The question is whether it's worth it now. Or look to future proof with an ATX3 compliant supply.

Thinking I'll wait to better feed a 4080/4090 later this year.

    • It's the PCI-E 5.0 Power Excursion/Spike/transient certification I'm most concerned about (i.e. PSU supporting GPU pulling 2-3x its rated Power on the 12VHPWR connector for up to 100 Microseconds) avoiding some of the issues found for 3080/3090 now

Very well reviewed by Aris (4 stars is almost as good as it gets from him, anything over 3 is great, and one of the listed "Cons" is high price, which isn't applicable to this sale): https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/thermaltake-toughpower-…

  • What happens if the actual load of the PC is say 100W and the power supply is a gold one say 650W. Does it still deliver a high efficiency - considering the best efficiency is at around 50% of the PSU power rating? Just wanted to know what others think.

  • Really? Interesting, people always told me bad things about thermaltake PSUs so i stopped by them.

Bought the 850 as a PSU for a second machine I just decommissioned but want to rebuild and keep or give to a family member. With a $15 promo discount I had floating around on Amazon, came to $104, which is an astoundingly good price for a high quality unit. Great review by Aris on Tom's as well (see TimR31 above).

I only just bought it, probably 10 minutes ago. Why is it marked as "expired"?

Anyhow, thanks OzBargain…again. And OP for the head's up.

  • Thanks! Bought ARGB 850W for $129 using the 14% cashback offer.
