Myki Not Responsive and Possible Resolutions

Hi, I'd like to share my experience with Myki digital this morning and hopefully will help people out there.

Phone: Oppo find X2 pro
I recently upgraded the os to color os 12.

This morning I tried to touch on my digital Myki and it didn't work, I've restarted my phone and NFC too, the issue persists.

When I touch on my phone, it does not do anything.

After speaking with the card inspector, I tried the "move to another device" & activate the digital card a couple of times and it started to work.

Perhaps something you can try.

  • Not many details there. Almost like "turn it off and back on" solution.

Was the problem with your phone, with the Myki digital, or with the thing that you were trying to touch on to?
Were you on a bus, or tram, or at a railway station?

Honestly, not sure, probably my phone issue, especially after the recent OS upgrade.

I was about to take the train, when the Myki reader does not do anything (my NFC was working and I was able to make a normal google pay purchase).

  • I use an Xperia and this happens sometimes too. It's ready to go and I keep trying and trying without any luck. My previous Galaxy Note 8 was like that too. Sometimes, it'd work after a few tries of closing and reopening the app. Other times it still didn't work by the time I got to where I needed to go and I'd just get off. Free trip, I guess! lol It detects the NFC, but doesn't recognise the "swipe". Other times, it works first go. I suspect the app itself could be the problem.

I have no idea what the implications are when it comes to the inspectors, but I would expect them to write me a fine (hear they're like robots and don't listen to reason) that I would then need to appeal.

    • Yea, thankfully, the officer from the local train station helped me, she posted on her internal discord channel to ensure all other officers are aware of this issue (in case it is a spreading issue).

What I did is try to top up my Myki balance to show that I genuinely cannot touch on.

    use a normal card?

And pay $7 for the card? Why when you can use Google Pay?

      • Reliability?

        • I hear you, I might bring a backup card and thicken my wallet with it…

@BigLeviathan: I'd way up the risk of having to fight a fine. It's a plastic card, not a brick.

  • I largely use trains so there are multiple scanners for me to use. At Parliament station coming out onto Lonsdale street there is one gate that just refuses to read my mobile myki, but the others tend to work fine. If I ever forget I end up standing there holding my phone near it and nothing happening, but as soon as I walk to another gate and put my phone near the scanner, it picks up relatively quickly.

Same as touching on/off at other stations that don't have gates - there are normally a few readers on pillars and if one doesn't work immediately, changing to another resolves the fault quickly.

One issue I have is when I reload with Google Pay it makes me sign in to google, then respond to a TFA notification (on the same device adding absolutely 0 security), get a "something went wrong" message and then sign into google again which finally allows me to make a payment. Annoying as hell, and google don't make it easy to find someone to raise such an issue with.

The workaround for me is to setup "auto top up", thus no longer annoyed with this issue
