Bit weird that this is getting posted as a deal now, when all of these products were probably part of the Buy 2 get 20% off deal that just got replaced with this new and worse Buy 2 get 13% off deal.

    • -1

      cheapest at the moment though?

      • +5

Yeah probably, but as I said the timing seems weird, effectively they've all just increased in price and then they get posted as a deal.

    • +1

Was the old deal posted on OzB?

      • Not that I know of, it was around during the Amazon Prime day sale so it may have been mentioned in deals related to that.

    • +5

      Invalid neg, reported.

        • +6

It's also nuts to be paying $2000 for the latest iphone, in my opinion, but people still buy them.. and when they go on "sale", it's still technically a deal that others may appreciate knowing about.

          • -3

            @[Deactivated]: I'm half convinced.

Say knipex produced an updated model of these for $2000. Then they went on sale at 50% off for $1000. That wouldn't deserve a neg? Substitutability across brands should be considered when evaluating a bargain - especially when each item functions in exactly the same way.

              @iamherenow:

Substitutability across brands should be considered when evaluating a bargain

Yes, for many generic products. However, when dealing with brand-name items e.g. Apple, an iPhone user won't (can't?) substitute a different brand for the same quality, let alone the iOS experience, prior app purchases etc that are involved. Price is only on factor.

Knipex would be considered the apex of quality for hand tools, and as such the reputation and quality is being bought just as much as the 'value'.

Besides, you didn't provide any alternative product links for users to compare, as per OzBargain policy. If you find a better deal you need to provide proof or you'll be negged to oblivion

          Clearly never used quality tools.
There is a massive difference between these and cheap shit.

            incorrect.

There is a massive difference between these and cheap shit.

            Disagree. Hence why $50 isn't a bargain.

            • +2

@iamherenow: You are yet to share a shopping link to another electronics precision VDE cutters that are cheaper.

              • -5

@g1: Can't be bothered. Everyone knows there will be cheaper options out there than knipex. And even if I did find it, i'm sure it wouldn't be seen as suitable substitute for some unimportant reason. Kind of like if knipex made toothpicks - oh the tip angle is 0.0005mm off, the wood density is x percent less, not the same…still a bargain at $20.

    • Also, watch out, next thing you know you'll get that troll @kiteo running his mouth off about what constitutes a commodity.

    • +3

VDE precision cutters? Give us a shopping link to another electronics precision VDE cutters that are cheaper.
That's the main item in this deal, prices for the other items are not as relevant as they are not the headline deal items.

  • Are these flush cutters?

    • +1

Knipex makes both flush and non-flush version of cutters and assigned with different product code.
Unsure if VDE varient has non-flush or not so better check their website.

    • +3

These are flush cutters, I have the ESD pair

In the description if you scroll down:

Ground, very sharp cutting edges without bevel

I'd actually recommend the ESD pair over these, if you don't need VDE protection (a bit odd to need it on such small cutters)

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Knipex-78-71-125-Multi-Component/d…

These are not only a bit cheaper, but this particular model has a wire retaining clip - so your small leads and wires don't go flying off when you cut them. I find it very usefull

      • most people probably don't need ESD either, so if you can pick up the comfort grips ones cheaper that would be the go

knipex sure like selling things with different handles!

      • Does that silver piece of "wire holder" obstruct you by any chance on the ESD version?

        • Personally I've never ran into a situation where it's been an issue, but I guess it technically would increase the height of the jaws. Maybe in very specific circumstances you could run into clearance issues
