basically like skype but free and better

really good deal if you need a US number to make and receive calls or texts to any mobile and landline in the US of A, Canada and Mexico [there may be more countries available i haven't checked]
also, make calls to any Australian landline.
and receive calls from anyone around the world.

All for free!
What a time to be alive!!
remember not so long ago you were paying who knows how much to make an international call

Have been using this for a little while and it's beyond perfect. It works well on their app, but i love using the website on my pc, everything is so smooth, and i find that there are much fewer ads.
Also great if you want a number to get your authentication codes anywhere in the world even if u cant access your local mobile number. although it doesn't always work with some companies they may ask you to get the paid version but i found that it works with most.

I can finely be paid with gift cards

    • +7

Yeah I'm so sick of being paid coarsely

      • +1

Yes conventional payments are too tough for victims of tax fraud and computers with hAcKeRs. They've already suffered enough.

Scammers use this app all the time, just like how they use anydesk, teamviewer etc.

I tried to sign up but account get blocked. Do I need to be on VPN?

    • +1

Same here. Blocked after creating an account. Says this account has violated our Terms of Use.

I have too many Wal Mart gift cards I need to send to ATO.

Has anyone got this to work?
Genuinely interested as I intend to provide a US number to recruiters for job search.

    • Here or in the US ?

      • Get it to work here.

        • So you give Aussie recruiters a US mobile number for them to employ you here in Australia?

What’s the point ? If you are here in Australia, give them an Aussie mobile number.

          • +1

@HardQuiz: I meant to get the online USA number to function in Australia so I can provide it to US recruiters for easy contact

  • I posted this some years ago and have been using it. Had no trouble signing up in 2019! Maybe they've made some changes

The only issues are they'll recycle your number if you don't send a (free) text every 30 days. They now don't allow you to receive authentication texts from services like Netflix unless on their paid packages.

Via iOS at least, in the Apple App store you can subscribe to a "lock your number for 1 year" for $7.99 per year which removes the need to to make a call every 30 days and does also allow you to get the authentication messages.

      • Via iOS at least

When I tried to subscribe to lock the number on iOS in app purchases, the cost is shown as $2.99/wk. Was there another way you did it in?

        • +1

I didn't subscribe to it personally but I had some friends who signed up for the annual number lock around 4-5 months ago so possible they changed it but if I look under the "in app purchases" section via the app store, you can see the annual option listed so might be worth contacting them if you need it. See my screen shot below.

    • i've had my number for years as well and it sends you a notification that your number will expire. i don't know why i cling onto it so badly but it's a free number and you just never know when you might need a legit number lol

    Use google voice

    • that is for us only

      • Correct to sign-up it must believe you are in the US. It's not difficult to make it believe that using a VPN. Just saying it is not impossible and is free.

Your Google Voice number (415) 9XX-XXXX will expire in 30 days

        Hello,

We noticed that you haven’t used your Google Voice number in a while. Because phone numbers are a limited resource, it is our policy to reclaim unused numbers so they can be made available to new users. If you’d like to keep your Google Voice number (415) 9XX-XXXX, you will need to make calls or send text messages by July 24, 2022 by logging in to your account or using the Google Voice app on Android or iOS.

        • i have tried it before and it banned me so idk what i did wrong

          • @HaydosK: Maybe it was obvious that you weren't in the US?

I have one for more than a decade now, signed up while in the US. Can't remember which trip, but probably was there for a good month at the minimum. I had it linked to an actual number in the US at the time, but that number has long since expired and removed. I also had put 10 dollars in the account as well.

Google now just bugs every couple month to remind me to "use" the number or they will cancel it. So I just send a random text to my brother in the US.

            • @annarchon: idk but they told me if i tried to sign up again they would close my google account. its scary. i wasnt in the us when i first tried but i tried in the us and it still didnt work and i dont want to lose my account

    • Google voice is my to go when travelling overseas..still keep mine ..

I kept getting the error trying to create account using email as some of us have reported - saying account blocked. I then just joined using apple instead of email and it seemed to work.
I was also getting the blank screen before after putting the area code I wanted (not sure why I wanted though) but finally got it to work by just using the area code it showed as sample 304.
All good, using the app now.

    • Thank you will give it a try

    • I got up to putting 304 into the area code and then it went to a blank screen after that.

      • It did that for me when I tried to register using email. It only worked when I registered using apple instead.

        • I pretty much tried everything, Apple, Facebook and still got the same

I get a message not available in your country from Play store. I have an Australian account

  • This is not in the Australian Apple Store any more
