  • How much would you need for one average sized sedan? Can be applied by the average do-it-yourselfer with a few tools?

    • +3

As long as you prep the paint correctly, it's pretty straight forward. Just have to take it slow and methodical. Plenty of guides on YouTube. It's all about paint preparation though, you want to do a full decontamination to make sure the paint is as clean and good as possible so they coating bonds the best it can.

    • +1

30mL will do it fine. And yes this is designed as a more user friendly, DIY suitable product.

    • +2

1 bottle will be fine for 1 coat, it's very simple just don't leave for too long before wipe off, DO ONE PANEL at a time. Watch YouTube to get an idea.

In saying that a car should be clear from defects, if your car is older than 2-3 years you will most likely need a buff.

You can do a coat but if there is defects you'll see it, so I recommend a correction before applying

    • -1

You can do 15ml for a sedan (only needs 1 coat), I always use csl+exov4 on my cars and lasts for years.

      • I doubt it, I used about 20ml on a small car (Mazda 3 hatch). 1 bottle 1 sedan imo

        • -1

You're probably over doing it then, I definitely used 30ml for 2 cars

          • @FeZZa21: 1 coat is over doing it?

I think your not using it properly.

Doing a proper coat is not going up/ down, your meant to criss cross pattern. 1 going up or down, then going sideways. Wait 1 min and wipe off with clean microfiber cloth

  • How does this compare to their Serum Ultra?

    • +1

Gtechniq say “It offers 80% of professional Serum Ultra’s performance”

  • -1

    Good price for gtechniq.
I'll stick to cquartz uk 3.0 as the price is lower and its very user friendly

    • Lower? where?

      • By one get one free at Waxit!

        • Lol not really, you only get the eraser free.

    • +2

Lol. I’ve never seen UK3.0 this cheap let alone cheaper.

    • Ur wrong there, I paid $100 with 20-30% discount going from memory without eraser etc. I clean the panel with prep wash then apply cquartz.

This is cheaper, $20 extra but get double the amount

  • +2

This part of the description is a bit scary for the novice user

"A coating so hard that if applied incorrectly can only be removed by using 1,500 grit sand paper"

    • +1

A simple compound/polish will be fine.

    • +1

i was about to buy it then i saw your comment, also scares me now

    • If you have a good idea with car detailing you'll be fine, I've done it before and it was very simple

    • +4

This statement, sounds more like marketing more than anything.

    • I think they've copied the wrong description, that sounds like CS ultra which can only be applied by an accredited detailer. From what I've read CSL is their consumer product and is much more forgiving.

      https://www.gtechniq.com.au/auto/exterior/crystal-serum-ultr…

    • +3

I bet the 60 grit on my random orbital would also remove it.

      • +2

Make sure that you use a hammer first to crack the coating.

    • +1

      1500 grit is very fine

  • Don't know about the warranty, I've heard stories of the fine print leaving you out of luck come claim time, especially if the 'installer' has gone out of business which they tend to do often.

    • No warranty here obviously, just an indicator that with correct application and maintenance it’s a very durable coating.

      • +1

As they are from reputable brands for that kind of money. I doubt the 5 year life, from my long history with 100's of these 2 years is to be expected.

        • -2

Sounds pretty expensive to pay someone to do a ceramic paint treatment if it only lasts two years.

A good polish like NuFinish will last a year or two easily and cost you $14 for 5 years worth of yearly treatments you do yourself.

Or go old school with a carnauba wax every 6 months for the ultimate shine.

          • +1

@Grok: lol, Nu Finish is literally one of the biggest jokes you can have with a detailer.

Carnauba waxes, even the ones costing thousands like Zymol don't last more than a month or two, especially in winter and summer and the protection is poor.

Synthetics are the way to go and anything called ceramic is nonsense according to my guy, it's just a buzz word and I hate slimy marketing like that.

Hybrid is a mix of carbauba and synthetic and doesn't do what you think it would which is offer the best of both worlds.

            • @[Deactivated]: Sorry, Nufinish works. Detailer don’t like it because it you don’t need them.

I have been using it for over twenty years and every car the paint has been protected for many years, never had faded paint. I agree it is not the best gloss but it protects the paint and beads for a year or more. NuFinish is a polymer, a synthetic wax.

Plus you can buy it regularly for $12 and it will last 5 years.

              • @Grok: Nufinish absolutely works and lasts easily 6 months or more.

                • @10101010101: Keep using it then boys 👍

"NuFinish, the once a year polish"

Not only is it the lowest grade wax available, the company don't even know the difference and definition between a polish and a wax 🤣

  • +1

This is good stuff. I had a detailer put it on my car, but in hindsight I should have done it myself (car was brand new and paint didn't need any correction). It's been almost a year and water still beads up as it did the first day and makes it shine really nicely.

    • +1

You still need to prepare the paint before coating. It would be harder than it looks I'm sure.

      • +1

It's new car , what does it have to be prepared for ? Maybe wipe it off with detailer spay before applying?
        Newbie here.

        • Most have a waxy protective coat when you get them. The dealers do an average job removing this and wouldn't decontaminate for metal and grit etc.
I paid someone to do my new car too, no regrets.

        • You would just need to wipe over the whole car with 100% isopropyl alcohol before applying.

    • -6

It’s a brand new car, NuFinish would still bead after a year and you would still have 3/4 of a bottle left.

  • Thanks this is a good price I picked a couple up! I've read a lot of people put EXO v4 over this - is that necessary and what's the difference?

    • +2

That’s the Gtechniq recommended topper, as it is much more hydrophobic. But doing this on the cheap for family cars I’ll probably just use Bowdens Happy Ending for absolute ease and economy.

      • +1

        +1 for happy endings

  • +2

    These facial serum looks cool

  • +1

    Comparing Gtechniq and cquartz

Both are done professionally and used detailer grade so probably not similar to what we can buy. Gtechniq definitely keeps my car cleaner and it feels easier to wash. both are still working as intended after 2 years. I parked my cars indoors and always garaged even at work

For my next car, i may DIY since cost is labour is significantly higher now hence pro detailer will likely pass the cost along. Just need to lower my expectation

  • I'm not so sure CSL does well as a 'standalone' coating - Its always been my understanding that CSL is more of a 'base layer' and EXO should go on top for max durability. Otherwise, I would GUESS that CSL will really stop performing on a vehicle that is parked outside after a mere 12 months.

    Forbidden SARM

  • hells yes Gtechniq has some great stuff! used when in the UK and swear by them

  • price went up to $90.xx ea

    • yup 2x with the 20% off now comes to $145.54 for 2

  • Search for Mr Fix 9H or similar on eBay or AliExpress. Blue bottle with gold cap. About $6 delivered. Similar stuff, may not last as long but it's $6 and outlasts any polish, wax or similar. One bottle will do a standard car easily. May also cover a SUV but go for two bottles just in case.

Wouldn't use it if I had a Ferrari, Lambo etc but fine for low end luxury cars and below - Audi, Mercedes, BMW, etc

    • +4

low end luxury cars and below - Audi, Mercedes, BMW, etc

careful, you'll trigger a lot of people with high yield investments.

    • Ordered, but I’ll test it out on some rims first. Thanks!

  • +2

I wouldn't pay the RRP for this. Cqartz uk 3 is much better value imo.
But if you have two cars or want to split with a mate, this is great. Dunno if it's worth buying two and waiting 2-3 years to use the other one.

If anyone is thinking of just getting this and nothing else. There's a whole process to ceramic coating cars. You'd be looking at $200-$300 in other materials and a polisher before you can apply a ceramic coat.
The ceramic coat product itself is probably the cheapest item of a proper detailing process.

If you love your car. This is definitely worth the time and money.

    • +3

This kit will help kick start the process.

      • +1

That and polishing kit / liquids is all you need.

  • I knew I should have bought CSL shares!

  • +1

The 50mL is still available for $98 making it the same price per mL.

    • How much do you need for camry sized car?

  • How does it compare to Turtle wax ? Sorry for the noob question. I got the Turtle wax, but never got time to prep the paint.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Turtle-Wax-53409-Solutions-Coating…

    • turtle wax says 6 months, this says 5 years.

    • That turtle wax will last a couple of months.
A proper coating will last a couple of years.

      • So is it OK if I apply Turtle wax if paint is not fully prepped as it not stay long?

        • If you apply unprep it just means stuff will not stick properly to your paint. Hence reducing the product's life span on your paint even further.

          • @kekw: But I remember reading that it will trap in the scratches and swirls for a really long time. Thats what I am worried.

            • @John Doh: It will easily come off with a strong car shampoo. And exposure to the elements. Heck, if you really want it gone, wash your car with dish soap, then deal with the swirls and scratches. Before you apply the spray on tw, just wipe down with a surface prep spray. Easy n lazy. Yes, it's not 100%, but if you're time poor, it's about 70%.

  • -2

How long to eyedrop the whole car?

  • +2

I've bought the 30ml and 50ml bottles multiple times but it never gets delivered from the UK.

I get the despatched notification then 2 weeks later get an automated type email stating we've received your returned item the refund will be processed!?

Tried discussing this with amazon chat a few times with no resolution just gave up….

    • It's because it gets damaged/leaks during shipping. I've had the same problem

      • I've literally placed a dozen orders none get through.

Ordered from amazon US shipped no problems but its almost as expensive as buying it locally.

  • Mine just got cancelled and refunded zzz
