Cuckoo IH 10 Cup Pressure Cooker CRP-CHSS1009F $469.99 Delivered @ Costco (Membership Required)

Black

IH rice/pressure cookers are also classified as pressure cookers. All pressure cookers basically build pressure inside the pot to cook food. This process enables the rice cooker to reach a higher boiling point than when it is at a standard pressure (1 atm/105 Pa->100 degrees Celsius). Pressure cookers can reach 120 to 150 degrees Celsius. IH rice/pressure cookers build more pressure and thus have higher boiling point than a conventional pressure rice cooker. IH pressure cookers use induction heating technology (induction coils build electromagnetic induction to heat up the whole stainless steel inner pot), whereas conventional pressure cookers use a heating pan to heat up the inner pot.

The rice cookers can reach higher boiling points. Not only does it reach a higher boiling point, but it shortens the time of cooking. When food/grain is cooked at higher heat within a short time, the food becomes softer and tender. As the whole inner pot (bottom and sides) is heated up instead of only bottom of the inner pot (conventional rice/pressure cookers use a heat pan on the bottom), the rice is more evenly cooked. This is what makes the Cuckoo very popular in international markets.

This product features:

  • Voice guide function: 3 Languages, Korean, Chinese and English
  • High Pressure Mode Cooking / Non-Pressure Mode Cooking
  • Induction Heating
  • Inner Pot: Diamond Coating
  • Inner Pot: Stainless Steel
  • Manual instructions (recipe included), stainless steaming rack, scoop, measuring cup

What? This is insanely expensive, there are tons of better value deals

there are tons of better value deals

Please post one and that will increase your deal post count to 1.

  • Anyone knows if this is cheaper in store?

    • +1

Only ever seen the cheapest model in store.

    • +1

Don't think they have this one in store.

  • +5

    Nice pressie from wife's boyfriend

    • +2

      What?

      • +9

        Cuckold

    • Maybe from the kids; that don’t seem to look like you or the wife. If their eyes start glowing, get out.

  • -7

Not familar with the brand. how come it is so expensive?
Would go for philips all in one cooker, $179 now, less than half the price.

    • It has pressure cooking powers.
Cooks rice faster and use less water.

The biggest bargain comes in its ability to turn the cheapest 25kg rice bag into nice soft fluffy rice you get from fresher and more expensive bags, in my opinion.

  • -7

My $14 Kmart rice cooker cooks rice perfectly fine. Is this really 30x better?

    • +9

This is not just a rice cooker.

    • +10

I was skeptical at first too… Is a $400 rice cooker that much better than my $130 Panasonic that has served me well all these years?

The coating on my Panasonic started peeling so I took the plunge and bought this.

The cooked rice is SIGNIFICANTLY better.
Grains are separate, chewy, al dente is how I would refer to it.

I never really used to go for seconds but now I find myself getting more rice and eating it plain.

Up to you whether you think it's worth it, but for me, it is… It really opened my eyes to how good rice can be.

One other comment: I find the menu very difficult to use. It's not intuitive at all.

      • +2

Yeah, I think a lot of people just think rice is well, just rice. It's not until you've actually tried nice rice that you understand what the fuss is about.

      • +6

Have to agree… the rice out of this is much better than the tiger I had. Very happy with thus rice cooker. I eat rice daily.

Also funny story, little baby neice from interstate visited us. She doesn't really like rice, but after trying some of from this rice cooker she kept coming for more. So much so that they went out straight away and bought a new one for themselves lol

Kmart fanboys are like Android fanboys who always comment on post that is irrelevant for them.

      • Your comment is no different from Android/Apple fanboys.

    • +5

It really depends. Is ferrari 30 times faster than a second hand camry? Do all the beers taste the same? Does recent iPhone improve my connectivity 10 times better than my nokia? Seriously, everyone has different taste and if you don't feel the value in it, that could be just a waste of money to choose a fine product over a cheap ones. However, there is absolutely no reason to mock people who enjoy and appreciate them and are willing to pay extra for the latest technology and quality. Especially on a product deal post.

  • That's a lot of hundreds for a pressure cooker. Anyone used it? Like it?

    • -6

Most peoply buying this also crazy for K-drama.

      • -1

        too true

    • See my above reply to the question posted by user Dust.

    • +1

I used to sell these, you'd save space combining the rice cooker and pressure cooker, but would need to spend hours on hours fiddling and dialling it in like an espresso machine and grinder for your preference.

    • +1

I bought this recently and I like it. If you cook rice very frequently it's definitely worth it.

  • Is this one where it adjust the cook based on how much water you put in? As in it's ok if you put too much or too less water?

    • I don't think it adjusts to the amount of water automatically. You can adjust how you want your rice cooked though.

    • +2

yep pretty much all japanese/korean rice cookers like this have fuzzy logic. if that's all you want i'd recommend just getting bottom of the range cuckoo - it will still do a way better job than a kmart cooker.

with this cooker, you're paying extra dollars for
      - induction heating (supposedly heats the bowl more evenly/quickly resulting in better cook although i've never noticed much difference)
      - gaba brown rice functionality - this is main reason i have it - you put brown rice in it and it sprouts the rice grains before cooking them - supposedly much more healthy than regular rice, but actually make brown rice taste delicious (soft/fluffy like washed white rice, but with all the flavour of brown rice)

      • We used a traditional Panasonic one (no IH, no induction, made in Thailand I think). When it broke, changed to a Xiaomi IH (the one without pressure cooking function). Saw no difference, and both cooked terrible brown rice (side question: is brown rice the same species as white rice?)

Did you mean that I should use this cheaper Cuckoo (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/705271) instead of the one in the OP?

        Thanks

        • +1

NO. pressure is better, quicker. cooked in 30 mins vs 1 hour.

      • Good to know it can do this I guess? In a way I would prefer it to not adjust as we sometimes want to adjust the outcome by adding more or less water. I'll have to read through the manual and see how to adjust the cook depending on what we want to achieve.

    Best rice cooker out there!
Will turn homebrand rice into glutinous rice!
(If that’s what you’re after, my Asian household love it)

    • I should ad, regular settings are fast already but there is also turbo setting.

      • for the Cuckoo, how much cooking time for regular and turbo ?

        • +1

39 mins for normal, 19 mins for turbo.

    • Agreed!

    • Agreed, i have this & phillips as well but this is much much better

    • We were a Tiger household until 3 years ago.
I just hope the cuckoo lasts as long as our previous Tiger cookers, which I’m doubtful.

      • It usually lasts until the rubber seal is worn (replaceable) or internal battery dies (hard to replace, but possible).

      • mine has been going strong for the last 6 years, the only thing replaced is the rubber seal ($25)

        • Once the battery dies you either keep it plugged into a GPO all the time or having to listen all instructions in Korean every time it starts.

  • +1

https://cuckooworld.com.au/cuckoo-ih-10-cup-pressure-rice-co… is the distributors own site, if people wanted to know the normal price.

This is also a better deal than Bing Lee 20% off whenever it pops up.

Casuals and oldies beware, 90% of the rice features are for adjustments in the texture, doneness, scent. People buying this are buying it to serve as a smart pressure cooker on top of its rice menu.

    • +1

We bought it because we've always wanted a Korean pressure rice cooker (wife is Korean) and we eat a lot of rice. We've lived in both Korea and Japan and the rice was just so much nicer there. I don't know if we will touch the other functions to be honest.

We always balked at getting one as the entry price was too high. You could really only get one from overseas or at Korean supermarkets. With Costco and Bing Lee entering the picture the price dropped a lot and we thought why not. We are really happy with the cooker.

      • Is there a minimum amount to cook? Just me and my partner, the 6 cup version is more expensive, wondering if I could get this instead.

        • +1

Minimum is 2 cups/servings. If you want to cook porridge, 1 cup of rice, but still makes two servings.

  • -2

Is this like Apple of rice cooker?

    • +7

      More like the Samsung…

  • like how the rice being cooked
but looks like a bomb in the kitchen LOL

    • Yep, won't buy one till they release their newer not so ugly ones here. Though they don't seem to care about our market as it's been years now..

  • Got it via the previous Bing Lee deal. Love it.
    The voice guide is amusing.
It also has the fast cooking mode so you don't have to wait for 50min if you are in a hurry.
But it is definitely recommended to try the normal mode and wait for 50 min for much better taste.
And it releases the pressure automatically.

    • The fast setting is a nice convenience feature… but the rice from normal time is definitely better, its more evenly cooked.

    • I have a rice cooker (not pressure one) but I don't use it, only when there are lot of people. I cook my rice about 2 cups at a time and just pot on stove and normally less than 20 min. Why pressure cooker takes 50 min ? I am talking about normal white rice not brown.

With enough water, my rice will become congee after 50 min (if that is what I want).

      • It's not 50.. more like 30 mins

  • -2

Besides being able to talk Korean and Chinese, how is this 7 times better than the $62 kmart pressure cooker?

    • +8

If you’re in Sydney. Let me know when you want to try some. I’ll give you a take away container.

      It’s 10x better

      • which area do you live in? I'm keen. Thanks

    • +1

this is a rice cooker with pressure (intented for rice cooking)
      not a standard pressure cooker
the kmart one is a standard pressure cooker (can cook rice but not specialized in cooking rice)

this is using IH technology which evenly heating the rice
instead of just heating from the base of the pot

most better rice cookers are from japan (Tiger, Panasonic) and korea (Cuckoo)
even the highly rated Xiaomi IH pressure rice cooker is using japanese technology

      • I have a Xiaomi IH non-pressure. Didn't see any difference from the traditional Panasonic one.
Should I try the pressure version?

      • So it's more limited than the kmart pressure cooker, which is intended to cook everything plus rice as a bonus.

        • +1

can't really compare in this way
rice cooked in a rice cooker taste way better than in a pressure cooker (eg. the rice texture, softness, sweetness)

for asian that cooking rice everyday
a proper rice cooker is basically a must in every home

    • +1

There are a lot of things in life that Kmart cannot offer. There is difference between surviving and living a life accept it or not.

    • its like your asking Prada, Gucci, Chanel, etc to justify how you guys are 10000% better than a kmart bag, clothing, etc

  • Wishing it was the 6 cup version on sale.

  • Fuiyoooohhh

  • +1

You should note that the other colour has been discounted too. You can't just select the colour on the page for some reason.

    Black

    • Ta. Will add to post.

    • Is the black one, like a dark stainless or plastic?

      • Hmm, I'm not sure. Isn't the silver one just fancy plastic made to look like stainless steel? I went and had a quick feel but couldn't tell. Sorry, I can't take a good look right now unfortunately.

      • they are all stainless-steel finish.

  • +2

Always the 10 cup, howcome the 6 cup never goes on sale! 😅

  • It's so expensive and it's not even a Dyson. What does it actually do that's better? My $100 pressure cooker hasn't missed a beat.

    • -1

Agree, my $62 kmart pressure cooker cooks to perfection. It heats and pressurises over a certain time, there's no magic involved.

      • +1

If perceptions of perfection can differ,
then there's no such thing as perfection then.
        haha

    • +1

if you are a gwailo, you wouldnt understand/know the difference

  • +1

Is this better than instant pot?

    • see my comments above: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12441388/redir

This is a IH pressure rice cooker, not standard pressure cooker

can't compare as they are not in the same product category

      • so I have this set up now. Can I pressure cook in this like a normal pressure cooker? I can't find the settings.

  • do they have 6cup version at costco?

  • Given their similar in price, how does this compare to the Tiger one?

    • +1

I would say similar quality, but different style of rice. This being a Korean rice cooker results in more 'korean' style rice.

    • +1

Coming from a cheaper tiger, to the more expensive tiger… to this.

This is way better, no question. If you eat rice daily it's a worthy investment imho. Not only rice is cooked better, but its also kept better.

The only thing I really don't like is the pressure release which is annoying. I have to keep it near the rangehood to avoid moisture buildup on the cieling and cabinets. But I'll put up with it cause the rice comes up so good.

      • I am using an expensive tiger atm and it is way better than my old cheaper model Panasonic.

The only reason I don't buy pressure rice cooker is finding the pressure release is annoying and especially I often put other ingredients like Chinese sausages and chicken during cooking to make one pot rice.

        • How is this way better then the high end IH Tiger model? The rice comes out perfect, whether its Jasmine rice, Brown Rice or Basmatti Rice. The quality of the unit is also great ecpecially the 5 layer metal inner pot.

    • This one is better.

  • Does anyone know about cuckoo, not IH vs IH model? Is IH worth 200 dollars more?

    • Typically, yes if you eat rice more than 3x a week.

You can get away with getting a Joyoung or Midea or Xiaomi IH ricecooker if you're not after the pressure functions as it's much cheaper, but the catch is warranty is a little trickier as they're small local distributors rather than a big retailer.

IMO, value features rank in this order:

IH? > 'how thicc/dense/metal is the inner pot?' > Size? = Added features? (pressure cooker? steamer? app?) = Warranty/Parts

If you want the ricecooker to last, consider searching if the model's rubber gaskets and replacement inner pots are on the market or if it's strictly only going to be available within the warranty period.

Tiger does have the parts, but it's like pulling teeth, so ask for a spare inner pot early. Cuckoo has the parts on hand but once they're out, they're out, so buy a gasket or two. Parts for Xiaomi can be sourced internationally, the other chinese brands are less sourceable.

    • +1

if you really eat and enjoy rice, regularly,
then, spending (eg. $200) for something you enjoy,
      and enjoying that over 10years….means,
you spent (eg. $20 per year) to have continuous & regular enjoyment.

  • Just looking at the buttons make u think that u are operating the international space station..

  • Haven’t got this model but have another cuckoo. Turbo mode gets rice cooked in 15 mins. Awesome for those that eat a lot of rice and run out!

  • -1

Better off buying a Ninja Foodi and creating a custom profile for your "perfect rice" at home based on the rice you buy. This product is fine, but it's a two-trick pony with not great serviceability nor warranty.

  • +3

this is top of the line brand of pressure rice cookers. unparalleled. pls don't compare to kmart trash.

ps. get decent quality rice from korean or japanese groceries. just not 'sun rice'..

  • anyone who has this, how is the pressure cook only function? Can I use this as an instant pot?

  • is this Roll Royce for rice cooker?
