Hurry Durr buy a fibrox, go on get that plain looking, plastic handled sex bomb of a knife.

Yes these are actually nice knives unless you're a super knife nerd. For the average user they need a little bit more care for the edge (steel that holds a sharp edge better is typically more brittle) but will be great to use.

These look nice, cut well, and don't cost a bomb. Go for it.

  • Why can't any of these companies do a standard flat finish vg10/aus10/etc blade (no silly 'Damascus') with a nice clean plain wa handle and bolster?!

    • The Mon linked in the description is plain VG10 with bolster. Not everyone has tiny Donald Trump hands and may like something more substantial than a wa handle…full tang is nice too.

It's more the balance. A lighter handle pushes the cog forward and gives the knife a more nimble feel.

But sure, have a go at my preferences if it makes you happier.

        • You're very sensitive for someone who's come in shit canning a deal you're not interested in.

Plenty of knives you describe out there. No need to poopoo these just because they don't suit your preference buddy

          • @OzBragain: I said absolutely nothing about the deal being bad. If you call that "shit canning" I think youre the very sensitive one haha.

If there are plenty. Can you please show me a single knife from any or these production knife companies that fit a basic blade with a wa handle? Because I've looked. And I can't find anything, so would appreciate the help.

@incipient: Shit canning the product/manufacturer/deal…same same.

Check out Chef's Armoury champ. Not a popular style of knife in Aus, might have to shell out some coin to buy from Japan

Just grab a few of these if that's your preference

No problem if you've gotta go…don't let the door hit you on the way out.

@OzBragain: Honestly, you both need to get a grip.

              • @OzBragain: that's about 2.5x the price, and it's carbon steel, and a deba. I mean it's still a knife I guess. The closest they have is something that's about 2x the price.

Actually the price they have on that mcusta zanmai is damn good….

@incipient: No one said it would be cheap. There's a very small market in Australia for your preference of knife.

    • Its hard to find really simple WA handle knives with those steels, and you wont find them cheap because its not as popular.

The balance of wa handle knives is different, not sure if most people like it.

    • You can take a look on Burrification web store. They have something that may suite your need. The one below maybe suite your need, but out of stock.

Sakai Takayuki "Grand Chef Wa" 240mm Gyuto

      • monosteel construction
      • N685 EXTRA stainless steel
      • double bevel grinding
      • I think he (or she?) is already hesitant to spend $200 on what he wants much less drop nearly $4-500 on a Sakai Takayuki

    • Well because a wa handle is a traditional Japanese handle and traditional Japanese knives are single bevelled carbon steel :/

      • Yes but artisan knifemakers have been making gyutos with wa handles for a long time also.

I think its more that they're not that easy to mass produce. Robots can stamp out VG10 steels and pakkawood handles on them, but mounting in wa handles have to be done by hand… which might be why you dont see any for less than $200.

The closest I could find was the Mcusta Zanmai but I think its daft to pay over $200 for a VG10 knife.

        Better off buying this instead
