  • Really wanted to try these, but the media reviews and customer reviews seem very average for the price :-(

It's difficult to get an even coverage in the media. For example, in car reviews, any and all cars that are not $200k supercars are underpowered with steering wheels that are too easy to turn. In the same avenue, I imagine all reviews will compare these to apple watch and complain the Withings watches are not smart enough, while ignoring the months long battery life.
I've used Steel HR sport for 3 years or so. Only gripe of mine was the watch hands were not illuminated, so I had to press the button to check the time at night. SW 42mm has solved that and also offers glimpse mode. It also added SpO2 and EGCs and so far they seem reliable and easy to use. Sleep tracking is hit and miss for individual nights, but still offers good insight over longer period of time.
TL;DR: Excellent battery life, competitive price when on sale and just smart/dumb enough for me. Very happy.

      • There are just so many negative reviews though, all indicate the metrics are very inaccurate, it's poor for fitness metrics if you are into improving fitness etc, and also seems quite expensive for the materials and features offered compared to other watches. Even the Huawei GT2/GT3 and similar models review far better and are cheaper, and offer almost similar battery life.

I think the killer for me though, was unreliable metrics, and low quality materials. My running mate got one, and scratched it on it's first day. The GPS was one of the least accurate he's used, and the heart rate sensor had massive delays, and often didn't update at all. Sleep tracking for him rarely worked at all, and when it did, compared to Apple watch or Samsung watch, it was completely different results.

I think I would prefer the gen 6 Fossil Hybrid hey

        • I've been trying some of their watches for a while now and can confirm they undercount steps.
I wouldn't call it inaccurate, but more that they may be going for steps that are certain as opposed to just hand motions etc.

Compared to miband or whatever else, if you're walking ~5000 steps for exercise it counts ~500 steps less.
Where the problem lies is say you're in the office and only walk to the toilet or whatever, this is when the discrepancy really widens and could end with a few thousand steps difference at the end of a 10000 step day.
I wouldn't be able to tell you which one is more accurate, but at the very least its a good indicator of how much exercise you're getting, assuming Withings is consistant.

As for the other sensors, I rarely play with them but I can tell you getting ECG to read can be fiddly AF and SPO2 is very pedantic on no movement during reading.
Heart rate seems to work fine.

The Withings scales are also pretty nice and seems to be pretty good at monitoring trends.
My one also has feet that work on carpet which is nice.

@wwwsam: Agree with the general comments above.

I would recommend the ScanWatch if you are after a fitness tracker (not a smartwatch, they are different categories).

I've used a Fitbit Charge 2 (2 years), then a MiFit (2.5 years), and now the Scanwatch.

If you are ok with Google's (Fitbit owner) approach to privacy then just get a Fitbit. It's the most economical reliable fitness tracker.

I don't trust Google with health information so I went with a Scanwatch. Plus it looks like a normal watch.

MiFit is cheap but the stats are not accurate.

Realistically though the main benefit to all of them is just trends over time. So don't worry too much about the hard numbers, just use it to track increase/decreases over time.

I had the original wifi smart scale for 10 years and recently upgrade to the body cardio. In terms of accuracy, especially the breakdown of fat, water, muscle %, I do find it fluctuate quite a bit even if you take a few readings consecutively but over time, you can clearly see a trend (especially for the kids) which is what you want. The thing I like about this scale in particular is its wifi enabled so the family just need to hop on like a regular scale and I get the full history of their weigh ins in the Withings app. In the original version, Withings packed in a temp and co2 sensor which was nice but they have removed them since :(

  • Same deals from JB last week. Bought the thermometer and the BPM connect.. Would have wanted the watch but not too keen without Apple Pay

  • Hey guys, don’t bother buying from the good guys, purchased a white scanwatch during the last sale and still have yet to receive it. Originally they sent over some wireless earbuds instead of the watch and now have waited over 4 months for the actual watch and it still hasn’t come in yet.

Because of one incident you don't recommend buying from good guys? I mean if we did that as a rule, we wouldn't be able to buy from any place.

      • I meant this particular product being listed from the good guys, but yes apologies for it being misunderstood as it being a negative flame on good guys as a whole.

  • Tried to order the sleep monitor for some juicy home automation integration - $55 for shipping?!

    • Same. No pick up option in WA either

    • Try JB hifi with 92JBFRENZYJUL, and if you use Shopback, $3 cashback challenge on the $100 gift card

  • Looks like Amazon are price matching this.

eg Blood Pressure Monitor - https://www.amazon.com.au/Withings-Connect-Wireless-Pressure… - $107 with voucher for 10% off at checkout, ended up at $96.30
