there is no way I'm paying $99 for an Ubisoft game.

I mean, I really liked the first game, so was happy to get this. Also got it half price thanks to DX Collectable's birthday promotion from a while back.

Agreed, normally launch price is the best price for a long time on Nintendo games, but for Ubisoft I can wait a few months to get it for $30.

      • See my other comment. Took 6 months for the regular to come down, and the gold edition didn't really get lower than $70ish (I think….)

        • DLC from memory also took a decent amount of time to get cheaper for the original release for those that got the standard edition.

Does mean you can wait and assess if the game and/or DLC are worth it but.

          • @Smigit: Yep. Which is always the case for pre-orders. Just depends if you want to play it day one or not.

        • Before it went out of print, I'm pretty sure the Gold version popped up quite often for around $40.

By that point it was around 2~3 years after the game was initially released, though.

    • You'll be soft to buy it at this price.

Will be $29 in no time

    • History says it took 6 months for the regular version of the first game to drop to $29. Struggling to find the data on the Gold Edition (equivalent with the season pass) and seems it didn't drop below $70ish.

      • You could get lucky with the first game if you bought pre-owned gold editions that still had the code. They're never priced as if the DLC is included. I know that's more the exception rather than the rule, but it's not impossible.

      • +1

Lowest ever for the Gold Edition was $29 from Amazon, with a few ~$39 sales in between.

  • What does gold mean

    • It means you pay more money for it

I really loved the original game. A fun time, and a bit challenging in the later stages (ice levels hurt me).

Kinda reluctant to pay $99 for pre-order on a game that may or may not make it's way up the backlog list, but I did very much enjoy the first game and ended up buying the DLC and extras. Probably paid more than buying Gold from the get go. Played the game a few times over….

    hmm….. okay… preorder completed.

I think I just got to see the gears in your head turning :) I know pushing the bottom line is what OzBargain is about, but I'm happy to put money towards pre-orders on games and developers I want to support. I think strong pre-orders help devs out - so I'm basically just saying "Please make more games like this". And I think this is the best pre-order price going around right now.

Disagree with preorder helping dev sentiment.

Success of a game is determined by day 1 sales and total sales. Dev don't see preorder money and large preorders don't help gaming industry as a whole. All it does is publishers forcing developers to release something unfinished to cash in the money. See no man sky, cyberpunk 2077.

Not saying you shouldn't preorder, you do you, but it doesn't help the dev out. Helping the dev would be recommending a released game in a very good state to others to help total sales numbers

regular version for $69 and DLC later on heavy discount will be my preference here

    • Makes sense. DLC just has to be $30 to break even! Not sure what it'll cost, but not crazy to think $30 is the right ball park (on sale maybe?). Can you remember what the DLC cost for the last game?

      • +1

DLC bundle for first game was 7.48 last week.

        • Took almost 5 years to get to that price but following the base games release in Aug 2017.

Original season pass was $30 at launch (which if the same this time means you're no worse off buying the standard edition then getting the DLC later), and remained at the launch price for over a year. There was then a few sales late 2019 where it was $18 before settling into a fairly regular sale pattern of $14.97 over 2.5 years.

Depends how long you want to wait I guess. The base game I believe dropped in price well before the DLC did.

Regular version on discount and dlc full price is more likely

  • Is the regular first edition any good? Watching a vid looks all animation and less game play?
Son is getting switch for Xmas and looking for cheap games but there is no such thing as cheap Nintendo games lol.
Son is into Mario big time and loves platform style games which he uses on an old wii.
Funds permitting and if any deals there is a couple he has said he would like for wii or uses similar on wii.
But unfortunately these ones was not on a deal with prime.
But still time yet to get deals further in the year.

But is there a lot of game play on the first one as for this new one $99 no chance

    • Its a very fun game and it is mostly gameplay. Its a turn based tactical game though so a lot of the game is assessing the field and then picking a move while characters are stationary. It's less dynamic than a real time game, but its not a CGI fest by any means.

  • Good price. I'd rather preorder Steelbook Edition (exclusive JBHIFI) $79 & buy season pass on eShop.
