Just under $40 for slab of Heineken

Wonder how this makes it into 'international' when it is Origin: Australia ;)

  • +3

If you rate Carlsberg as decent, my pick for value is a slab of 500mL cans for $36.4

    That's equivalent to $24.02 for a slab of 330mL 👍

I know a lot of us rate the Asahi 500mL cans, which are going for $56 here

I have a palate for scotch in winter rather than beer, unless I can pick-up stouts or dark ales, so I reckon these deals are better suited if you just want a 6-pack or two to tide you over, in which case I'd stump up for some cheapos like Asahi or Peroni for $9.10

    • Scotch brandy stouts = winter

      • This is my first winter getting into stouts. Guinness on tap is unbeatable, but the cans are unpalatable. I really like the Cooper's, and I'm trying a White Rabbit Dark Ale soon. Any you'd recommend?

Same for brandy. Gonna try a bottle before spring breaks. Was gonna just try the VS Hennessy. What would you recommend to start at?

        • +1

          Just getting into stouts? Nice!

I really like white rabbit as far as easily available stouts.

Do you have a preference to smokey, chocolate, creamy smoothe, dry, etc?

A recent reasonable priced one I really like is fire stone stout, but can be pricey for a lot of beers in some craft stores.

Jump into a cellarbrations somewhere, many have fantastic craft range (I'm in Perth, and near me is cnr wright and orrong) and also near that is mane liquor both have hundreds of beers in store.

Have fun finding the delicious… And hiding the price from the other half. 6 singles is 10% off…

        • St Agnes VSOP is a quality brandy by a South Australian Distillery. High in my bang for buck ratings. Ticket price is $41 right now and if there's a 20% cashback then it is certainly worth it. https://www.firstchoiceliquor.com.au/spirits/st-agnes-vsop-5…

I also like Coopers Best Extra Stout, often stacks with cashback/Flybuys for great value in a 24 carton. I've even aged a carton a few years to further develop the taste. But the major con is the Coopers family are pro-LNP bible thumper.

To find nice stouts I suggest grabbing a few individual singles at a First Choice or small craft store, aim for $5/bottle. Although at that price I look for more fun sub-genres like milk stouts and coffee stouts. Cans are great and keep better than bottles.

Guinness is a bit watery to me. Kilkenny is a budget Guinness lol.

Good luck, will be interested to hear what you end up enjoying!

    • How did you get a slab of Carlsberg for $36?

    • +2

Carlsbergs are 4 packs not 6 so will be $54.60 a slab

      • You're right, my bad.

Comes to $36.03 for the equivalent 330mL slab. About $3 cheaper than just getting the 330mLs

    • $56 is a good price for Asahi 500ml cans I would pay that any day of the week. Just a shame there are no liquorlands near me.

  • +3

$13.30 for a 6 pack of Guinness will do nicely (2 packs bought)

    • Me too.

      Would have preferred the Kilkenny.

      But none in NSW? Ffs.

got some AU kirin, ahh I miss japan so muchhh

just wanna confirm: only Asahi 500ml cans are from japan, right?

    • Also Yebisu

    • Last time I checked Yebisu was brewed in Japan as well as the Asahi cans, but basically all the other brands of Japanese beer in bottles and cans that we have here are all made in Australia.

Asahi 500mL cans have been out of stock for a long time at my work, and sometime in the last few years Asahi bottles moved from being manufactured in China to Australia so I wouldn't be surprised if the cans go the same way.

  • +3

Can you buy the Japanese made Kirin Ichiban here?

Yes, the 500mL cans of Asahi are made in Japan. The bottles are brewed in Australia.

    • +1

Yebisu is also japanese brewed. Sapporo and Kirin are hard to find the proper stuff.

    • +1

I've found legit Kirin Ichiban plus other things like the proper 9% Strong Zeros (not the 6% -196 stuff you see at big bottle shops) at my local Korean grocery store Hanaromart here in Brisbane. If you have any licensed asian groccery stores near you that will probably be your best bet, although you may have to buy a small proportion of groceries with your purchase.

      • +1

I found one store that sells strong zero 9% but I think they're $9-10 per can. I figure that's too much. Might as well buy the double lemon 6% at $4 per can.

I heard strong zero is about $2/can in Japan.

        • +2

You're right, they're very expensive here, but I convinced myself it was worth it and copped the $9 for a peach flavoured one. They're about $2-$3 in Japan from memory, and you can almost always guarantee that you will be within a few minutes from a konbini so you can buy one at a moments notice. Really want to go back :(

      • +2

I've found proper Sapporo too at local Asian supermarket, but for $39 a six pack they can keep it.
Another Asian shop had the Sapporo gold ('beer like beverage' they call it in JP) which is less alcohol content I believe so it is taxed less. That one was $25 a six pack.
Really want to go back but I don't think Japan wants the gaijins :(

  • thanks OP - ordered Asahi and Yebisu

  • Two 6 packs of Kilkenny for $26.60 with $1.21 cashback. That's pretty good.

  • 5% Cashrewards on selected international beer

  • How come code not work?

    • Not international beer purchase.

  • I tried corona code not work?

    • Only works on 6 packs

  • +1

Thanks picked up Asahi Super Dry Cans 500ml pack of 6 for $16 !! These are so good made in Japan

  • -1

$15 for a four pack of Sapporo or 2 packs for $32. Now that's great value.

  • Thanks. Asahi and Yebisu 6-pack out of stock in NSW. Bought Orion instead.

  • 2 cartons of corona (8x6 packs) delivered for $89.60 here in QLD is not too bad

beer tax rate now at $55.73 per litre
    Corona bottle size 355mL
    4.5% alcohol volume
    24 * 355 = 8520 mL
    8520 * 0.045 = 383.4
    (55.73 / 1000) * 383.4 = $21.36 tax on the carton

    10c refund on bottles = 48 * 0.1 = $4.80 - which beverage supplier funds

margins are not that great once you factor in delivery / processing/handling etc.

not sure how GST fits in too

  • Not too bad.
    Your Products Quantity Price
    Asahi Super Dry Cans 500mL Pack (6) 4 $80.00
    Yebisu Premium Can 350mL Pack (4) 5 $75.00
    TOTAL (incl. GST) $108.50

  • +1

Code is listed on Cashrewards too. And they state "Boosted cashback on selected international beer (05/08/2022)" And upon linking to Liquorland it states 5%

  • Henniger 4 pack 2 for 26 minus 30% also good

  • "The promo code you used is no longer valid and has been removed. Please review your cart and retry your transaction" ????

    • I think the discount only applies to the beers listed in cash Rewards.

  • Thanks OP, picked up 500mL Asahi, Kirin and 350mL Yebisu.

Best part is, free delivery is calculated pre-coupon too!

  • 2 limit per cart? Bit of a shame as I only wanted Sapporo

  • 0 ales

  • Did anyone else get the wrong beers and missing beers in their order?
