  • Is this really a bargain? Or just normal price?

Did you even read the first quote??? Pre-order and get a free pair of "Beats™ Solo™ headphones designed by Dr Dre valued at $279"…..

  • I believe that it's only for the first 300 people who pre-order though.

    • Well that's interesting because they made no mention of it on Facebook where they put the link up nor on the pre-order page!

      • It's stated here. Can't find any mention of 300 only on the actual pre-order page so I guess you could always go to Fair Trading if they don't give you the headphones.

        http://www.telstra.com.au/abouttelstra/media-centre/announce…

        • The Telstra 24x7 reps have clarified this with their legal team and anyone who pre-orders before the given date are getting them. They have also edited their media release to remove the reference to 300 only available….

Dont forget the One XL is the 4G version with the faster Dual Core processor and has better battery life than the Quad Core One X being sold by Vodafone.

    • -1

but but its only dual core as opposed to quad core! and no removable batteries , no removable storage option, BOO!.
      otherwise HTCs are awesome…

      • The dualcore snapdragon has received slightly better results than the quadcore cpu of htc one x at comparison tests. Saw it on a few engadget-like websites.

      • +4

I wouldn't turn the dual-core down so quickly though. From what I have been reading so far, the dual-core (SnapDragon S4 Krait) here is designed with the new architect. And depends on what benchmark software you are using, this S4 dual-core processor came out on top in many benchmark contests. From many aspects, The dual-core is certainly not necessarily a inferior processor comparing to the Quad Core Tegra 3.

Also, at the moment, way too little apps are optimised for quad core for you to be hype about. Of course, it can potentially include the benchmark software themselves, hence the not-so-super benchmark result for the quad-core…

Oh, and according to the review, S4 scores a considerably better battery life too….for many, it's already a winner.

        Here are some comparison…

        http://www.androidcentral.com/why-my-dual-core-s4-better-you…

      • The dual core is superior in performance, battery, cellular reception to the quad core one x, the quad core only benefits in gpu. which is not so important since the games can all be run on the adreno225.
The architecture used in the krait is a15 architecture, while the quad core uses a9 architecture and is poorly optimised. The One XL is the superior phone.

  • So the phone on a $49 plan is $16 per month, total $65 - that's the small plan. (other phones start at $10 extra = $59 per month)

    What colours are available?

    • -1

      No it's $59 + 6 = $65/month…. The small plan is only $49 if you BYO…

      • Oh, ok. I read it as $49 with no phone and from $59 with a phone, meaning at least $10 per month for a phone. Either way you read it it is $16 for this phone on top of the base plan.

      • PVA is actually right. its a 49 cap.
The $10 extra is MRO repayments to make it look like a 59 cap. but on topof that you pay an extra $6 which makes it $65.
You can get a galaxy nexus on a $49 plan from telstra.

No the Freedom 49 and 59 plans are different. The 49 plan doesn't include unlimited SMS.

        • Which is a link to "Freedom Connect BYO" plans.

You can get a galaxy nexus on a $49 plan from telstra.

Last I checked if you are getting a Nexus you aren't bringing your own phone and thus you will be on the "Freedom Connect" plan. Thus the plans I linked to are correct.

In anycase the total cost for the phone HTC One XL is from $65/month. Who really cares what the plan and MRO structure is, because you can't get the phone elsewhere due to it being Telstra exclusive and even if you could then you are still stuck with Telstra if you want LTE coverage. Even looking at it from a Freedom Connect BYO to Freedom Connect perspective the $16/month cost that equates to less than $400 (or $480 if going on Freedom Connect 79)which is a good price for the phone especially with free headphones chucked in.

  • Deal seems to be over? The page no longer appears to take pre-orders and details about the free headphones is no longer there.

The media announcement page posted by lolcoaster above is still there stating the headphones offer for online preorder though

    • Yup just checked Telstra's FB page and the deal is closed due to selling more than expected…

Can't believe this didn't get more votes - I thought it was a great deal!
Was going to post it myself but Stewy beat me to it, haha.

    • +1

Yeah I would have thought it would've gotten a better reception on here but oh well. SGS3 and it's lack of 4G at present is a dissappointment and makes me glad I grabbed this!

      • +2

Doesn't matter us lucky few got to get it with the cool headset. To be honest i would have been happy with just the phone at that price, but the headphones was the icing on the cake.

  • kicking myself that I missed this, on the website the One XL is only available at a $79 cap?
reckon there is any chance of another deal with free Dre Beats Solo?

    • Thats the cheapest plan it's free on, it will be on the $59 Freedom Cap aswell but you'll have to pay extra for it ($6 extra during the pre-order phase).

As for seeing the Beats again, I doubt they will be back…
