Sony WH1000XM5B Premium Noise Cancelling Headphones $466.65 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ The Good Guys

570
SAVEBIG

Full Price is $549 before discounts.

Ok, not hard but some steps involved.

Available in white or black, none in the store near me so i had to get delivery for $8.

Buy a $450 Good Guys GC from the Shopback store app on your phone and get 3% cashback - $13.50

Use code SAVEBIG (all in caps) on the good guys website to get $82.35 off the price

Current Shopback cashback is 6% - $27.99

Taking all discounts into account you end up at $425.15 in store pickup or $433 delivered.

The one snag in the whole exercise is that shopback says you can only use codes listed on their website and SAVEBIG is not listed, however, they are advertising the current 10 - 20% off promotion at The Good Guys and this discount is only available by entering the SAVEBIG code, no reductions in price are available on any items unless you enter the code. So either Shopback is being disingenuous or they haven't updated the site to include the code yet.

Haven't received a confirmation of the 6% Shopback cashback yet but will advise when i have (sometime takes a few hours).

  • Not sure if purchases where you use a gift card will result in the 6% SB cashback.

If not its still the best price i can see to date but less attractive.

450 for anc headphones are too expensive for me.

    • Email from ShopBack this morning confirming 6% cash back tracked at $30.

I wrote this on the other XM5 post.

The XM5 earcups are noticeably shallower than the XM3/XM4, which means less room for ears and higher perceived ANC cabin pressure.
If you are sensitive to these things XM3/XM4 might be better.

Build quality seems to be better on XM5. Also microphone quality is greatly improved on XM5 according to a video review, it sounds very clear and not the garbled mess the XM3/XM4 microphone sounded like.

    • The XM5 earcups are noticeably shallower than the XM3/XM4

luckily i didn't go for the XM5's when i returned the XM4's due to the shallow earcups, basically on ear if there shallower.

    • +1

Yeah biggest difference I've noticed in the xm5 to xm4 back to back was xm5 have a far more natural and clear sounding transparency mode which would likely be down to the better microphones.

Xm4 ANC can be better in some low level situations as the adaptive ANC on the 5s can take a while to ramp up when required.

      • "the adaptive ANC on the 5s can take a while to ramp up when required."

I have not looked deep enough into the XM5's to know that was a feature. Can't you turn the "adaptive" function off in the App? And just set it to be on Max ANC all the time?

        • Not that I can see. I've had a bit of a dig around in the app and unlike the 4s it seems you can only turn it on or off and the adaptive nature selects the level of ANC automatically. It's something that could definitely be pushed in a driver update and will likely be on the to do list as it's not an uncommon complaint on forums.

          • @JF: Yeah that makes sense. They should definitely add the ability to switch adaptive off in the App. Maybe in the next update. They update phone App's pretty regularly in my experience.

      • Decided to purely not get XM5 due to the earcups.
I fly alot so wear them whilst sleeping, Generally even large ear cups arent the best when your ear is pressing on a pillow and then the earcups like in your ear.
Figured XM5 would be way to extreme.

Many reviews failed to mention the shallower earcups, but this is very important.

I bought XM5 with the amex $75 offer, but then found the shallower earcups makes very difficult for me to use this for longer session, I ended up selling it and bought Bose QC45, yes sony packs more tech in XM series, but Bose's deeper earcups makes big differerce for me in terms of comfort.

      • +1

Yeah it's definitely an important thing to mention when it comes to headphones.

      • +1

Yep and when they say they can use it hours on end makes me wonder if they even have ears.

      • I have the Bose QC25 but after I think 4-5 years I feel if I use it more then one hour now around my ears start to hurt. How you find the QC45 for heavy usage e.g. 4-8 hours at a time? Do they have one of the deepest ear cups?

        • I have QC25, 35 and now 45, FYI QC25 and QC35's earcups pads are interchangable, I compared 35 and 45 side by side, I don't see noticable difference in terms of earcups depth, feel the same too, I don't have issue to wear it the whole morning or afternoon, but usually take a break anyway.

          • @BrianGriffin: Thanks for the info! I may buy original QC25 earcup pads cause I bought the copies and i dont think the cushion is enough

    In b4 these or nc700?

The XM5 doesn't fold into itself the same way as the XM5. Makes it more cumbersome.

    $386 on GGC quote

    • Can't find it on the web? weird…

      • +1

if you can't find it on the TGGC store but can on the regular TGG, you can email them with the product SKU and they'll give you a quote.

        • Sounds good, How long it will take? Should I just call them up?

          • @JamieHUANG: depends on your luck, usually 1 business day?
just contact dedicated agent, yes you can call them if you are in a rush of getting it.

      • Same

Tried searching WH-1000XM5 with and without dash, Sony wh, Sony earphones, Sony m5 etc nothing

    • I called them about this quote, said they couldn’t get this price but did $415 and I had a $20 voucher. It was good enough for me to pull the trigger. Thanks once again for sharing the quote.

      • The general gg line

        • 1300 942 765

    • Can you order one for me if you are in Melbourne?

    • oh damn what thats so good

    • I got the quote but how do I use it

  • +3

The price history of the XM3 and XM4 suggests that RRP of this will start off sky high but then fall a fair bit well within a year. Fingers crossed for that.

    • +1

Yep, I remember when the XM went down to around $450, everyone was buying it. Then it was pushing $300.

  • +1

Wonder how these will compare to the new Sony Inzone H9 for Ps5 & Mobile…both similar pricing. I just ordered a pair of H9 which will be released in 2 weeks or so.

    • +1

I believe that h9 is a 2.4g version of xm4 because of the 40mm sound unit and mics. Should be the same but weaker noise cancelling because of the fewer mics?

    • +1

It would a gaming version of xm4, in terms of gaming I’d go with that

Xm5 will be a better NC headphone for sure

  • +1

I called The Good Guys sales line 1300 942 765 and they did them for $415 for me about an hour ago…
I added a $20 concierge voucher I just got sent taking them to $395.

    • Is that for any customer or only those with access to TGGC?

      • +1

Yep, i'm curious too as most dont have access to commercial. Please confirm MrFizz

      • looks to be the number at the top of TGG website. TGGC is a different number.

    • This is just the regular number for their sales team, nothing to do with commercial.

      • So what do you do, it’s not a price match so do you just ask for their best price? If that’s what everyone is doing and common knowledge then why didn’t someone post it as a deal in the past?

        • Price matches and negotiated deals do not count as deals you can post on OzB

          • +1

@MrFizz: Thanks for replying, wasnt aware of that. Good to know.

  • +2

If you can wait few months should be around $300

    • +2

Maybe. With this model, it is not replacing the XM4. Both will remain on sale.

This would be roughly equivalent to the Bose NC700 with the QC45 being the more standard model. NC700 prices may serve as a rough price guide for this in the future.

  • Shopback team confirmed
Savebig Not listed currently as a valid code with us, so safe bet that it's not valid for cashback at the mo.

    • Then buy gift card from Shopback for 3% and use cashrewards for 4% instead

  • It's saying page not found, is it out of stock?

  • Page not found

  • For those who find the earcups too shallow, would it help to switch to a 3rd party ear cushion that's thicker/deeper and bigger?

Will probably mess with the sound signature, ANC and sensors though (the one that detects headphones being taken off)

  • +1

    Cashback tracked, $29.95 with shipping.
Just got a call from TGG saying they dont have stock, I can wait or cancel the order. They are expecting stock on 2/8

  • Anyone please got any knowledge of deals going on xm-5?

    • If you have access to good guys commercial you can ask for quote and get it for $389

      • Yeah that's such a killer deal I'd buy two at that price if I did have access…

    • Hey mate I've just DM'd you

  • Anyone who ordered these got them yet? i've been waiting 3 weeks for mine and have tried contacting The Good Guys for an ETA they have been unabkle to provide me one. Pretty fustrating. There was no indication they were oit of stock when i made the order.

    • Mine just arrived this week. I think they were OOS and had to wait for stock to arrive. Most likely first in best dressed as far as sending orders out so maybe just give it a week or 2.

  • hey guys does anyone have access to TGGC or JBC? Please help me buy XM5. Thanks
