Coffee Bean Recommendations for Bean to Cup Machine

We recently purchased a fully auto Delonghi Magnifica Evo ($900 from JB) and are now trying to pull good (not necessarily great) coffee. Anyone else using automatic coffee machines? What beans do you use for your machines?

Thanks in advance!

Wouldn't this be a matter of personal taste? Try a few till you find the goldilocks for you.

Also that machine appears to be $100 off on sale right now at JB. Might want to see if you can return and repurchase or get difference credited if wasn't too long ago.

Buy fresh beans, then it's a matter of taste.

    • Yeah but there's so much options so trying to get some recommendations. Also, I saw somewhere that there are some beans that are marketed specifically for bean to cup machines so I was hoping there's people here with the same machine type that might have recommendations

Just buy a bunch and try them.
    Depends on budget and tastebuds.
I actually found we liked the beans from aldi better than some of the specialist roaster beans that cost 5x the price, and their availability was convenient also.

    • Yeah actually have the aldi medium roast currently but i think our settings are off

      • Try dark, it’s more forgiving and fully auto can be limited in perfecting the settings.

        • Oh alright might give aldi dark a shot next time. Thanks for that!

if you don't know what to do… drink a number 2?

i thought it was if you dont know what to do, do a number 2
my mantra from now on lol

I highly recommend beans from Mecca Coffee or Sample Coffee.

And per robbyjones, consume them while they are fresh, i.e. within a month after roast date.

    Campos

    The best

    • I second this!
      Campos Superior are the best.
I keep coming back to these after trying many different beans and these always win.

I think this is a generically good coffee for someone who wants a flavour closer to McCafe and also doesn't think they're a chemist when it comes to coffee. Currently $17.55 with S/S

It comes down to personal taste and Grind, I have a Jura S8…so far the best bean to my liking is the Sunset Blend from Inglewood $30 per Kg when on sale.

I’ve heard others say the best is Aldi’s brand at $10 per Kg, I recommend you buy a whole bunch of 250g samples and give them a go until you settle on one.

    • Still trying to tinker with the settings so was hoping to eliminate bean compatibility as a variable. I know it depends on taste but if it's good enough for others, then we'll give it a shot (get it?)

      We'll try inglewood then. Thanks!

Try a few cafes and if you like their coffee ask to buy some beans. The beans will be fresh, and you know you will like them. Also the coffee you just enjoyed will work as a benchmark to help you dial in the machine. Enjoy!

    • Direct Coffee is a great place to order a variety of beans from highly regarded roasters. They periodically advertise deals here. Seven Seeds and Padre are two of my favourites.

  • madamimadam reviver coffee beans. we hunted around for ages when we got our machine, and nothing has come close. we accidently stumbled on it in the mad dash of the first lockdown in March 2020 (we literally ran around that sunday arvo trying to buy a bulk few bags of coffee beans so if the world ended as all predicted and everything shut, we would atleast be caffeinated, and turns out has been the best find we've ever had!)

Consistent, high quality and simply absolutely delicious coffee.

I buy the freshest and cheapest beans that I can find on OzBargain.

Some are good, some are okay. If price is an issue get Aldi beans medium roast (as above). My favourite of the ones that are regularly on sale on here would be Inglewood (I like the Roosevelt blend); if you like hot chocolates get some of their drinking chocolate whilst you're at it. Normcore at 40% off are fantastic beans too (they're still expensive but they're good however note that Normcore I have to do a lot to adjust the grind settings).

Fresh beans on a crap machine is better than stale beans on a fantastic machine (assuming the person doing it knows what to do).

  • We keep going back to Cofeesnobs Beanbay.

  • Any recs for dark/medium roast beans that are not acidic/low-acid for use with a plunger? Maybe a value option (Aldi/Coles/Grinders) and a premium option for Perth?
