Logitech G29 (Playstation & PC) & G920 (Xbox & PC) Racing Wheel - $299 Each (RRP $499) + Shipping @ The Gamesmen

1270

Might not be the cheapest it has ever been but it'd be pretty close.

Shipping is extra but should still make this a good deal.

Got it from that deal in 2019. Those were the days.

    • How do you find it?

      • +13

        Open the closet

      • +3

It's fine for my needs. Not a heavy SIM racer - I had the previous model and there isn't a huge difference.

I prefer the older gear shifter to the new one - had buttons and better materials.

Overall it's okay, but not long after having it I was thinking direct drive

        • Thanks. I’ve been weighing up the options and I agree, direct drive costs much more but it really does sound like it’s worth it if you want a realistic experience.

          • +5

@toasty: Absolutely. But for the cost, you can get into sim or arcade racing pretty cheaply with one of these and see if you want to drop more coin on it down the track. Look on Marketplace for these and see how many people have dived in and then sold a barely used G920 6 months later.

    • +4

This was an excellent deal. I think I remember this one, it was just as I started checking OzBargain daily. If this deal happened again, I wouldn't hesitate to jump at it.

Also, is it just me or are there a lot less extreme deals like these nowadays on OzBargain?

    • Still have mine, unused and sitting in a box

      • Sell it on Marketplace

  • +7

I just got over my obsession of looking into steering wheels for sim racing. This post just sparked that again.

Haven’t used this wheel myself, but those Fanatec direct drive setups are very tempting. If only they got discounted as much as these…

    • +8

Save your money . Don’t get into sim racing, before it’s too late!

  • Anybody know if any brick and mortar stores will price match this? Be good to get it for this weekend.

    • +1

Try HN's online chat. They matched my G29 from some obscure online store 18 months ago.

    • +2

Did a live chat with jb-hifi, was able to price match.

      • Was able to price match as well - $317.09

        • Why $317? Delivery?

          • @cc23: The JB Rep included the delivery cost of Gamesmen. Thought that was just how JB price matching worked.

            Looks like it isn't.

        • I was able to get $299.95.

    • Price matched with JBHIFI via online chat, no pain.

    • JB just declined me "This is a limited stock item which is excluded from our price match policy."

      • Got this response as well, ended up calling them up on 13 52 44 and got it price matched through there

        • I had the opposite - the guy on the phone said it was below staff price so wouldn't match.
I tried the chat and he matched it with the cost of of delivery added (I'm in Vic so I'm ok with that.
I got him to take $10 off the shifter too as it's cheaper at scorptec/pc case gear

  • Are there any wheels that will work with PC, Xbox, and PS5?

  • +1

    Thanks got one

  • Do we need a racing chair as well?
    Sry a noob in gaming.

    • +1

Nope any chair that is stable enough is fine. i've been using a dining chair. If you want to use it in front of a TV though, you may want to get a stand

    • +5

Any chair will be good, but a racing chair will make you go faster*

    • +1

I use my regular Haworth Task chair.

I lock the rocking mechanism and changed the castors to the type that lock when you sit down. Works perfectly.

    • -1

Move the tv in front of your car and put your wheel combo in the passenger side. It's the closest thing you'll get unless you want to spend more

  • +1

I really like Forza Horizon 5. Would this make a game like that more enjoyable? I set transmission to auto using a controller but this looks like it would make changing gears manually fun.

    • +2

Bro. Force feedback will blow your mind.

      • Sounds exciting.

        • Yeah it kicks and pulls like a real steering wheel.

    • +5

The Horizon games are a little more on the arcadey side. You can get a wheel to work alright with them but you will spend time tweaking the settings - the Horizon games really seem aimed at controllers. I can get my G920 to work well with FH5 for racing, then need to tweak the settings for drifting, and then change again for racing.

The Forza Motorsport games though, if you play them the wheel makes a massive difference to lap times and enjoyability.

    • For sure.

I found F1 2020 to be a lot of fun with it

    • +1

I honestly have a hard time with the wheel and forza. I can get the settings ok (not like driving a car but playable) for a particular car after a lot of trying however the arcady physics mean switching to a different car can result in it being near unusable again. I'm far better with a controller.

    • FH5 even has a view setting ideal for wheels - it is an in-car view without a visible steering wheel, just the dash. I was surprised the difference it makes when there isn't a wheel on screen as well as a physical wheel in front of you. Once you switch it is very hard to go back to a controller due to the immersion/fun you will get playing with a wheel. Just lower the rotation, I usually have it set at around 540° for games like FH that sit somewhere between arcade and sim.

I will admit I still use the controller for drifting stages though, as well as other arcade racers with a behind-car view. For me in-car view = wheel, behind-car view = controller.

      • Thanks for the tip.

  • I love my wheel. I would also suggest you check out FB Marketplace. Heaps of people use these once along with stands and then never use again.

  • Anyone selling preowned ?

  • +4

Yeah honestly buy these 2nd hand. SO many people buy these, use them for a week & forget about them. Ive seen them as low as $150, and full setups for $250-400.

  • I’m selling mine now as I’ve never been able to reduce the force feedback down to something that doesn’t shake my whole desk when i wrestle with it, attempted again recently on GT7 on PS5 but nope, seems too powerful, or continuous bug.

    • The Logitechs have the weakest force feedback of all the wheels on the market. Definitely try the settings menu ingame or time for a new desk.

  • Virgin here with these things I’ve never bought them before. Can someone please tell me if this would be good for something like Assetto Corsa on PC? And what’s the quality like on this setup? Is it mid tier?
    Cheers

    • +1

I had this wheel for over a year, before getting a Thrustmaster T300RS GT recently. It's prob classed as mid-tier and great value for money. T300 RS GT is a little smoother, quieter and FFB is more nuanced, but is more expensive.

    • +1

Yep would be fine for AC on PC. I use this on my XBOne and PC for games like AC, Project Cars, Dirt Rally etc. There's not much else which is cheaper and has force feedback, so this is probably low-mid tier but it's still a heap of fun and better than using a controller or mouse/keyboard.

    • +1

The Logitech software is a pain in the arse. I had to downgrade the software as on update crashed project cars and had no idea what was going on. Not sure if the current version has no issues. Been recently using this wheel and oculus quest headset on AC with F1 cars and tracks and it is so awesome. Feels like you are driving F1, although without the G forces.

    • Thanks for the replies guys

      • +1

I use one for assetto corsa and enjoy it. Make sure you download the LUT generator from racezone

  • I almost bought 1 of these off Amazon last week for 375. This was enough to push me over the edge.

Planning to rig it up with a Quest 2… Should be fun.

Anyone buying this to ugprade their Camry?

Got one for my son, thanks OP!

      Absolutely a fair trade.

Anyone have recommendation for a cheap basic stand? I used to mount it too my desk but have moved to a smaller desk in a room with not much space. I find it similar to VR in that if I don't have it set up ready to go then I never bother using it.

    • +1

How cheap? I know some people recommend a saw horse.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-folding-metal-leg-saw…

      • Thanks - I think something that held the pedals would be easier to put away although I do need saw horses anyway…

Omega GT Classic wheel stand. I have this and its great. Nice solid build with plenty of weight…..Folds up and easy to put away too.

Thats what I wanted to buy, but they have no love for WA, NT or TAS….. "Our AUS Store covers delivery to residential and commercial addresses in these Australian States, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria. I ended up getting one of these instead https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/323833691810?2785261, does the trick, collects the dust in the corner beautifully.

        • They look exactly the same. Probably out of the same factory. Mine often also sits in the corner. The Dual Sense controller is amazing with haptics.

        • Yeah this is the one that had been on my watchlist although I think I'll try get one with a shifter holder. Yes the dust collecting has been an issue for mine unless it's all plugged in and ready to go.

      • Thanks, seems to come with two shifter holders and is on sale. I might just pull the trigger on this one.

  • Does this come with shifter? Or that should be purchased separately? I have G27 on PC. But will love to use it with PS5 hence the upgrade.

  • There used to be heaps of deals on this before Covid. Definitely want a fanatec though!

  • I just looked up my receipt. I purchased mine in October 2015 for $291 from uncle Harvey which including the gear shifter. Almost 7 years later it’s held up amazingly. I regret selling it :(

  • +1

Always wanted a wheel as I do love my car games. Not enough room on a desk (when playing on pc) and I (lazily) sit on the floor when console gaming - thus a steering wheel doesn't make a lot of sense for me (but it would be fun).

  • this or Thrustmaster T248?

  • Got one!
Got JB to price match. It’s great with GT7 on the PS5

  • I'm tempted to buy this but not sure if I wanna bite the bullet, I'm just wondering if it's really worth 299$ considering I brought a ps4 slim 500gb w controller for $160 and a switch v1 32gb for 150$. Are these wheels worth it and would I have fun playing F1 21 on my ps4 and or future f1 22 when I get it? What are the chances the wheel goes down to 250$ or 199$ one day? I can't seem to find any decent listings on Facebook marketplace in VIC.

    • Would I be able to resell it for 299$ easily if I decide it's not that good ?
