  • Thanks, just ordered via S&S
$39 is the normal price from Costco, but 10% off S&S makes it better value!

    • Thx mate. Good to know about costco. We normally get from Amazon whenever on promotion, & cashback, usually around $55. So far it does the job:-)

      • The reviews for the new bags look terrible. Did you both find them ok?

  • +2

Based on the reviews, the new material is terrible and doesn't do its job to contain odour.

    • Yeah, I've read a lot of the reviews and am concerned. We somehow managed to snag a crazy deal back in late 2020 (18 refills for ~$78 delivered from Amazon UK) and we still have some of the refills left. After reading about the changes to the material, I'm seriously considering switching over to the bulk refills where you buy one crazy long roll/bag that you just stuff inside an empty cartridge. Only trouble is, you kind of want to only buy a little just to try it out and see if it works, but it's a lot cheaper to buy one crazy long roll.

      Something like this:

MELLOA Universal Nappy Bin Liner refill

I'm sure there are a few companies that do this. Which ones are good, who knows.

      • I currently use the Melloa refills, they work great and hold the smell in as much as the original ones.
Get the ones with the scent they work a little bit better and don't forget to get the cardboard thing.

        • Thanks for your feedback. :)

May go for the big roll straight off the bat.

        • How do you tell which of the Melloa refills are scented and which ones aren't? I can only see 3 different colours and nothing about scent.

I use council bags. Or scented dog poo bags. Or get refill rolls.

My recommendation is to buy these once so you have the cassettes and then buy DIY refills from ebay.

Perhaps not quite as good, but heaps cheaper and less wasteful.

      https://qlemon.com.au/
Yeah, we buy rolls from here and refill ourselves. Probably saved a heap by now

      • Do these ones actually contain odours? I've bought other off brand refills before that claim to contain odours but they actually dont.

        • I didn't notice any difference to the original Tommee ones yet, at least. Slightly stronger lemon scenting, but not unpleasantly so.

My recommendation is don't use this product at all.

Use two of the small nappy bags that they sell in packs of 400ish at big w. Then put it in the bin next morning.

It'll save you 99%. It'll also dump much less plastic in the environment

    • +1

Do they stop the smell? We're pretty lazy with regards to taking the bin outside so we like using the tommee tippee bin. We save plastic by unwinding all the twists out just before cutting and tying up the bag before we take it to the bin outside. A bit gross maybe, but we save a lot of money, plastic. We don't think the smell is too bad considering how long we tend to leave it there. This is with the old material though.

      • Honestly, you've got to get better at it! I understand not going out in the middle of the night in winter especially if the child needs settling… But I've been there and tried all options. It really is a case of self disciplining. Stick at it (during daytime at least) and when you've turned the corner you'll be wondering why you ever did it any other way

        • Just asked my wife about the little bags. She prefers to do it the way we are doing it. Go figure…

          • @ozbs25: She can do it her way. Don't want to upset her thats totally not worth it. Go buy some yourself and give it a go. Lead by example, it might stick

    • 100% this.

I can't believe how much money I wasted pursuing this stupid bin. Yeah its convenient but the refills are stupidly expensive. Between 2 kids I was going through a cassette a week.

  • How long does one refill last? How many changes does it hold roughly?

    • +1

The refill cartridge holds up to 180 nappies so if you make around 10 changes a day you'll get about 18 days out of each cartridge.
