not bad… but do I really need another thinkpad?

    • +20

      You already know the answer.

    • +6

      Think about it.

    • +41

Wouldn't expect 24GB of RAM for this price lol

      • 24GB DDR4 RAM, 2400 MHz

      • +6

Wouldnt expect 24gb ram on any stock machine full stop.

      • +1

24GB isn’t that unsurprising, machine probably came with a single 8GB stick (possibly soldered) and a 16GB stick was added.

    • +2

Sorry didn't realise the RAM was that good. My bad, blind eye.

  • +1

Would expect t490s for this price

    • +7

T490s is objectively worse imo. Soldered RAM and no Ethernet.

    • +2

Yeah I got a t490s for $415 in a recent ebay deal, but it has an i5 processor, shame about the lack of Ethernet, but the battery life is amazing and that's what I primarily needed over my t470s

  • saved me from grabbing an XPS 13 as a glorified media watcher/web browser with the current Dell deal, thank you!

  • +1

What grade would you say this is? A? B?

  • +1

Why there is double zero in title - 8650U? :)

    • +2

This one is ten times better! :P

    • +17

      86th Gen.

      • +1

        It's from the future.

        • +2

A cybernetic organism from the future.

        • +5

          still 10nm

  • This is decent value compared to your other deal from a couple of days ago
Strange you sell the other one with Win11 when its not officially supported, but this with Win10 when this is officially supported ;)

    • You should be able to upgrade this t480s to win11 for free. My x1 yoga 3rd gen upgraded to win11.

      • I know, this can be easily upgraded, Windows will prompt for an update automatically. but OP could have easily installed Win 11 out of the box. Just pointing out a marketing gimmick thats all

      • Win 11 stinks

  • interesting you put win11 on 6th gen i7 but windows 10 on 8th gen. I guess with 8th gen, people can upgrade themselves.

  • Good for media consumption?

  • +3

Sold out already? Interested if you have more.

  • Can we have some more please sir

  • i want another one….

  • yeh its sold out… :(

Any Mac book pro refurbished for sale anytime soon ?

    Picked up a x280 fhd i5 8250u for $300, soldered 16gb ram and 512gb ssd.

$500 mark for this is pushing it. Probably mid 300 to low 400.

    • +1

Do you remember where you bought it Domicron? x280 will do for me.

      • Ebay. Was an individual seller. Might be his own one or an IT contractor.

    • How did you solder on the 16gb stick? I can't find instructions for this anywhere.

      • Came with 16gb soldered.

        • +1

That's a real bargain. x280, 16gb, 512gb for 300. You are a lucky man. I was browsing Ebay for such bargain for quite a while but you, sir, have snagged up a true bargain. I bit the bullet and bought the OP's deal but seeing how quickly it was sold out I guess I am also a bit lucky.

@blah88: I am a big thinkpad fan, and have had (still have) many thinkpads. $500 is abit too rich for a relatively old spec.

4core8thread is good for now. But for $500 more, a $1k machine will be more future proof.

            • @Domicron: Same here. I am a huge, huge ThinkPad fan as well. Used to have a X230. It had an awesome keyboard, and an awesome retro looks. It died though. A decent ThinkPad for 300 to 400 is a bit rare. X270/T470 is okay but 7th generation Intel is a tad bit slow for me. T480S will serve me well for two three years as I will use it for email and office suite mainly.

    • That laptop is less upgradable, has less ports, non touch, worse processor, less ram.

All these make up at least $200 difference so your deal isn’t any better really.

  • +1

thats a damn good price. paid almost a grand 2 years ago for my i5 model with a dock.

  • Got one earlier, pleased as I wanted something tougher for a high schooler to cart around. I tried to pay the little bit extra for the 512 SSD but it didn’t update in the cart so just went with the 256

  • I was waiting for this after the 470 deal. Out of stock in an hour! Missed out.

  • Can we use the recent SSD deals for this or is SATA3 not compatible with NVMe?

  • +2

24gb of ram is good for about 5 chrome tabs.

  • What's the warranty on these things?

  • +1

Just a newbie question.would something like this be able to play Command and conquer collections or age of empires pretty easily? Looking a laptop to take fifo ,maybe some Netflix and nostalgic games such as these or similar games

  • +2

This was a really good deal, it would likely hold it's value for years.
I would have been so torn between whether I buy one or not.

  • +1

wow tb3 at that price is insane since you can easily plug an egpu to it and start gaming

  • +2

great deal considering it's an i7, touch, with 24gb ram

  • Spewing I missed this

  • +1
