Apple PSOD/Flexgate solution

Got myself a 2018 MacBook Pro 4 years ago
Custom built and what an average quality device this turned out to be.

A few days ago it developed pink lines on the screen.
Google says this is a common af problem

Booked into apple. That basically said it’s 1.2k to fix. And didn’t want to know any more about it

Spoke to apple care they didn’t care

Short of spending 1.2k
Has anyone found any solutions to fix this issue ?

I would call up and try arguing that Macbook Pro is a high-end laptop and so they need to replace it under statutory warranty.

A high-end laptop should last eight years, while a high-end smartphone should last six years. A high-quality oven can last up to 20 years.

    • Thanks for this contacted them they ignored and kept saying it’s covered by 3 years and I’m a year out ..

      • Think you need to push harder. I've claimed an iphone a year out of warranty by claiming statutory warranty.

Did you explain to the rep what a statutory warranty is?

        • It got escalated
They said they will review and get back to me by the end of the week

They said in my model it’s not affected by the recall because they used a longer cable

They are trying to imply that dust and crap got in it which has pinched the cable

          • @letmethefuqin: It's a premium laptop, dust particles accumulated through regular use shouldn't cause it to become unusable. I'd push harder with statutory warranty. If that fails contact a third party repair specialist (make sure you go with one that is experienced in macbook repair), repair cost will likely be much cheaper.

            • @Croc2: Got a response back from apple and they told me no 4 years is fine for the life span on the laptop

              • @letmethefuqin: yeah of course they would say that 😂 Have you got a quote for a repair from a 3rd party? Should only be a few hundred dollars. Apple repairs are notorious for being overpriced and wasteful (replacing components that can easily be repaired). Short of that you could also attempt the repair yourself (only if you're comfortable doing it though!).

  • Also check if the battery has swelled. They will replace the screen/device if it has their known battery fault

  • I have bad news for you. Mine recently did the same thing, pink line down the middle, two months later, the screen completely black out. Cheapest solution is to connect it to an external monitor. Don't spend $1k fixing it, you can get a new MacBook Air for not much more.

  • If anyone has any success let me know - had the same issue at the start of the year. Apple Store palmed me off with an ACCC pamphlet and when I complained to Apple they 'reviewed' and I had no luck either.

It is such a joke that they will replace the older 2016 model with the same part and issue but not the 2017 and that a faulty $5 cable needs a $1000 fix due to dodgy design flaws.

A guy on Whirlpool is fighting it and taking them to a second NCAT hearing about it - I fully support him! Maybe make contact as he is presenting all the evidence/statements he can.
