8 Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch < $100 - Recommendations?

Hey guys,

don't expect there to be much of a muchness at this price range, but I'm looking for a recommendation on an 8 port gigabit switch under $100.

Two options I'm looking at are:

TP-Link TL-SG108E - $49.90 (after AFTERPAY10 code)

Netgear GS108E-300 - $49 (after code)

Emphasis on the unmanaged.

Are either of these particularly more reliable than the other? Anything else in the price range worth going for? No point springing for 2.5 or 10gigabit, as main router doesn't support it. No need for PoE.

Thank you

Maybe look at the TP-Link TL-SG108, as it’s generally slightly cheaper, uses a little less power and you probably don’t need the web interface on an unmanaged switch.

    • Oh yeah, that's going for $37. Good suggestion!

I've installed multiple TP-Link TL-SG105 and TP-Link TL-SG108 in my house and in my friends properties, and haven't yet had any problems with any of them,

    Netgear

    • Why's that? Better experience with reliability or speed throughput?

    Consumer grade switches just work.

These two products are small business switches that tell the administrator what they are doing, and cost more.

Enterprise grade switches tell the network management department you what they are doing and let them configure a whole lot of stuff, and cost even more.

If you are asking what you ought to buy, it sounds like you just want it to work, and what you need is a consumer grade switch.

Yeah, exactly. Just want it to work. I think I'll go with the standard TP-Link TL-SG108 that AB100 recommended, then.

      Maybe the Tenda.

      Thanks

    I got a Tenda one for $27.50.
I haven’t tried to flog it and see what its throughput is, but it just works as far as I’m concerned.

    • Thanks

    • Any reliability issues? Was set on the tp-link until I saw the power and Ethernet were on opposite sides.

      • No issues, but the power plug is on the back and the Ethernet ports on the front.

        Never noticed that before.

Either way plastic is cheaper so that's the one to get regardless of the way the power faces.

        TP-LINK SG1008D
$28 @ MSY with power on same side

  • The SG108E is actually managed but limited so it only does basic VLANs and static link aggregation.
