Was as cheap as $3245 a month ago

    • Why were you negged?

      • +4

Because time machines don’t exist (yet?)

      • Also because their eBay deals have been Sydney only in the past. We bought this fridge a couple of months back (GREAT fridge), but paid the 3780 price because we couldn't get the ebay special in Melbourne

  • +3

yep spewing I missed those discounts back in June. my old fridge was on borrowed time and grabbed one when it reduced again, although not as low as last time

  • +2

Retravision will price match + extra 5% off if you have RAC, they actually can pull up the prices from all competitors in their system. Make sure you have an RAC card or borrow a friends and put on a wig. If you need it now or want to lock in the price, an extra 5% isn't bad. Appliances Online (ebay especially) don't deliver everywhere either.

Sometimes you just can't wait or can't put off locking in an order. I've been following these for a while and I don't think I've ever seen an ATL with plenty in stock for immediate delivery, generally you have to wait at least a few weeks/months.

they actually can pull up the prices from all competitors in their system.

You mean they can Google search

      • +1

It's linked to their software internally for every single competitor they list on their website. Maybe it just pulls the source via google, but the interface is their own and is integrated just like any other page of their internal system.

        • That's cool I'd love to know more

yikes $3k for a fridge, Thought paying $1k was a lot
Unsure what's so special about this to make is so special when you can get 700l fridge around the $1.5k mark

      Made in Japan.

    • +3

I agree. Bet it doesn't last 3 times as long as a $1200 fridge

      • +1

Maybe breaks down 3x less often

        • +1

my 1k fridge works just fine for 4 years now

          • +1

@Mouse123: I brought my 2K fridge 8 years ago, still kicking. Mine need to connect to water source, so that it can make ice cubes and supply icy water.

      • Yes, it does. I guess you have never owned any Japanese made white goods. They are like Toyota cars.

        • Yep, expensive.

        • +7

          Not really a good analogy.

Toyotas are reliable but pretty bear bones, feel cheap and don’t drive well.

Lexus is better. Japanese reliability but higher quality.

Previously owned 2 Samsungs. my superceded Mitsubishi is well worth every dollar ($3,500).

    • +1

Rephrase: I have no idea why this fridge costs this much but it seems too expensive, hear my opinion, world.

      • +2

not really an opinion as it is a question to understand why the high price.
Got a Hisense roughly 500L more than 8 years ago for around $500 and still works like new so thought I'd ask if there was something to make me buy it when eventually mine runs out

      • +1

Few things that put it above many others:

        1) Power consumption is one of the lowest, if not THE lowest for the that volume (700L) @ 425kWh/yr.

        2) Slimmer form factor means it can squeeze into narrower fridge cavity.

        3) 5 year warranty with 10 year warranty for inverter/compressor gives it the edge over many competitors.

        4) Build quality is far superior than many others

        5) Not many other companies offer freezing hot food without causing moisture condensation/freezing.

        6) The overall design and functionality is much more though full; albeit not everything.

        7) If you can grab it at <$3500 then it’s a steal.

    • +1

I thought the same but ended up buying the white one for $3500. Makes the kitchen look more awesome. Never thought I'd pay 4k for a TV but did that too

  • +6

Bought it 4 years ago and never regret! One of the best. It is so good at the point that I bought a second one for the living room!

    • -2

      hahahaha

  • +3

Looks a good fridge, but I want plumbed Ice & Water on the door.
The middle drawer is especially convenient. (no bending down)
I think Samsung is the only one that has all these features.

    • I don't currently need a fridge, but definitely want plumbed water and ice again next time.

  • +8

Have a Mitsubishi Electric fridge, can confirm it is the best purchase I’ve made for my house. Expensive but no regrets and 100% worth it.

  • +7

I would 100% buy one of their fridges if any of them had water dispensers

  • +1

    King of the fridges

  • +4

No water and ice is a deal-breaker for me

    • +1

It has an auto icemaker. Drawer on the left, second row. Uses an internal tank that takes a few seconds to refill. No hassles with having to plumb it in.

      • +1

I have to open the door to get ice? No thank you sir

        • It’s s separate small compartment door. Surely it’s not that inconvenient for you is it?

    • Just curious what do people need water from a fridge for? I'm assuming your fridge is in the kitchen where there's a tap for water already?

      • Mostly used in summer for cold and filtered water, and ice dispenser is handy too.

        • So there is not enough room for a jug of cold water?

I used to want ice/water maker but I found that throughout all these summers I hardly ever had the situation where I really needed cold water in excess of a jug full.

The separate drawer for ice maker in this fridge is perfect and you don’t need to open the entire fridge.

  • Sure, but my kitchen is already plumbed with a water line at the fridge space. This is a great fridge but impractical for my use.

  • Idk if it's just me but fridge water/ice always tastes like shit when I get it from my various friends houses.

    • +2

Because they probably don’t change filters or have any in the line. This is another reason why I moved away from this; even though my home has plumbing ready for the fridge.

  • Can't believe a nearly 4k fridge doesn't at least have an in door water dispenser… I wouldn't pay $1500 for this fridge.

    • -2

So you’re saying it’s too much of an inconvenience to have a jug of water in the fridge and fill it once in a while?

Beggars can’t be choosers I guess.

      • +3

It’s like you are asking why people want keyless entry when buying a Mercedes-Benz or BMW because you think it’s not much of an inconvenience to open the door with a key?

        • This is a bad analogy because there's been a spate of car thefts/entries of keyless entry vehicles - turns out that the phsyical key was actually much better at doing it's job of restricting the car to the owner only 😁

          • @Nom: talk to a Tesla owner and their face will be clueless when talking to you

  • I’ve found water dispensers to cause too much mess from spills and water filter annoying to change

  • This is the best fridge I've ever owned. 3 years old. Biggest fridge capacity at this volume/size/measurements.

  • +1

Not sure if this is a good price, but I just want to put in a plus one for this fridge. I've had it for 5 years and its been fantastic. One major plus point I don't think anyone has mentioned here that is really important to me is that its dead silent. The only fridge I've ever had that doesn't buzz and hum and clunk all over the place. Great for any place where the kitchen and living area is open together.

  • +1

This fridge is brilliant! The glass panels on the front are so easy to keep clean, it has an incredible amount of storage space because how deep it is inside and it's very quiet. Easily the best fridge I've owned. Haven't seen a better designed fridge to date. I don't miss the water dispenser at the front at all.

Used to have a Samsung with the water and ice dispenser at the front, but it was the first thing to fail after a couple years and start leaking. Followed by the light globe failing which was near impossible to replace, especially after warranty. The quality and design of the shelving also wasn't great and it was noisier.

Once you've experienced one of these made in japan Mitsubishi fridges you won't want to go back. Especially if you have a smaller cavity to fit a fridge, the storage space relative to its size is so impressive. It also has a very classy, minimalist look about it that I find very pleasing.

My only complaint is that the ice maker/water reservoir needs to be cleaned every few months to get rid of the small amount of algae that forms around the internal mechanism. It can be taken out easily because it comes out like a tray. But it's a bit fiddly to disassemble, clean, and put back together. After doing it a couple times it's not too bad, just wish it was easier to clean.

    • Can the ice maker be removed and drawer repurposed?

      • +2

For sure it can. Just the little place in the fridge where the water reservoir for the ice maker is kept is a little hard to repurpose as the connections for the reservoir are built into the fridge walls. The drawer is fair game though.

      • +1

I use my versa drawer as a freezer.
