Does anyone use these beans on a Breville Barista express? Curious on what grind setting you have it on?

    • 4.5

    • +4

      There is no such thing.
You have to dial in YOUR grinder with YOUR beans in YOUR environment.
Most of the time whatever number you have on your grinder is for your reference only.

      • +16

… But you can start at 4 or 5 and go from there as a reference point..

        • My experience: if I am refilling the hopper with fresh beans and finish them quickly enough (up to 1 months old) I don't have to adjust the grind setting too much.

      • +5

Correct! Any other advice is (unintentionally) misleading. Even as you go through the bag of beans, after a couple of weeks the grind will probably need to be tweaked due to the beans aging. I have been to a few people's places and they grind too course, because somebody told them to use setting X or Y and they get a 10 second pour which isn't ever going to be a great coffee.

        • I get that every grinder is different but no matter how fine I grind, I end up with a 10 second pour with the Barista Express.. 9g dose and 27g liquid… single wall filter 1 cup basket…

          • +1

@AbbyL: You need to use the double shot basket, not the single shot. Also you can adjust the inner/upper burr to finer setting if the grind dial already on #1. Try to also increase the dose.

            • @huntabargain: Thank you! I'll try the double shot basket with 18g dose and see how I go…
Fingers crossed it increases the pour time and then I can finally stop mucking around and just press the button for a coffee! 🤞😬😊

          • +1

@AbbyL: You also need to program your machine. Some good videos on youtube. Ideally 1:2 ratio or beans to liquid

            • @hmac: Mine is like 1:3! Yikes..
I was hoping the default settings would just work without manually programming it in..
I'll give the double basket and increased dose a try and if that fails, I may have no other choice than to try and program the machine…

              • +1

@AbbyL: That was me when i first started. Didn't think i needed a scale and i was getting 18g of beans to about 56g of coffee. Glad i programmed it hahaha. I am having trouble maintaining consistency with my machine so i program and weigh each shot i pull

                • @hmac: Haha.. same… I only got a scale now… 😬
I was going in blind everytime for the past few weeks… tweaking the grind size and dose without any proper technique or consistency…
Will see how I go now that I finally have a scale.. :)

                  • @AbbyL: A scale Will make a world of a difference! Wish i bought mine on day 1 hahah! I keep buying more stuff, got a funnel on the way, bought a tamp that was more consistent each time

          • @AbbyL: @AbbyL - I got this machine today. May i know what do you mean by 1 cup basket ?

      • +2

That's the best bit of coffee advice ever. Every grinder is different, you need to find the setting that works for you. My Breville grinder is set to 15, but the number is irrelevant. A 15 on one grinder is a 5 on another.

    • You gotta dial it yourself through trial and error.

    • +1

Best off doing what the rep normally recommends and just use the setting from your last grind and start tuning.
I have the BBE and use inner burr "5" / outer dial "Fine" but everyone's grinder in the BBE will have different tolerances so it's not much help.
One thing I did notice is I need to grind a little finer after the Sumatra aged 3 weeks.

    • Chimi please let us know if we can help when you are dialling in.
You can reach out any time.

      Cheers
      Dan

    • I used grind size 4 for sumatra on my breville smart grinder and i dial mine in by using a bottomless portafilter. My friend has the Barista pro and we use almost identical settings when we order in the same coffee. Every bean is different so best to dial it in on the first few brews if changing beans/brands etc.

  • Looking for beans predominately for long blacks. Good blend or better blends for blacks?

    • +1

dazzza this one is very popular for black coffees.
Hopefully some of your fellow OzB team mates will jump in with experience.

      Cheers
      Dan

      • Cheers Dan.
        Ozbargainers, good for blacks?

      • +1

I quite liked Sumatra blend for long blacks. It was smooth and balanced. I found it great when having a couple or more a day. If you are a looking for stronger long black try Enterprise.

  • Hey team works got a big coffee machine so I need fine grind as don't want to mix with the crazy KUA beans. Which one is for the machine?

    • Hey Captain!
Assuming the big coffee machine is an espresso machine you would order espresso grind 👍🏼

      Cheers
      Dan

  • Is it medium or light roast?

    • link says light

    • +1

      It’s our lightest roast wallaby12 👍🏼

This or wait for enterprise for milk coffees? (Almond lattes)

    • +1

This is great for milk coffee

      • Hope so, soy and almond milk drinker here

        • So is my sister and she loves it.

      • I’ll take your word for it. Ordered!

        • I run th s through a Lamazocco Linia Mini, have ordered award winning coffee's from numerous coffee breweries across Australia, this specific coffee is organic so it doesn't give me bad guts or have pesticide crap spray all over it, it has a slight caramel/chocolate smooth coffee taste and most of all actually tastes great for a $30 coffee after discount. It is now my favourite coffee, this is my 4th or 5th order now after hearing about it on here.

    • Yes. Agree! The enterprise blend is so good with almond milk.

  • Hey guys, do you have any fruit-forward blends/single o’s for milk-based coffees? Any deals coming up on these if so?

    • +2

Closest we might have foxjack9 based on feedback is our Pegasus Blend. Likely to be on sale in the coming weeks.

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers

      • Bravo on delivering so quickly! Here already!

  • 9/10 caffeine anything a bit more mellow?

    • +1

      Hey there DialADeal.
Our darker roasts have slightly less caffeine.
You can see on the product page of each blend if that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

      • Thanks any you'd recommend for long brews such as aeropress

        • +1

Enterprise Blend is a great place to start in our range. If you try it, please let us know how it goes for you.

          Thanks again.
          Dan

  • Is this suitable for cold brew?

    • BucketsJackson in general a darker roast will give you a smoother cold brew but we do have numerous customers who brew this one cold.
Hopefully some might jump in here with their experience and thoughts to help.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo where’s the decaf discount?? Now gotta buy from Woollies :(

  • Hi Dan,

Would this blend be nice for cappuccinos and black coffees in fully automatic Philips 2200 latte go machine? Are any additional settings on machine required?

    Thanks

    • Hey there Ametric.
I haven’t worked with that machine specifically but will certainly try and help re settings when you are running your first couple of shots if needed.

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

Wasn’t a fan of their Sumatra coffee. Nothing spectacular. Sicilia Coffee is beating them by price and flavor! Use THANKS10 or CHEERS10 to get 10% off and order 3kg to get it delivery for just $5. Always good and not jacked prices!

  • +3

Will we ever see Sumatra single origin, ever, again? I miss it so much!
