Multiple Advertisements on Main OzBargain Page Expected?

I'm suddenly seeing lots of advertisements on OzBargain I've never seen before.

Is this expected? Or has my machine been hacked :) ?

From a Mac running Safari with no ad blockers - see screenshot:

Site looks terrible.

Not logged in at the time either.

Ads don't seem to appear on main page when logged in.

Are you logged in when seeing them? Because you’re not in that screenshot.
    Turn ads off in settings.

    • I wasn't logged in at the time - and often are not. No ads appear when I'm logged in.

I just cannot recall the site having so many ads popping up everywhere - makes the site look somewhat scam-shopping-page like.

I understand though the bills have to be paid somehow!

There are two ads placements in your screenshot — banner at the top before the deals, and sticky footer. Top banner is of the wrong size but I guess the provider doesn't have enough inventory.

We have this setup for quite a while already, however neither are shown to logged in users.

    • Just felt like something was off with the site or my computer given close to 50% of the realestate was consumed by ads and blank space.

  • Use the Mac adblocker called Wipr. It costs like $3 iirc, but it's worth it. The free adblockers do work, but Wipr works better. It also works flawlessly for YouTube. It even works on most adult websites. There's an iOS version too which works great and also works with YouTube website. If you aren't the kind of person who ever clicks on ads anyway then it won't hurt anyone.

  • I mean, I don’t mind an ad or two given that OzBargain has become the main website I visit due to how useful it is. They got to make money somehow. Came here thinking I'll save a few bucks though, ended up with PCs, laptops, and a bunch of stuff I don't need.

  • Perhaps they've reset the 'no banner ads' setting recently?

    • No, we have not.
