  • I have this myself, and playing game in 3D games on this is pretty sweet.

    Is that drive 7200rpm?

I don't think it's unreasonable but with the 3rd gen laptops starting to come out around that price or just over (i will give you this has a 3d display) most of the 3rd gens don't around this price they have 786, 2TB on a laptop.. meh, got external drives for that.

But the biggest thing that'd stop me would be the 2nd gen chip.

I know i can get a hp pavillion for "negotiated" at around 1600 for 3rd gen with a smaller drive and no 3d on the screen but with 1080 display

(not really comparing brands just basising it around 3rd gen chip - i'd gladly pay an extra 100 for third gen for your build though).

    Would like 64g mSSD though.

  • I saw this as well and would be interested what others think.

It is using a 2nd gen i7 processor and a older GPU, but I believe the GPUs performance is still fairly good and above what you would normally find in a $1500 laptop (http://community.futuremark.com/hardware/gpu rank 39).

The 2tb drive is not easy to find in a laptop and it has USB 3.0 and a fantastic screen according to reviews.

It is bloody heavy though at around 3.5kgs. This means it is really a desktop replacement and battery life on a monster like this will be terrible.

Fantatic deal for those after 1080p gaming laptops.

The only thing I'll add is that now's the time we should start seeing Sandy Bridge runouts - so it wouldn't surprise me if the Asus G74's etc… start going the same way.

    • There will be more deals to come on sandy bridge and previous gen GPUs, the hard part is it is random and supplies are generally limited of run-out stock. Sometimes you just have to take the plunge and go for it!

  • I prefer Metabox for gaming but good deal for a commercial one.

  • What is this "8GB SSD (Express Cache)" is that user upgradeable ie a standard 2.5" ssd? or is it part of the 2tb drive ie a hybrid drive?

    Can I simply install 2x 2.5" hdds?

    • yeah good question, i'm wondering if it's like a flash micro drive or something, just for boot up or page file or something.

    • The 2tb drive is actually 2 x 1TB 5400RPM drives.
The 8gb drive is seperate to these.
I would probably drop out 1 of the mechanical drives and put an SSD in its place instead.

  • No idea how good the price is for this kind of gaming laptop but.. damn it looks nice. Is that brushed aluminium or just plastic?

    • outside is a glossy plastic, inside is brushed aluminum

  • Good to get some perspective. Was thinking Ivy Bridge will push the price of Sandy Bridge down fairly quick too.
