I feel ATOM quality has really gone down hill since they got sold off some years back but at $12 it’s worth a punt even if it does crap out in 6 months.

    • +2

Why are you thinking? Buy now, think later

      • No stock within 45 min drive minimum (maybe at all?)

    • +3

… hmm, maybe not worth the punt if they require professional installation (unless you're licenced).

      • Being compliant requires that. If it matters to you.

        • +3

Insurance requires being compliant. If that matters to you.

  • Thank OP! Great find

  • Useful thing about these is the physical remote which works locally. I believe bunnings also has it on clearance at $7.50, although stock is feast and famine between stores.

    • Couldn't find it under $20 online. Will Philips HUE dimmer switch work with it?

      • -1

Most smart lights say not to use a separate dimmer. These have dimmer function via the app.

        • +1

You don't understand what that means.
Also, hue is ZigBee, this isn't.

    • Do you have the link to the remote? Can’t find it on the bunnings nor atomlighting website

      • +3

Yeah it's weird. I couldn't find it on the bunnings website either. But at least half the stores I've been to have the new ones on the shelf for $24
Even weirder, is the ones that are being cleared about are almost identical to the new models. As far as I can see, all thats changed is some certification ticks being added.
Weirder again, is that these aren't infrared devices, but fully fledged esp32 chips, and yet don't work with the Wiz branded bayonette/screw bulbs (why?), which are also being cleared out at <$5 each.

But they do work amazingly with the Atom Wiz oyster light (I have the same model as this one but slightly bigger)

By the by the bunnings code for the remotes is 4897104950241

        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/wiz-wi-fi-remote-control

        • Are they definitely esp32s? The box says no wifi and looks like BLE.
Are you using your remote as is or did you load a custom firmware?

          • @ruddj: Remote box says wifi.

            Also says works without wifi

            • +2

@outlander: esp wroom 02d, so it is an esp8266 in the remote

there is some code for using the remote in esphome https://github.com/jesserockz/wizmote-esphome . the data structure of the wifi packets is described

              • @c64: Thanks, this is perfect.
Still trying to decide if I want to use the Wiz Home Assistant integration or replace firmware on light with ESPhome and use the existing esphome integration.

My big worry with so many IoT things is longevity. How long until one of the companies decides to stop supporting the old products and turns of the servers. Much prefer ESPhome and HA stuff where everything is contained on LAN.

            • @outlander: Thanks. I was trying to open mine last night to check and got the 2 screws and clips near battery off but couldn’t open up the rest.

I bought 12 oysters and 4 remotes but had a go to a few stores. Got them for $11.40 on powerpass.
Also found $10 fans which i grabbed a few, bathroom mirror for $40 discounted from $349, and a 900mm vanity for $135.
Was pretty much good luck as i was shopping to upgrade fans and lights at my place

Was aware of the price for about 10 days

      • Why the negs? Good for you.

        • Must be all the single people living in 1 br apartments that couldn't contemplate than an average sized house would have a need for 12+ lights and a few remotes.

          • +9

@2023: I don't think it was the large qty buying but rather sitting on the pricing for "10 days" and not sharing the deets with people here.

            • @MorriJ: That's some entitlement. But yea I never want to second guess the internet mindset.

            • +1

@MorriJ: I told my relatives and there was barely enough for them to upgrade.
If i posted here, they wouldnt have a chance to get any

            • @MorriJ: maybe also some people think it's like bragging to say you knew about that price for 10 days. I wonder what's the point of putting that in?

      • -1

Saw the price while browsing last week. Bought 1 thinking 'how bad could it be, for $12 if it does half of what it advertises I'll be happy'. Installed it that night and absolutely loved them.

Picked 6 more the next day, they only had 6. The day after checked another store and picked 8 more.

        Absolute steal for $12

    • they did have the wiz remote, but no stock

None in Perth for pickup or delivery as far as I can see.

    • +1

Not sold in WA for some reason. A lot of lights are only sold in Armadale store (outside Perth city limits for regulation), but no stock there either.

  • Do you replace downlight with these?

    • +3

You can… it’s usually used to replace old oyster fittings though . Would be good for a swingers apartment (concrete ceilings can be annoying for conventional downlight installation) - rgb colour change prob a bit much for most people.

      • +5

        Swingers apartment?

        • +1

So you can, switch the led to red!

          • @2023: for your outside entrance to show the johns where to wait

    • It is 16W and hard-wired, would be used as a central light for a room.

  • +1

Not able to choose delivery, only in store / click + connect (if you can find one)

  • +1

No sure where I can install it….

    • I am thinking the same

    • +2

In a gamer pc for bonus kw

    • Strange when I used the Bunnings website it says that Tweed has some and C&C is available, but at Ballina it's not sold there but then they give an aisle and a bay number ??

      • Yeah the stock api seems to give a rough estimate.

        • yeah last time i drove 3 Bunnings over to get something that was 'in stock' there was nothing. Thanks for the intel @Clear!

          • @Juice08: Always worth giving them a call. sometimes they'll check the shelf for you.

  • +1

Great price but impossible to find one.

  • +4

I bought a few of these when the clearances started … paid $20 each then. They are REALLY cheap quality but have some great features. The main feature I like is you can set two different settings for brightness and colour. When switched on at the wall point it is setting 1. Switch off and on and it is setting 2. Once set up with the app, these settings are stored in the fitting and operate without wifi. Variable soft start with ramp up time up to 5 seconds also.

Globes and downlights all have the same features. Their quality looks OK. The remote is one remote per room, but then you can choose 4 different settings.

The app supports multiple preset colours, timers, themes, scenes, etc and usability is one of the better ones I have seen.

    • +1

      They are REALLY cheap quality

Negative. They are the same quality as the dumb ones i currently have that are $60 each. I also compared them to a few at bunnings.
They are made from polycarbonate which makes them break resistant and light enough to screw into gyprock

  • This smoke detector is hopeless. lol

  • Link switches to a 'not found' page

  • Damn… these would have been the perfect replacement to the old crappy circle fluorescent oyster lights in our rumpus.

Not travelling to North Lakes to get some stock though…

  • So when it says 16million colors it's talking about RGB right? Also where would you get replaceable "bulbs" from?

    • So when it says 16million colors it's talking about RGB right?

      Yes

Also where would you get replaceable "bulbs" from?

Well… you don't it's a bunch of LEDs. Each has a life time of about 6 years, so in the event a tonne died after 6 years, you'd need a new light. Unless you wanted to replace the individual diodes a guess.

  • Has anyone ever found a good, bright RGB colour light aside from Hue and LifX?

Other brands are fine for CCT (warm/cool), but very dim in colour mode. Ikea was better than many but still not great.
Not even Phillips specifies lumens for anything except white.

    • I bought a 3 pack of Arlec grid connect RGB globes b22 1050 lumen 12w from Bunnings last week for $26.98. They are dimmable, connect to tuya or smartlife app and are really bright.

      • I bought them for $15 on sale. The RGB is very dim compared to philips and lifx

        • +1

Was that each or pack of 3?

  • Thanks OP. Grabbed last 6 in stock in Gympie

  • Is this just an oyster with a light bulb inside?

    • +1

Nope. This does not have any replaceable parts or globes. The RGB(+CCT) LED chips are arranged on a PCB behind the diffuser.

  • Got couple of those few months ago for $17. They are unstable on wifi connection, have to manually switch on/off when the connection dropped. Sometimes they turned off by itself. Not recommended. Drop out happens around weekly, and the setup process sucks.
However, the other version with no IP rate performed so much better at the similar price. I think it is called Wiz Atom Oyster LED AT3013. Can't find them on website, but sometimes still put on the shelf next the this one (AT 3017)

  • +1

cant get it on bunnings website. Product page comes back with - "Page Not Found Sorry, we hit a snag!"

  • +4
  • the app is pretty buggy

when i turn a light off, it momentarily turns off and then comes back on

  • I ordered 6 of them on Sunday with delivery option and they messaged me yesterday that it's out of stock all over sydney and they gonna refund my money within 3 business days.

  • All 6 of mine got refunded as no stock.

  • +1

Managed to get 11 lights for $12 each and 7 remotes $5.03 each. They’re excellent!
