Security Sensor Camera with SD Card, No Network Connection

I need a camera or two for the shed which has mains power but no wifi or mobile network. Must be able to record, on the SD card, for at least a week or two before it overwrites the data. Night vision needed.

Cheers

    Powerline Adapter ???

    • Good thought but it's a stand alone shed on a farm

      • Oh Bugger… 😔

    Hunting Camera?
Pretty sure my local aldi had most of them on clearance about a fortnight ago

    • Might be the way to go. Although they are quite expensive for well reviewed ones and not mains powered?

Just place a vending machine with a price error in your shed and wait for the OzBargainers to come rolling in and live stream/record it.

  • A reolink does as far as I can tell. There would be a couple of issues:

    1. if you record constantly, the sd card won't last 2 weeks. If you record motion only, wind might fill your card in a day. Maybe you need to look for person detection models (assuming that meets your needs) so that it won't fill the card too quick.

    2. Getting your videos from the camera. You don't really want to be pulling out the sd card constantly. Maybe a hotspot from your phone would work with a wifi camera so you can use their app and view/download video.

    From reolink:

A 1: Traditional wireless and PoE IP security cameras need to be connected to your home Internet, if you want to get remote live streaming, motion detection alerts and other smart functions.

Note that even without Internet, PoE/WiFi IP security cameras with SD cards can still record on site. So, you won’t miss any important moments captured by the CCTV security cameras without WiFi.

    • Reolink will do the trick. But, as you rightly point out, if there's continuous recording, there's not much point.

    • I don't need it constantly recording. It's a massive shed but one side is open. The view is only of the inside if I point it correctly so should only be triggered by wind shadows occasionally.

Yes it would be good to view recordings remotely without needing to take sd card out. Especially if I mount it high up!

Thanks I'll take a look at Reo.

      • I have a couple. One doesn't get triggered by wind. Still have all motion recordings on that from 28 May. The other constantly picks up branches in the wind. That only has last 7 days. But if a spiderweb gets on it and there is wind, it will fill the card overnight. I think both have 32 or maybe 64gb cards. 5mp cameras.

        • Ha yeah, the cobweb trigger. I have a camera at the homestead outside and even though I've paid for an event only plan, it's almost continuous with that spider that just keeps coming back. That spider kind of gives me the continuous plan.

Add in a MicroSD card up to 256GB
Set up the camera for the recording needed - motion, person detect, continuous, noise based, timed etc.
Run from 12V power supply with a barrel plug (not supplied with camera) or from PoE

For POE, that could use one injector per camera such as https://www.umart.com.au/product/tp-link-tl-poe150s-single-p… then run an ethernet cable to the camera

Or get a NVR with a hard disk, which will provide POE to the cameras too. https://www.securitywholesalers.com.au/product-category/cctv… Need to add your own ethernet cables https://www.4cabling.com.au/cable/cat5-patch-leads/cat-5e-et…

    • The 12v sounds like a good way to go. Did you choose this model as it is well reviewed or do you know of it personally? Thanks for the detail.

      • Yes I have a few of them. The Wizsense people detection within the camera is much better than standard motion detection when used outside where there are flying bugs, spiders, moving branches. But they have motion detection as well. Night vision is good

This is the seller trying to sell, so take it with a grain of salt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9_xFaI2hEM

They're more prosumer rather than the plug and play versions.

Or an American take on the cameras https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGRgZWb5zx0

  • Have a look at wildlife cameras.

They are designed to run for a long time with no network.

    • Yeah will do, Cheers

  • Cheap option would be Tp-link C110. It would be able to function without internet but date and time might not be right.

  • I bought some TP-Link Tapo cameras that can record to SD, just need wifi to set it up. Got 2 for $99 on sale.
