Do You Only Buy Stuff You Actually Need?

I've always been curious about this question.

With so many deals being posted, do you guys/gals/non binary pals buy the stuff posted on here because you actually need it or do you buy because it's a bargain?

I know personally that I've bought stuff I don't need in the past and then end up justifying the purchase later but I've been stopping that behaviour lately.

Depends if it's a bargain or just a good price.

I tried to buy the Bunnings DJI Drone because it was a steal and because I had casually been looking for a drone.
Recently I bought the crappy drumkit from Auspost and regretted buying it 30 mins later when I realized I would never use it and just wasted $50.

    Buy now think later

Need is a very strong word. You only need a few basic things. Want on the other hand… Of course as far as this site goes I only buy things I was considering anyway. I think I could almost count on one hand the number of deals published here that I've bought but I think I'm in the definite minority. The few I have purchased however have all been things I've actively been considering and have been large discounts.

buy first dont think (otherwise you may regret)

      • I actually regret not buying the Samson Meteor mic that got posted a couple of days ago. The one time I don't follow Buy now think later I regret it haha.

Do You Only Buy Stuff You Actually think you'll Need (one day)?

    Yes, the OzB way.

The OzB stockpile: udemy, ebooks, free PC games, eneloops… They'll be useful one day, I just know it.

Depends. I might hoard stuff if I know it's good value and will use later.

    • Right?
Sometimes you don't know you need something UNTIL you buy it.

My room full of video games says otherwise.

I'm missing good deals on beers. Remember little creatures pale ale a carton for a price of sixpack or same with cascade beer back in 2015 when they even shipped it from Melbourne I believe at loss.

I do buy more than I suppose I need now. The question is how much does one have to buy for the future?

The question I have always wanted to find the answer to is - would you actually save more money by not looking at OzBargain at all.

    • +2

Everyone knows that the answer to this is yes.

I either buy because I need it or because I want it.

The worst bargain is buying what you neither need or want.

The deal is usually the trigger to get the thing I'd been thinking about. Generally not a 'need'. If it's something necessary, I'll look for the best deal at the time but won't wait for a sale, unless it's of a value of over about $1000.

  • It's very interesting seeing the poll results! Thanks for everyone that participated!

  • where's the option for 'I buy because I want it at the bargain price"?

it's not just the bargain, it's the, I want part too.

    • That's a given tho which is why I didn't add that part 😂

You need another option - I buy so I can resell it for the normal or higher price. These people are why we can’t have nice things.
