Generally a 10% increase across the range. A quick analysis on a couple:

    ENTERPRISE 1Kg was $39.95 now $43.95 @ 30% deal $30.77
    SUMATRA 1Kg was $50.95 now $55.90 @ 40% deal $33.54
    COLOMBIA 1Kg was $39.95 now $44.95 @ 30% deal $31.47

Its very good coffee & changing blends between purchases keeps it interesting, however with the increase I probably would ever buy any without a deal now. Especially since I can buy from my local roster for around $36+Kg

Not questioning the coffee - that many people can't be wrong. :)
But I have an impression the tactics of setting up inflated RRP and running sales all the time works.

Looking at the last advertising dates:
12.08.2022 - 30% off All Blends (8 days since the previous deal)
04.08.2022 - 30% off All Blends (8 days since the previous deal)
27.07.2022 - 25% off All Blends (8 days since the previous deal)
19.07.2022 - 40% off Sumatra (7 days since the previous deal)
12.07.2022 - 30% off All Blends (8 days since the previous deal)
04.07.2022 - 30% off All Blends (10 days since the previous deal)
24.06.2022 - 40% off Sumatra (9 days since the previous deal)
15.06.2022 - 30% off All Blends (12 days since the previous deal)
    03.06.2022 - 30% off All Blends

    OzAdvertising? :)

    • -3

      Thanks for the analysis SD!!

    • Could be. Or maybe they just advertise and provide discount when a new batch of fresh beans comes in, so that they can roast them and sell them asap and avoid them getting spoiled. It's a very common technique, but yes, it feels like a lot of advertising very often, but i don't complain as it's good to always have the option of buying discounted coffee at almost any time

  • Going to give twilight a whirl.

    • Great Jhonka - please let us know how it goes for you.

      Cheers
      Dan

      • Do you have any brewing guidelines for twilight? I've seen people say it's better to pull bigger ratio shots 1:2.4 - 1:/3 (40-60 seconds) with lighter roasts.

  • I have to agree with some of the others in here, the price increase on these beans is too much now. It's the same prices as my local coffee brewery and they have won multiple awards for their brews. As much as I really enjoyed the Sumatra it's unfortunately a pass from me now.

    • -1

Thanks for sharing your thoughts A5tro.

I think overall the wholesale price of the green coffee is going up. Your local roaster either still selling old stock or just swallowed the price rise.

As far as I know some importers (can't claim all of them but possible) are buying beans in USD and selling here by calculating AUD price using current exchange rate at the time of sale. So as the AUD is getting cheaper against USD the same stock imported earlier is getting more expensive here.

Thanks to COVID, shortage of field workers in countries like Colombia, global shipping crisis and skyrocketed shipping cost because of that, and USD vs AUD exchange rate Colombian beans I was buying went up almost 60% over the last two years.

      • +2

A simple google search will bring up multiple award winning roasters who roast fresh as well like coffee snobs for example multi award winning and fresh roasted beans. My problem is airjo is charging retail prices like they have won multiple golden bean awards for their brews and putting the price up on top.

Some coffee only tastes better when it's on special, end of the day you can't ask award winning prices when you haven't won anything is my point. I do my coffee's out of a 7K La Marzocco Linea Mini and I've been a enthusiast for many years so it's not about the price of the beans it's about the quality you're getting for the price you pay. Airjo is charging over $55 for for 1kg baga of sumatra blend, now go look at coffee snobs fresh roasted Ethiopia Shakisso Estate 2020 - Multiple medals in the Golden Bean for Espresso, Latte and Filter
2021 - Multiple medals in the Golden Bean for Espresso, Latte and Filter
2021 - Gold medal for best Filter and overall champion of Golden Bean. You can pick up a 1kg bag for $48 "not" on special. And no this is not them giving us "old beans or eating the cost" and this is just one example.

I'm sorry but there's way better beans out there by comparison and they don't charge nearly $60 a bag, airjo is not worth it at that price.

        • -2

I have purchased a few times from Airjo and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of their coffee.

With the discount, the value for money is terrific, especially for those that don't live very close to cities where there's plenty of choice.

1kg Ethiopia Shakisso Estate would cost $60+ to have it delivered to my place. 1kg Sumatra is less than $40 delivered.

Finally, just because Sumatra was not entered into a competition, it doesn't necessarily mean it's not a quality coffee.

Have you compared Ethiopia Shakisso Estate with Sumatra in a blind test to justify such strongly held views?

          • @floppydesk: "Have you compared Ethiopia Shakisso Estate with Sumatra in a blind test to justify such strongly held views?"

Yes I have and Ethiopa Shakisso is much better tasting freshly roasted beans they won multiple awards for a reason, literally back to back to back so for the $18 extra it costs inc shipping now that airjo has put their prices up I won't be penny pinching or I may as well just buy the Aldi Lazzio bean for $20. But then you ask, why don't you just stick with the coffee snobs or other more expensive "award winning roasters"? Because airjo "was" $30 or so for a 1kg bag of organic fresh roasted beans shipped and as I said in my previous comment sometimes a cheap bean can taste good when the price is right. I'm looking for value for money vs the quality you get for that money I'm not looking to penny pinch otherwise as I said just buy Aldi beans.

"With the discount, the value for money is terrific, especially for those that don't live very close to cities where there's plenty of choice"

Yeh for 40% off airjo represents good value, not 30% and not with a 10% price increase. Unless the beans have changed to better quality or you won a award you can't charge award winning prices. Maybe airjo spends to much on ink looking at their packaging and those costs went up? Because I can't find another roaster that put their prices up 10% just yet. Change to plain packaging and lose the 10% increase, bring back the 40% and that's for me where I see the value. Otherwise it's just playing with the ozbargain psychology of throwing big "%'s" in a advert and hoping that fits the mentatility of this website enough to keep pushing ok coffee at higher prices. Those that know won't go for it and would rather spend the extra and buy elsewhere for better quality.

"the value for money is terrific, especially for those that don't live very close to cities where there's plenty of choice"

Then go to your local Aldi, comparatively that's far better value which sounds like is what you're after/preaching because with a statement like that sounds like you need to try different roasters before you can understand what value really is. https://www.aldiunpacked.com.au/aldis-lazzio-coffee-has-done…

            • @CheetoJesus: I spent a lot of time living in rural areas, and never saw a local Aldi ever.

I have actually heard good things about their beans though…and also their beer. Never tried the first. Second I can vouch for.

Where does the name AIRJO come from?

  • Why is sumatra so sour

    • Hey there guoytt
Happy to help if I can.
If you want some feedback or guidance on dialling any blend please email me directly anytime [email protected]

      Cheers
      Dan

    • Why is sumatra so sour

      What is your brewing method?

      • expresso, particle size adjusted , quantity adjusted. Good crema. However it is still sour like wine. 😂 Half price supermarket one taste better if i still cant get it brew right

        • :)
If you are confident you are not under-extracting… You need darker roast.
Or you can try finer grind or/and longer extraction with this one.

          • @SickDmith: I will trial n error to eventually get it right. Ozbargain wont get it wrong if it is not good enough. I believe my brew method have flaw somewhere.

        • +1

          Are you timing/weighing your shots?

  • Slowly making my way through your line-up. I'm trying thunderchild this time and even got a bag of Enterprise as a gift for someone that always commented on the smell of my coffee! Thanks for the great deals OP your beans are still an absolute bargain.

The complainers in this thread will need to get used to coffee price rises across the board as that spiral has only just begun.

    • Super to hear that ripper! Thanks so much.
Keen to hear your thoughts on the Thunderchild.

      Cheers

    Hi,

I noticed there are many types!
    Which one to choose?

What does it mean by rich vs strong?

    • Hey there DRDJMJ.
The simple descriptions are to help a little in comparing the blends. These were the “hero” words that come from our cupping and tasting sessions.

I would recommend you start with our Enterprise Blend as a first option and see how it goes for you.

      I hope that helps.
      Cheers
      Dan

  • Always wanted to try out - great timing as well since we are running out… got one for a friend as well!
edit: got Colombia for both of us

  • Great stuff, a kg of Sumatra blend on the way

    • Awesome mackaxx. Thanks so much!

  • Hey OP (and any other coffee connoisseurs), I've tried a few beans from you now (Enterprise, Sumatra, Twilight) and enjoyed them all, but looking to mix things up this time round. I generally like mine on the stronger side and with milk, any recommendations?

    • Hey there bdo207. I definitely recommend the Stargazer Blend for you as the next one to try.

Hopefully others here will offer their thoughts on the Stargazer. It is our fastest growing blend recently.

I hope that helps and please do let us know how it goes if you do try it.

      Cheers
      Dan

      • Awesome thanks!! And will do :)

  • Giving it a go, 2 kg of enterprise on the way. Cheers.

    • Great stuff Stimps!
Super keen to hear your feedback and thank you.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • I asked in the last thread but didn't get a response.

I've been having Sumatra for about half a year now and have been doing approx 2-2.5:1 ratio with 94 or 95 degrees. Is that the recommended settings?

    • Hey there fedwood.
We recommend aiming for a 2:1 ratio yes.
If your running a double say 18g you’re looking for 36ish out over a 25 second extraction time.
That’s the general target and then you can tweak from there to find exactly what you are looking for.

If you want some feedback on shots to get there you can email me any time [email protected].

      I hope that helps.
      Cheers
      Dan

      • OK, perhaps I'm slightly over extracting it as I usually go about 30ish, sometimes over.

Should the temp be slightly higher for this light roast?

        • 94 should be good fedwood. Let me know how that shorter extraction goes 👍🏼

  • Can you do delayed shipping?

    • Hey hentabara thanks for asking.
Not with these regular sales but you can schedule shipping with our subscription service if that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • Tried many brands before but nothing compares to this.
    Planning to purchase more.
Best brand I've tried. don't waste your money elsewhere
    Very addictive. Highly recommend!
