Of course, it's a fairly popular gin. Used to be my go to gin but there are a lot more options these days. I would usually pick Roku over this is they're similarly priced.
I don't like it either, but the flavoured ones are nice. E.g. bramble.
My go-to gin is Tanqueray No.10.
Tanqueray sevilla orange is the best gin ive tried.

From what I've been told, the people who make sloe for themselves grab the cheapest nastiest gin they can and add the ingredients to that. Wait six months and you end up with a premium gin… apparently.
cant comment for gin but did few vodkas in my days… if you get cheap and nasty, you will end up cheap and nasty but with better flavor on top of it.
sometime what you add is enough to remove the nasty kick from the drink but you still going to end up with headache :)
