4chan, Then FB, Twitter, etc. Freedom of Speech

Hi guys,

I created this account for one reason, I'm curious on one point…

Do you think 4chan is an necessary 'evil/good', I've thought lately perhaps we need a new social platform which isn't as crazy as 4chan 🤣 (I don't use it btw), although. With all this censorship from basically every website, YT, FB, Google, Twitter.

I'm looking for opinions and people that would be happy to in collaboration of such a project.

It's just an idea straight off the bat, the 4chan has catalysted (I don't thing that's even a word tbh haha) some terrible and brilliant results. I have no intention of poaching their community, but the others, those guys… Hmmm.

Perhaps the people should have more control over what is true or false? I would like to think their are more educated people with internet access than not. Might be wrong…

MOD: You can ban this account if you wish. I just wanted to share my ideas

Look forward your replies.

    Lol wut

    • "I would like to think their are more educated people with internet access than not. Might be wrong…"

You don't know anything that was a catalyst of 4chan? Guess I was wrong sigh

  • Banhammer incoming.

    • Yeah, probably. RIP me

      • Where are the mods…. yalla yalla!

  • I didn't want to post my location, I'm from Victoria. This is a touchy issue, but I think necessary evil/benefit to man kind, with 'obvious' rules in place. I just read 4chan's rules. I think it would have to be hosted outside Australia. 4chan allows people to say whatever they wish. An anonymous community, plus simply using a public/private key system can accomplish this, no email, no nothing, but the community +1 or -1 what one votes for online.

  • You really should take your meds …… STAT!

  • Mods are sleeping

    • It's the w/e so they're not all on deck altho a certain SPer likes to take advantage of this

      • What's a SPer? BTW Starting price? If so, probably should of said this is non for profit.

    • But I thought OZB had dropped the Bargain and has morphed into a OZ discussion web site lately.

Give it 10 to 20 minutes and this will be just a bad memory.

      • Give it 10 to 20 minutes and this will be just a bad memory.

Is that when the meds kick in?

  • You could start your own online forum. Anyone can and loads of people have started their own, the problem is they aren't popular. And the moment it does start becoming mainstream popular you'll be enticed by the money to start bringing in rules. Reddit used to be free, but the sale to Conde Nast brought in some rules, and now the preparation for the precious IPO has all sorts of insane rules. If you created the next Reddit and were facing an IPO that could make you a billionaire, are you telling me that you wouldn't introduce all sorts of crazy rules and ban millions of users and subs who aren't IPO friendly in order to protect all that money?

    • I'm thinking more in the line of Hiroyuki Nishimura and Alexandra Elbakyan. I never mentioned profit btw. The creator of 4chan was in $20k USD debt at one point. I'm not looking to make a dime.

  • Perhaps the people should have more control over what is true or false?

Is your idea a forum where people can say what they want, true or false?

Or are you wanting a forum where you specifically control whats true or not?

I'm looking for opinions and people that would be happy to in collaboration of such a project.

Also fwiw you can administer a forum fairly easily without learning much code. There's quite a few pre-built solutions available if you just want to set some site up and let it go.

    • "Or are you wanting a forum where you specifically control what's true or not?" NO

"It takes a village to raise a child". You're right, but not in these times…

  • Freedom warriors trying to tell owners of non-state / privately owned forums what they must and mustn't allow.

  • MOD: Just ban me, thought I was ethically doing some good. Good luck to everyone with your censorship.

Sorry, I thought it was a good idea, no money is involved, thought I'd get a server outta the country and people would help out. Thanks for ruining my day. I won't float ideas again

It's not a bad idea by any means. I'm told that you can get any kind of propaganda of your choosing on Telegram. Just dial up what you want and you can receive a constant stream of propaganda that suits whatever world view you might prefer. If you're looking for actual open and honest debate, the internet is not the place for that.

One person's opinion of what is absolutely true or blatantly false may differ vastly from another's. Just because something doesn't match the mainstream narrative or fit in with the "popular" politics of the time doesn't necessarily mean it isn't true or right. A lot of issues have shades of meaning besides the extremely black and white view that we get shovel-fed with. Modern humans stupidly try to reduce complex subjects to 140 character memes. As a consequence there is no honest debate left in this world. It's as if the legitimacy, validity and morality of every single issue has already been decided in advance by popular vote ("You don't want to wear a party hat? Why don't you want to wear a party hat?"). Try expressing that a cheap cloth mask or 4 jabs that may or may not protect you from variant 1 of 8 (and do absolutely nothing for the other variants) isn't particularly useful and see what happens (calm down, I've had all my shots). I'm not saying we all need to become conspiracy nutters, but being hysterical sheeple and "lambies" isn't much of a way to live either. Just open your eyes a tiny bit and see that there is more to the world and more to life. As to which platforms support this, I can't help you there. They all seem a bit censorious to me. And unless you're looking for an echo chamber, then what is the point? Try thinking for yourself and not letting others do it for you and you'll be a lot happier. My $0.02.

    • Thank you Misplaced.

You clearly put a lot of effort into your reply. I honestly appreciate your honest opinion. I'd like to write something longer, but clearly you have a lot of wisdom, I don't think I can teach you anything.

I was reading this morning at around 6am, before coming on here and getting shot down. I read this quote:

"We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one."
      - Confucius

That's why I came here, I hope at least that makes your day, as it did mine (until…)

Of course catalysed is a word.

    • Thought it might end in -ion

Only did year 11-12 chem ,thinking because the catalyst isn't 'spent'. Perhaps it's different.

      Cheers bud
