[Switch] LEGO City Undercover $17.99 @ Nintendo eShop

880

This game is the cheapest childcare service you will ever buy, bar none. Kids dig it. Its basically the closest thing to a child-friendly GTA that you can get.

The real kicker though is that two kids can play simultaneously in split screen. Absolutely marvellous. Saves so many fights.

Might buy a second copy, love how great it is to share games across consoles - except if you have digital and both kids want to play at the same time.

    • +3

This is avoidable on most consoles by designating a "primary/home" console.
Everyone can play everything on that.
The user that owns/purchased the digital game, signs in on another with the purchasing profile.

      • How do you designate "primary/home"?
I'm getting lost in the settings menu

My all time favourite LEGO game. Great fun for all ages.

  • Thanks OP, immediate buy, lad will love it - a LEGO Marvel game lover and growing tired of Shredder's Revenge currently :)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Great discount. Purchased for my daughter.

  • Is it harder than Creative Minecraft or SM3DW? My kids found Lego Marvel a bit hard

    • +18

Id say its broadly easier than those. I have a severely autistic, non-verbal child who can meaningfully interact with this game, he doesnt complete the missions, he just tools about driving the cars around. His brother is neurotypical, even when he was 6yo he had no real issues completing the missions by and large, occasionally he needed my help in locating items and such.

        You are speaking my language.

      • Lego worlds is $16.48 too so I've grabbed both. Cheers

  • +3

    Thanks for the recommendation.
    It's currently $5.21 on PC (see isthereanydeal.com)

  • Thanks, grabbed it for the kids!

  • How's the load time on the digital version? From the card it's almost 2 minutes for the initial load, might be worth double dipping if load times are shorter

    • That'll teach em.

    • +1

      Similar load times digital

    • +1

Digital is 15 to 52 seconds on oled depending on if its a scene or loading the level/world.

  • Is the performance any good? I just cracked Star Wars lego last week and it’s and absolute unplayable mess. So disappointed 😫

    • Can only speak to the physical version but it's not great in portable mode and not much better in docked. Still playable and the kids probably won't care but the Steam version for $5 is better value if you want something that will be 60fps

    • +1

I have had to play a bit with the kids to help in docked and handheld, it plays fine and kids won't know better anyway.

Aside from long load times the game plays perfectly acceptable.

Anyone who has this for kids know what an appropriate target age would be? The YouTube reviews I watched didn't really help me…

  • Kids will still want to play GTA. It's still the ultimate city sandbox.

  • Thanks OP, split screen looks great

  • Does anyone know if there is a way to purchase games like this when they come on special but not have them appear as being available on the switch?

I want to slow the rate of new games and thereby help with slowing down overall screen time.

But don't want to miss out on the bargain!

  • Hi
My 6yr old nephew is being gifted Nintendo Switch. Am l able to purchase this game for him ? Not sure how it all works.

    • You'll need their Nintendo account to buy this for them. Ask your bro/sister in law for your nephews Nintendo account, if they've made one for him
If it's easier, just transfer the money to them and send the link to the game for them to buy it. If they give you access, log in, then purchase the game under his account and he'll have access to it.
