  • Thanks for the post

How does this relate to a percentage discount please

    • +4

You will have 10% of the gift card's value returned to you in the form of Flybuys points.

      The assumptions are:

      • You convert Flybuys points into Flybuys Dollars (2000 Flybuys points = $10 in Flybuys Dollars).

      • You opt to redeem 2000 Flybuys points for a $10 instant discount in-store at Coles. (This is only available for Coles Financial Service customers with linked a Flybuys account.)

      • You redeem your Flybuys points for gift cards on the Flybuys Rewards Store.

If you use your points in other ways (e.g. convert into Velocity Frequent Flyer points, the 10% figure may not be applicable).

  • What is the best thing I can do with Flybuys points?
Is that the conversion to Coles store credit (2000pts to $10)?
    Thanks

    • You can use your Flybuys dollars in-store at Liquorland, First Choice Liquor, Coles Express, Kmart, Target and MyCar too

      • Will I get a better value to point than that Coles store credit?
        Thanks

        • It's the same value, 0.5c per point

          • @noone: Yeah their loyalty discount is pretty pathetic at $0.005 per $1 spend.

    • +2

Yes. Or you can use the points to buy booze from liquorland online through flypay

    • +3

u can convert them to velocity points at a minimum of 1000 flybuys to 500 velocity points and every now and then they have promos where you get bonus points if you set it up for auto tranfer.
then you can book pretty good flight deals with virgin for example you can book a one way ticket from mel-syd for 13700 velocity points or 7,800 points and $34.39 (or you can toggle with points & $) sometimes it's worth it when you book last minute and the prices are quite high but the rewards prices usually stay low. and if you wanna book business thay also have very good deals.

  • How are you supposed to reach the 50,000 point limit?
With a maximum of 5 gift cards per account, that would work out to be 20,000 points? (5x $200)
Catalogue doesn’t seem to feature or mention variable gift cards.

    • Multiple transactions across multiple stores.

      • “A limit of 5 Gift Cards per Flybuys account applies” so I don’t think it’s possible?? Could OP or someone confirm if the variable load $200-$500 Gift Card is included in this promotion? Thanks in advance.

    • +1

The variable gift card is included (only the fixed $20 card is excluded). You purchase 5 of these with the maximum $500 value and you reach the $2500 / 50,000 point limit.

      • With respect I disagree.

A store manager told me the variable card was NOT included.

After pressing the point to managerial level on the Flybuys contact number absolutely told the variable card was NOT included.

Anybody taking your advice may get a very unpleasant surprise.

The variable card is NOT shown in the catalogue advt.

        .

        • +1

The advertisement in the catalogue says "Excludes $20 Apple Gift Cards", which implies every other Apple Gift Card is included in the 20x points offer. The variable ones have been eligible in the past. You also can't reach the 50000 points / 5 gift cards per account limit without purchasing 5x variable cards with $500 loaded onto each.
I purchased a variable card yesterday which should show up in my account later today. I'll post here the results.

          • @melbourne guy: Agree it does imply that but the advice I had was very definite and past promotions have shown the variable card as part of that promotion. This time it is not pictured by implication is not included.

The store advice and FB advice will cost me $40, so I will be VERY interested and appreciative if you post your result either way.

            • +2

@IanC: My points have come through. Variable Gift Cards still give you 20x points.

              • @melbourne guy: Thanks so much… will ask for a $40 compensation gift card.

                • @IanC: Good luck with that, let us know how you go.

                  • @John Kimble: After 50 mins the following.

They are adamant that the variable card was not eligible because

                    1. Picture not shown

2.Example of points awarded does not include the variable card.

No answer as to why the card was not excluded in the fine print.

They will consider a claim if a copy of awarded points for the variable card is sent to them ( obviously impossible)

however if in fact that is verified it only means a mistake has been made and I will still not be compensated.

Just got a 500 card at Big W on current promotion so problem solved anyway

  • So if a $100 Apple GC gives you 2000 Flybuys points which is $10 off shopping, the offer is effectively 10% off?

    Or am I missing something?

Given the lack of Apple GC discounts for a while I guess it's not bad. Thanks OP

    • +1

      Correct.

They've had a couple of Woolworths and Big W promos lately. Just one with Big W the other week in fact.

    • +2

Some people see these 20x points offers as either 10% off if they are a regular shopper at the store or a 9.1% off offer because you have to spend $110 in total ($100 on gift cards during first visit, then minimum $10 during second visit) to get $10 off.

      • +1

I usually opt for the Woolies deals since the points accrual and stacking is better. Stacking their bonus points deals on top of boosted points offers and then using EDR dollars accrued from the 20x points promo tends to work out much better in my situation. I also get more personally targetted offers from Woolies than I do Coles, and the min spend is often less than Coles, so it works out to be a better deal for me. But it's different for each individual.

      • +1

I mean you'll probably pay more than minimal of $10 per purchase, at least in Woolies, as you can only use the redeemed dollars in the increment of 10. For example, to pay for $12.34, you can use $10 credit and have to pay $2.34 in cash.

        But it's better than nothing.

    • Spend $100 bonus $10, equal to 10% bonus or 9.1% off (discount).

  • From the upcoming Coles catalogue sale starting Wednesday August 3.

A limit of 5 Gift Cards per Flybuys account applies. Offer valid from 1/8/22 to 9/8/2

    I think they're might be a date conflict here… 🤔

Could OP or someone confirm if the variable load $200-$500 Gift Card is included in this promotion? Thanks in advance.

  • Anyone know how hard are these cards to obtain? Do most stores have plenty of stock or do they run out quickly during these sales?

Can I buy these and add them to my apple account and later purchase a phone with the credit?

    • +1

My guess is that Apple gift cards would be quite easy to obtain, largely because:

      • This type of promotion (20x points) has been the standard type of promotion at Coles, Woolworths and BIG W since November 2021.

      • There have been a number of recent Apple gift card promotions at Woolworths, BIG W, Coles and Card.Gift.

      • There is no major promotion at Apple at the moment.

Can I buy these and add them to my apple account and later purchase a phone with the credit?

You can, but you need to think about whether this is a good idea for your situation.

      • You can use Apple gift cards to pay for purchases in-store, online (max 8 per transaction) and over the phone at 133 MAC.

      • You currently can only use an Apple Account Associated Balance to pay for purchases online (in conjunction with up to 8 Apple gift cards) and over the phone at 133 MAC. It is currently not possible to redeem an Apple Account Associated Balance at Australian Apple Retail Stores, although I suspect this will change, considering Apple started letting you do this in the USA within the last couple of months.

      • I've heard that apple price match instore for up to 10% of the price difference. Can they price match over the phone at 133 MAC as well?

I'm thinking of just getting $200 gift card to play it safe and not loose out on the flyboys points. Problem is then I will have about 10 gift cards for the purchase I want to make :(
So I'm thinking of loading up my account balance to get round this.

        • +1

I’ve heard that the Apple staff can price match (up to a 10% discount) over the phone on 133 MAC as well, but I’ve never tested this out myself.

@WookieMonster: Just got home after buying my cards. At the end I bought the variable cards. I signed up for Hiver this morning and used google pay wallet to pay. Only worked for $500. Card machine came back with the error daily limit exceeded. for the other $500 ones

    • +1

Stock will usually not be an issue with these.

    • +1

Last year when they first came out and Woolies and Coles did 30x points promo, they disappeared very quickly.

In the last few months, there have been plenty of stock in the stores I go to.

  • Does this promo work with variable card? I want to buy the exact amount i need for the base ipad on edu store.

    • +1
      • Thanks!

    • +1

Yes it does. Pick up the $20-500 card and advise cashier of exact amount you want loaded.

      • Thanks

  • can we use Coles Mastercard prepaid (10% deal previously) to buy these?

  • Does Coles let you purchase Apple gift cards using Coles Myer gift cards?

  • -2

Can I use these to settle my ATO debt, or is it just iTunes gift cards?

  • If you use a hiver card, can you get 5% cashback on these gift cards?

    • +1

      Yes, as long as:

      • You follow all the terms in the Hiver cashback offer. Make sure your payment goes through the Visa network (not the EFTPOS network). Coles has least cost routing (LCR) turned on for Visa/EFTPOS dual-network debit cards, which means that tapping a Hiver debit card against the EFTPOS terminal will route the payment through the EFTPOS network (which is ineligible for cashback), not the Visa network.

      • You do not get cashout through the EFTPOS network in the same transaction. If you get cashout through the EFTPOS network, the MCC assigned to the transaction will switch from 5411 (Grocery Stores, Supermarkets) to something else, which means the transaction will no longer be eligible for cashback. If you want to get cashout from Coles and purchase the gift cards in this deal, do that in separate transactions.

  • Question: if i have say $100 worth of flybuys points, can i use it to buy a $100 Apple gift card? or can i only use flybuy points to reduce my supermarket spend by $10?

    • +2

Flybuys Dollars cannot be used to purchase any gift cards at Coles. If you attempt this, you’ll get an Invalid Product Mix error as soon as you swipe the Flybuys card on the EFTPOS terminal and you’ll be sent back to the payment screen. I’m not sure if there are any other product categories at Coles that cannot be paid for using Flybuys Dollars.

However, if you have a Coles Financial Services product tied with your Flybuys account and that account has more than 2,000 Flybuys points available, when you scan an Apple gift card and proceed to the payment screen, there will be a pop up asking whether you’d like to redeem 2,000 Flybuys points for a $10 instant discount.

  • What’s the max flybuys points you can hold in one account at a given time?

I still have 50k points from last month

    • +2

I don’t think there is a cap on points balance. I cannot see a maximum in the Flybuys terms and conditions.

HCF offer up to 130,000 bonus Flybuys points as a sign-up bonus, so you can definitely have at least 130,000 Flybuys points on your account at any one time.

    • +1

I don't think there is a max. I have over 150k and still going.

It's just a 50k max for this promotion..
