It has been over a year since these were under $4.

      5 cent cheaper OMG
      deflation!
      RBA quick drop interest rates!

      • +3

At least buying a block of Nong Shim noodles holds its value over time ;-)

    • thats true, always buying these from local asian supermarket but hardly seen them under $4! Will have to stock some now

    • When was this $3-3.50? I kept thinking it is $3 - $3.50

      • +1

The last time it was $3-$3.50, was back in June 2021. Has been ~$4.50 since.

    • +1

Really? I usually buy the 20 packs from Costco which are ~$17 now.

  • +4

What? still the Gold standard IMHO.I'm going to stock up on these now,the last packet I bought only 10 days ago was $8.

  • Anyone know where I can buy fried seaweed?

  • +4

Shin ramyun black is way better.

    • what's the difference?

      • It has an extra sachet which adds more of a savoury flavour.

        • +4

          more of a savoury flavour.

          salt?

        • +5

          Also:
          - noodles are better quality
          - there's pieces of dehydrated beef (but they are literally tiny morsels)
          - the pieces of mushrooms, scallions are bigger.

I also find the broth is less spicy.

          • @uggugg: you can add TVP if you like the dehydrated beef; I'm p sure it's TVP because Shin ramen is vegan friendly!

          • @uggugg: Scallions? 'Round 'ere we like to call em Spring Onions

      • @Raynes Black has anchovies. Immediate pass.

        • Can't say I've noticed any anchovy flavour. Think of it as umami.

          • -4

@Kinjiru: I just noticed it also has pig flesh and and cattle bone broth and shrimp bodies. I think of it as unneeded animal suffering.

        • +1

          cheers for the heads-up ✌️

      • It has this almost creamy yet spicy taste. It's so good! Definitely prefer this over the normal Shin Ramrun.

Chuck this in a pot, add seasoning packets, add bok choy and crack an egg. Let the egg cook for a bit before stirring and then add a bit of soy sauce, sugar, fish sauce and when its nearly done add a little bit of sesame oil.

        • Not sure you need any more soy sauce with the amount of salt in this thing!

          • @uggugg: It's due to the amount of water you use in the pot as it makes the soup a little bland.

    • Still waiting for it to have discount

  • +1

The seasoning is also great for chips or wedges

    • +2

      And stir fry!

Where else would you go for reliable news

  • No stocks in 3 woolies that I visited lolll

  • If only I hadn't stocked up on two cartons of these at Costco the other week…

    • +1

      It was $12.95 for 20 pack…

      • $3.24 for 5-pack !

  • +1

How do these compare to Indomie mie goreng?

    • +1

It's different taste and spicier (but you can reduce the seasoning if you are not into something too spicy).

The obvious one is that it's soup-based, great for chilly winter nights

    • +1

completely different; both delicious! They are both top instant ramens for me so if you like spicy I'd recommend trying it :)

    • +1

If you like the soupy indomie versions (Chicken Curry, Special Chicken etc) you'll like these. Spice wise it's probably similar to the Hot Spicy Mi Goreng.

    • +1

Noodles are harder/chewy in Shin, so hence take longer to cook but also hold their consistency better in soup.

As others say, soup/spice mix is very different to most Indomie's.

  • +8

If you get bored of having it the normal way, aaron and claire have different ways you can try to spice up your ramyun game.

    • +2

Did not expect the milk method to be as good as it turned out, absolute game-changer.

      • milk method to be as good

        Milk? WTH

        • yeah you literally cook the noodles in milk instead of water. sounds weird but trust me its mint

      • Love the milk cooked ones!

      • I like the Samyang noodles variety cooked in milk too.

    • Damn they all look good. I make a couple of these types, but they all end up being like my entire days calories in one bowl haha

      • I often only use half a packet/sachet (packets are bigger than many brands), then add some left over greens/meat and balance it out as a meal.

    • i like their updated video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS7cNioacoQ
peanut butter added at the end is real creamy and nice but the real winner is the Fish sauce + egg & spring onions

  • I enjoy the spiciness buy haven't had these recently because I feel like i'm going to die of a salt overdose, and I don't drink the broth. Ideas?

    • +2

When I see most koreans eat this they actually dont drink the broth… or at least they dont drink all of it.

      • +1

Actually I have a Korean friend. Made one of these for them, full packet and all he cleaned the bowl up.

    • Use less spice mix, but add some chopped chillis for heat and good nutrition

    • If you don't drink the broth then why are you worried?

  • If you've never tried these before, don't use all the spice. It's spicy af, and i say that as someone who enjoys spicy food

    • How do these compare against the Samyang 3x Spicy noodles?
I find those are about the max level I'm comfortable with… Any hotter than that and I'd to start to really struggle.

      • no idea sorry. just try with like 1/5 of the sachet then add more as needed

      • +1

Less spicy than the 1x (black) Samyang

        • Thanks… less than the Black is bugger all. Surprised with all the "too spicy" comments.
I'll give these a try though… maybe they taste better?

  • Wow you really won't be able to find this price anymore, gonna load up

  • how about Coles?

    • Coles is still $8

  • +1

I tried this once and can still see through time

  • max 8 per order, oh well, i’m in lol

  • +2

Too spicy. Noodle itself is good. If you just add half of the spicy sachet, then you just get half of the favour.
