Came across oranges for $0.29/kg. Probably trying to clear out stock.

They look pretty average quality IMHO so that may explain the price.

    Perfect for juicing.

    • +2

I can see quite a few of them with green stems, looks freshly cut off the tree not long ago. But I can also see some not-so-good ones

      • +2

Good thing they're not prepacked or prebagged then.

    • +1

Well the government does for the lowest bid/quality, so you wouldn't expect the Navy to buy the best oranges.

      • +3

If its good enough for the navy then it's good enough for the village people.

I'm confused as to why it says "Australian Navel Oranges" but also says "product of America" (or at least I think it says America)

    ???

    • Can you even say product of America? It's not very origin specific.

    • +2

Does that actually make sense though? I did a quick look and although Australia and USA counter-export navel oranges in each others off-season, the Australian season is supposed to be Jun-Aug.

    • That’s the variety, I guess it’s been shipped over which is insane

      • +1

i guess it's no different to Australian Wagyu.

    Uh Dallas:)

Make sure you get a kebab up the road from Katik down Barry road.

    • On the other side of Barry Road, there is Maxi Kebab, very good.

    • And stay away from the grassy knoll.

    Dallas, Texas? WTF?

    • Is it U.S.?

    • Time to learn your local suburbs mate!

  • Well, I paid 10 times that price at Woolies just the other day! But then the cost of petrol to drive out there would kill this deal!

    • +1

And the additional cost of a personal security guard would have killed the deal for sure.

      • +3

Nah Dallas is good these days.
Your thinking of Brighton where Bec Judd is living.

        • That's it. I'm always getting the two mixed up. I would like to retract my previous statement.

  • I’d say they are quite sour this year aren’t they? We’ve tried a few times too sour for the family where we all prefer sweeter oranges.

    • Yeah the main supermarkets oranges are awful at the moment. I get sweetmax at an independant and they are still sweet. Best oranges I ever had where in Spain where they individually wrap them in paper. Loved the Mesa Naranja. No or less sprays there too.

It's called fruit and veg, not "produce"… this is OZbargain, not YANKbargain.

    • We need to yeet that kind of language into the trashcan.

  • Hmm a bargain or my life what is more important…

  • +2

The real bargain is your neighbours trees, because they won’t be eating them all. We play spot the lemons as well at vacant houses

It is a cheap store but then again, I would say most people would pay a bit more for better quality. I tend to get some stuff from there when really cheap but the I go for 15 minute drive up for the more quality products that are just a tad more costly

  • They look somewhat ordinary but top tucker for a Broady banquet

  • Are oranges are named oranges because oranges are orange, or is orange is named orange because oranges are orange?

    Asking for a friend.

    • Nothing rhymes with orange. That's why.

    • Thanks. Just bought gold status from Thai airways. Now will book my tickets for QLD from the travel credit to get these oranges. Superb deal

  • How does this shop compare with Pascoe Vale Road Market in Glenroy? I will try this shop next week.
