  • How does this compare to Braun 7 series, anyone got any experience?

    • +1

Can't comment on the 7 series, but I went from an older 5-series to this. The shave is closer but not significantly better. The Panasonic is not so good with picking up flat-lying beard and generally seems to miss more hair on the first pass. Overall they are pretty close in performance. My next shaver will probably be a Braun again, simply because cutter/foil replacements are significantly cheaper.

    • i went from old series 7 to new series 9 pro, 9 pro is way better than series 7 cant compare to this though

    • personally felt Braun 7 is not even close.

Can't compare to Braun 7 but have this model and love it. No issues to report.

Only thing to complain about is the cleaning solution is hard to find and can be expensive.

    • How much does the cleaning solution normally cost on average?

Also, do you have to oil the blades after each use?

      • I think I paid $30 for a 3 pack solution on Amazon.

I like to oil them after each wash to keep the blades in good condition :)

  • This or the arc5?

I have this shaver and Braun 9 pro. This shaver shaves closer than Braun 9 pro and it's a very good shaver. Comparing to Braun 9 pro which costs so much more but less value comparing to this shaver.

    • why you have both?

      • They both appear to be pretty great electric shavers. Why not try both if you can afford them as one might be better than the other for certain shaves.

I just bought the LV67 (same model, but without the cleaner). Currently $249 at Shaver Shop and Amazon. It shaves extremely close (for me, as close or closer than a razor), but it's a little bit annoying that the motor keeps changing speed due to the sensor adjusting speed based on stubble thickness. Personally, I can't conceive how this could in any way improve performance, in fact it probably just takes longer to shave. But I still managed to finish the shave much quicker than a razor, and obviously without cutting myself.

Be careful with the cleaning station! I had the older LV81 with cleaning station, and it's so easy to put the shaver in the station and forget to press the button for "dry", or to press it and find out later that it didn't work or wasn't connected properly. This will dull your blades because the shaver will be wet for 24 hours.

    • Can you elaborate on this? Are you saying you have to press the button to clean it, and at the conclusion then manually tell it to dry? It's not a single button to do the whole operation? (This is the way it works on the braun cleaning station for the series 7 I have currently: Drop shaver in, push button, forget about it)

      • I was cleaning mine under the tap, then putting it in the cleaning station to dry. You can select “dry” option only if you like. Too much trouble to keep the cleaning station supplied with cleaning solution.

Interesting. Does this work well doing it this way as long as you remember to press the dry option? when you clean it under the tap, are you using any type of cleaning solution?

          • @Ice009: Nope. It was fine with just water. Problem is, sometimes the cleaning station sensor doesn't recognise the shaver, so it doesn't start the clean/dry cycle even after you press the button. After this happened many times, the blades became quite blunt. Just got the new shaver (LV67) a few days ago, and the difference is night and day. Finished in about 1/5 of the time, and much closer shave. I'm glad this one doesn't come with the cleaning station. Less risk that I'll blunt the blades.

            • @ForkSnorter: Thanks for the info. Does the LV67 not need a cleaning station? Where did you get that one from?

              • +1

@Ice009: LV67 is exactly the same shaver as the one advertised here for $299, except without the cleaning station. Bought on Monday at shaver shop for $249, same price as amazon. You don't need the cleaning station at all. You just rinse with water (a bit of soap if you prefer), then leave to dry overnight, then lubricate.

                • @ForkSnorter: Alright, thanks. Didn't realize it's the same shaver. The model numbers threw me off. I will make a decision on which one to get, but looks like I'd get the Panasonic over the Braun 9 series I was looking at. I prefer the closer shave and the better price.

  • Hi mate, I missed out on the $299 deal as I sent Panasonic questions through their contact us form on their website and while waiting for a reply, the Shaver shop deal sold out. I got a bit upset with them and told them I missed out on the deal while waiting for their reply. I asked if I could possibly get a sample to test ;). Still haven't heard back as that initial reply said they'd pass my questions on to the relevant department.

I am now looking at the LV67 without the cleaning station and was wondering how you clean it if you don't have the cleaning station? Would there be videos on Youtube showing how to clean it properly? Does it last as long if you don't have the cleaning station?

How often do you normally replace the shaver head, and what parts need replacing? It seems there is both a foil and cutter blades you can buy. How often did you do it on yours? And would the cleaning station help to prolong the life of it, or does it not matter in your opinion? What is the cost of the replacement parts when you last bought them?

Also, you don't have to answer this question as it may not apply to you, but my skin on my head starts to get oily just a couple of hours after showering, so I am guessing I'd have to wash my head (which I will do) before using it so the shaver head doesn't deteriorate as fast.

Is it also preferable to wet your face/head with warm water before using an electric shaver to open up the pores like you would with wet shaving?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

    • I had purchased mine earlier from appliancesonline at $390 with cleaning station. End of year is close by Sales will be on again ;)

Have been using it every 2 days for shaving head and face, and it does a remarkable job. Had not used an electric shaver in a long while, and found this product giving very clean shaves without problems.

Cleaning has not been an issue. I usually run it under tap switched on- and oil it. Dont use the cleaning station much, though I have purchased this solution https://www.harveynorman.com.au/philips-jetclean-cleaning-so… it cleans and lubricates - was for Philips but nonetheless, all similar material manufacturing and usage.

So far, been up to four months with regular use, and the way it is running, I do not see changing the shaver head anytime soon (maybe min 18 months or 2years even wild guess ) - though might purchase one and keep as spare.

Wetting face etc, is trial basis for the individual, though I have noticed no difference. Generally, word is, oily face n head is good as it allows smooth running of the shaver, but each has to try together with the contours of the face.

      • Hi, I was going to send you a PM, but doesn't seem you have them turned on?

Thank you very much for the information. Sounds great. I hadn't come across anyone that uses it for head shaving, so I wasn't too sure how good it is for that. Did it take a bit of practice to get used to shaving your head with it? Are you usually pretty happy with the result/closeness of the shave?

I guess I will have to try it without washing the oil off my head (I thought it might perform worse if I don't wash the oil off, but sounds like it might be better. Thought it might also affect the life of the foil) and also with washing the oil off beforehand to see how it performs when I am able to get one.

As for that Philips cleaning solution, looks good. Do you put some of that on the foil/head first, then run it while washing it under the tap, or is this fluid mainly for use in the cleaning stations?

As for oiling, do you oil it after every use when it's dry? For Oil, I was just going to buy something like this https://www.shavershop.com.au/wahl/clipper-oil-59ml-011787.h…

I am also not sure if you are aware, but I found this awesome review site https://shavercheck.com/panasonic-arc-5-foil-blades/ that says you can use a newer model foil on the older models such as the ES-LV67,so you can pretty much get an upgrade when you have to change the foil. You just need to put it in the same foil frame your electric shaver comes with as some of the frames between models vary, but the foil should fit in the frame. The reviewer said the cutters are the same between all models. Also, another article by the same author (seems like a great guy/reviewer) showing the differences between models https://shavercheck.com/panasonic-arc-5-comparison/

I also found an ES-LV67 on Ebay without the cleaning station for a cheap price, but not sure if I should purchase from there as it's not a proper store. I sent a question last night asking if it comes with full warranty but never got a reply. Do you remember if it comes with 1 or 2 year warranty?

        • Hey:

          No probs.

Lol, your are very detailed with your query ;) all good. The one I purchased is model ES-LV9Q-S841 from appliancesonline, I believe it was at $390 on sale.

          1. Head Shaving: Used to use remington RX5 headshaver : https://www.shavershop.com.au/remington/ultimate-series-rx5-… and in comparison, the Panasonic shaver is way better in my opinion and faster too/easier to clean.

          2. Well to shave head is not difficult- so less than practice, I would say an adjustment- depends on head- size shape and individual flexibility with arms/shoulders. Easy to get hang of it, yes, with reruns/practice. But it is faster than the RX5 and does a clean shave comparable to top physical razer shave or better (not exaggerating). This product delivers so far, no issues. Way easier to clean than RX5.

          3. I normally oil it every third day and have also on after every use (kind of variable), though I dont see much of any problem, if oiling it with few drops after every use/wash on tap- will function as well. As for foil that is something R&D of Panasonic knows, for end consumers, these are all trial basis, so long as it cuts well for as long as it lasts, it good enough really until new foil is required.

4.Fluid is mainly for cleaning station. I dont even always use soap for tap wash- only sometimes, but fluid can be used as well to do the same where the fluid lubricates it as well/ or so it claims on product package. Though with cleaning you could alternatively seek shavershop.com.au as they have sprays to disinfect/lubricate which can circumvent any manual regular cleaning styles one may adapt. But I find luke warm water tap runs with shaver on cleans it well. Once dry, few drops of oil, then switch shaver on for a minute, and this has worked well so far.

          1. Your shaveroil is good- any clipperoil will do, but they also have https://www.shavershop.com.au/shaver-guard/shaver-guardplus-… (not sure on content capacity/usage but for what they claim this is 2 in 1 and easier application)

          2. These models are all very similar for what they do, the end user will NOT be able to tell the difference in shaves. It is the same technology. Like, the one I purchased is a newer model than the one advertised at shavershop for sale; and I would not have thought twice to purchase the one at shavershop despite it being a slightly different model. The performance will be same really. This site you saw is good, I had referred to this site as well when purchasing https://shavercheck.com/panasonic-arc-5-comparison/.

          3. Warranty is for 1 year for the one I purchased. Though depending on retailer- some allow for extended warranty by extra payments.

          4. Ebay vs retailer, so long as the product is an authentic Panasonic shaver - you are all good. But check with ebay seller/ratings etc, and if overseas model how will warranty apply to Australia.

          Cheers.

          • @xximmortalxx: Thanks. Appreciate all that great information. I just gotta find one for a similar price now to what Shavershop had it for about a week and a half ago ($249). I actually went to buy it on my day off from work, but found the sale to be over. The price is now close to 60% higher, so can't purchase it for that price.

  • Any suggestions for cheaper cleaning fluid alternatives? A pack of 3 is $22 on Amazon.
