Tiger Multi-Functional Rice Cooker 1.8l JKT-S18A $579.98 Delivered @ Costco (Membership Required)

230

The Tiger multi-functional rice cooker was designed to cook large quantities of rice quickly (up to 10 cups capacity), making it ideal for large families. The rice cooking function is versatile and unique, with programmable settings for cooking different types of rice like white, long grain, brown, oatmeal and porridge. The power of induction heating and the "tacook" synchronised cooking function allows you to prepare two dishes simultaneously, while the smart microcomputer technology Automatic Cooking Logic automatically senses, adjusts and actively monitors the temperature of the rice and other food you’re cooking to produce the perfect meal.

It comes with an exclusive steaming basket and a steam function, with steaming time that can be set in five minute intervals from five to 60 minutes, a four in one function menu (rice cooking, synchro-cooking, slow cooker, bread baking), and an 11 setting computerised cooking menu to give you plenty of cooking options. The five layer metal inner pot with three layer coating, ceramic coated inner pot and included tacook cooking plate make cooking easy, while cleaning is made simple with the removable and washable lid. A cookbook is also included to help with meal inspiration.

I wonder if his Youtube channel has resulted in the increase usage of MSG by home cooks.

      • Broken english has gone thru the roof, at the very least.

at least no sad gloopy rice

    • Isn't his a zujoroshi or wtv it's called?

Good little unit. Parents have one. Can’t fault it.

how's this and the Cuckoo one Costco had on sales last week?
    Thanks

    • +2

This has Induction Heating versus a traditional hot plate in the Cuckoo.
Larger capacity 10cup versus 6 cup uncooked rice.
      And the additional steam functionality.

If you just want rice, the Cuckoo can't be beat for the price. It has all the smarts to make great rice.

I think they are interested in comparing this one to the Cuckoo IH 10 Cup Pressure Cooker CRP-CHSS1009F

        • +1

Ah. OK. Well the 1009F Cuckoo big difference is that it pressure cooks the rice and can also be used as a pressure cooker.

Does pressure cooking make better rice? Depends on individual taste and the type of rice. Eg.i think basmati rice wouldn't be nice pressure cooked

          • @pencilman: i cook my basmati rice on my Phillips pressure cooker and they taste better than my well… $10 Kmart rice cooker okay well sorry not a good comparison but… i still think my basmati still taste good… :-D

      • +2

Traditional hot plate, no that is not correct for all the models, i have this model (https://cuckooworld.com.au/cuckoo-ih-6-cup-pressure-rice-coo…)

Also the tiger listed here, like both, but prefer cuckoo

        • The one on sale last week wasnt the IH model, it was some $139 sale.

          • @ATangk: I think that was on sale 2 weeks ago. The one on sale last week was IH, pressure cooker, at a $400+ price mark

            • +1

@Averell: I feel so dumb. I had been looking out for it too, but got sick over the weekend and missed it.

I have this one for nearly 5 years, it works pretty well. But I think the Cuckoo one is better as it has pressure cooking, which is very useful to cook meat.

    • +1

If you want the fluffiest rice possible then go with the mid to higher end cuckoos (not the ones below $200). Induction plus pressurized cooking does wonders to rice. Both brands have multi cooking functions and fancy cooking algorithms. Tiger is a time honored brand but it's a bit behind when it comes to tech these days. The old Tiger rice cookers from the 70s and 80s would last decades but I doubt modern ones are that durable. My mum has an old Tiger cooker from the 80s that still works. But we've been going with Cuckoo for over ten years now.

    • I prefer to Cuckoo.

    • the unit for $139 is 3 cup capacity. Is that the one?

  • Damn these cookers are so expensive.

    • Damn these cookers are so expensive.

My Target $15 one still fine.

Who will pay this price for a rice cooker?

  • +1

Got one of these - love it. Can't fault it either.

  • Should be called a price cooker, not a rice cooker. Paying that much to cook the cheapest food on earth is lunacy.
