  • Got a Sony HT-RT3 from this deal a few years back and it’s been awesome for the price. They were around $300 new back then, so used should be within you price range if you can find one. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/395325

  • sonos gen 2 and treating me very well. c2 + this.

    • Without the sub?

    • When I bought Sonos Beam, I was a bit underwhelmed. But after adding the sub, the sound got a lot better.

      • the 1k sub though

  • +1

IMHO would set a minimum of Dolby Atmos support at that budget.

It's apples and oranges comparing one with Dolby Atmos against one just built to be a slight 2.1 improvement over the TV's output.

    • 3.1 vs 2.1? Im seeing a lot more 2.1s 2nd hand.

  • I have YAS-109, seems pretty good.

  • -2

Sound bars are ugly, and there is not usually an appropriate place to put them. Think about getting a beautiful, full-sized wooden TV cabinet, putting in an amplifier in the cabinet, and large floor speakers either side of the cabinet. Can be very cheap second hand.

Then you can put beautiful plants on the floor speakers, either side of your TV.

TVs look horrible sitting there by themselves. Even worse with a sound bar under them. An amplifier and large floor speakers will give you better sound than a cheap sound bar.

    • I will say I did state no off topic but I like your pitch.

      I'd be interested but:
      1) Misso doesnt want cords
      2) Lounge is pushed up against the wall already and limited space to left and right to put the extra speakers.
      3) We are planning to move out of this rental possibly into a bigger place, then I will invest.

Im an audio head and and an audio engineer for work. I understand the sound difference / trade offs between a full system vs a sound bar. However a soundbar is what we want for our current purposes.
