What's OzBargain's New Favourite Mattress in a Box?

With the reputation of ZZZ Atelier going downhill, is there a new consensus on the best MIAB for the money (say sub $600).

Most of the common recommended (Koala/Noa/Ecosa/Sleeping Duck etc) are $1000+ .

I've got an older model ZZZ and love it, but we're upgrading to King, so interested to know what's out there.

IKEA mattress with a plush mattress topper is great.

Had an Ikea mattress since I moved to the city over 12 years ago. The first failed after 7 or so years and ikea replaced it with a new one, they also included free delivery of the new one and removal of the old one.

      • Do you remember what year?

Also I’m impressed they decided to send a replacement without investigation.

Did you send photos or videos?

I just checked my emails. January 2019 is when I submitted the warranty request so the mattress was 8 years old.

They requested photos, not that they really showed how badly it was sagging and bulging.

The process was so easy that at the time I wondered if that model was a known defective batch or something. They gave me the option of a refund, or store credit for a new mattress and included free delivery and removal.

    • Which ones are plush?

I just got a king ZZZ about a week ago.

It is amazingly comfortable and is exactly what I was after. Overall firm but with some plush due to the eurotop.

The only question is how it holds up over time.

    • I'm almost tempted to give one a go again for the price, but a bit hesitant after the recent reviews from people on here.

Even if it lasts like 3 years I'll be more than happy. $420 delivered is insane money, especially considering that the SD is $2k

Suggested None (for those who don't like/trust compressed mattresses)

I'm of the opinion that a highly compressed mattress isn't going to have the same uniformity and tensile steel strength as a 'typical' retail mattress. I would be interested if someone has already done a comparison of different brands and styles, but if you are trying to squeeze a mattress into the smallest possible volume for shipping there are going to be structural compromises made.

Doesn't mean they're bad, or faulty, I'm sure others have had good experiences, but I'm still a bit pensive - especially when the price is no cheaper than a classic mattress.

Any recommendation on a traditional king mattress for sub 1K?

  • Suggested Sleeping Duck

Has done wonders for my back.

Just went through this last year - tried a few box and store ones and ended up with the Sleeping Duck which I love. Being able to switch out the foam tops is also really handy.

Before that I tried Sleep Republic which was awful - was super hot to sleep on. And a store bought Sealy which was also bad - started sagging after about 9 months so went back to the mattress in a box route.

Had my Sleeping Duck over a year now and no complaints.

I went with Koala in 2015 as they had the best warranty. Few years later, it developed dips on both sides, but it was still pretty comfy so whatever. But when I started cosleeping I reached out to them this year, sent some photos and they sent me a brand new one. Great customer service. I find it comfy, like soft but supportive.

My Koala mattress unfortunately has big dips after only a year, and I am not a heavy person! I have heard of quite a few people with the same issue. Might have to reach out to them.
So I probaby wouldnt recommend one.

    Suggested SleepRepublic

Got these guys after seeing an online review by some company that rated it as the best bed in a box mattress. I haven't tried the others and I really like SleepRepublic. I'm a hot sleeper as well, but my bamboo bed sheets help with that.
