One of these saved my bacon recently, was so easy to jump my car.

    • Same here, my battery was completely dead but my car started like a brand new battery.

Combined with holding the charge long term and being completely fine stored in my car in the hot sun, its great value.

I've also used it to power my electric blanket via the cigarette attachment.

      • Thanks! I had no idea there are electric blankets that can be powered by 12v. Looking into it now

        • I think he means to say that this device is powered via 12V cigarette attachment and then use the USB port on this device to power electric blanket.

I got flagged down to help someone jumpstart their car. I just used a gooloo to do it rather than risk parking bonnet to bonnet. It was the first time I’ve used it but it was intuitive enough to use without instructions.

I also use it to power my telescope away from mains

    • +2

Exactly this, especially with new euro/jap cars. Also sometimes the jump leads aren't long enough because of the wierd battery placement on some cars

    • +2

Yeah i've jump started several cars for people stuck and a few were hard to get to. One lady was nose in to a spot, and she had someone driving to town to get 3 sets of jumper cables from SCA to link them to reach. It was 5pm on Christmas eve, so just that one jump start made it worthwhile for me.

      • No guarantee the jumper cables would have worked that well anyway, given the voltage drop there would have been from tripling the length of the cable and at each of the joins. If you hadn't had the gooloo, probably would have been easier to push it into a better position to be jump started.

        • With the nose down incline she was on, it was probably a 10 or so person push to get it backed out so the front was accessible for a jump start. That's why they were going to try multiple jumper leads.

Awesome device. Can confirm it's saved me as well. Super easy to use and battery seems to last a while too when stored in the car.

The 4000 Amp version is also on sale for $149.99

Great little unit. Life saver multiple times!

  • +1

these are good can vouch for them

  • I love my older 1200A version that I also use for camping (built in light, USB charger). Works fine with sedan but had to use it yesterday to start my 4x4 that has had dead bettery for a few months and it would not start it, got very hot too, but it is the 1200A version.

    • +2

lol cbf getting a new battery?

  • +1

this has saved my ass a few times and also helped out a fellow stranded car

I never understood why these are so popular on ozbargain, great device and great price compared to the competition but it seems like a niche product. Why are people jump starting cars so often? Soon as my car needs a jump start (every 5 years?) I replace the battery.
Good product though if you are a grey nomad, own a boat or go camping regularly and use your car to power lights, fridge etc

    • +2

Maybe because most can also work as powerbanks? They seem to be very very popular on OzBargain.

      • This is it for me - I bought the GT3000, for an extra $50 you get a very large battery pack that I can use for a myriad of uses whilst on the road or camping, and have the insurance of a jumper kit in the car at all times. For the money, it's an excellent tool

    • +9

I've jump started my own car, friends' car, and even for a stranger in carpark when they left their lights on.

This is one of those things that is better to have and not need it, than need but not have it.

    • +1

Cause they're small, portable and a bit like insurance, never know when you're gonna need them

Also, OzBargain - Buy First, Think later :)

For yourself, for others, spare power bank, just in case you're out whoop whoop and it's forever until roadside assist comes help, if you've just installed a hard wired dash camera and not sure if it's wired properly, some hybrids apparently had issues where they drained really weird if not driven for a few months (lockdowns meant some folks didn't drive for ages!)…

…mostly it's just in case I'm a dimwit and left my lights on.

    • +1

We've got an older 2nd car that doesn't get a lot of driving time. Often when we do go to use it the battery's dead because I've forgotten to charge it once every 2 weeks or so. Used this a few times on it when I needed to go. So much easier than the other car, particularly when the bonnets at the back of the garage…

    • +2

Yeah dont know why i carry a first aid kit of fire extinguisher either.

    • +1

If you don't have one of these then you are 100% relying on roadside assistance if you have a failure at any point in time.

Personally I find that risky as sometimes they can take 30-60 minutes, sometimes you are in a rush or sometimes you might not be in a serviceable area.

  • +1

had to use it a few times on my car. such a good device.

  • Will this work fine with a 2017 Pajero? or the 4000A is better? just need this for father's day, TIA

    • +3

Usually higher Amp is better, but taking into consideration of size, weight, and cost, the 2,000A is more than enough.

Just a quick Google search (not validated), 2017 Pajero requires a battery with 620 CCA (cold cranking amps), it's 1/3 of 2,000.

    • 2017 Pajero looks like a 3.2L Diesel, which is a decent size, not giant.

I've used my 2000A to start a smallish diesel tractor, probably about 1.5L, no worries.

It also started a dead-flat, cold, Ford Kuga 2L turbo diesel, had to use the boost button, then started easily. One charge could start it from cold probably 5 times before needing a charge.

I've also used it to start ride on lawn mowers, easy peasy.

I've needed and used mine more than I've used a spare tire, and everyone keeps a spare tire on hand, but not one of these! Maybe everyone is happy to call roadside assistance.

    • +1

I have a gen 4 Pajero (same generation) and have started it with the 2000A a few times. The only time mine has ever failed was on a stranger's Renault Master, but the Roadside Assist guys weren't able to get it going, either, and ended up having to bring him a new battery.

    • +1

Should be good 2 fo mate been using it for 2 years now, 👌

  • +3

    The diagram is somewhat misrepresenting.

    • 2L = motorcycle
    • 3L = medium sedan
    • 5.5L = large sedan
    • 7.5L = SUV
    • 9L = pickup

But no harm, lots of head room.

  • +3

They only advertise peak current, they don't make it easy to find out the rated cranking amp (CA) or cold cranking amp (CCA).

Not even mentioned in the TECHNICAL DETAILS section. You have to check in the users manuals:

    • GP2000
      • Peak: 2,000A
      • CA: not listed
      • CCA: not listed
    • GP4000
      • Peak: 4,000A
      • CA: 800A (3 seconds), 500A (5 seconds)
      • CCA: not listed

Based on this information, I doubt that the GP2000 can start a 7L diesel engine. Anyway those large trucks usually have dual batteries, so chance of needing a jump start is low.

    • +1

The 2000 has started my 6L engine which is an old school big cam, carby/distributor engine and pretty demanding on the cracking battery. It didnt do it easily, but it done it.

  • Bought one of these in 2020 and after using them for a while they stopped getting charge. When I leave it to charge overnight and wake up next morning, the 1st bar of the battery indicator just keep flashing, couldn't turn on the LED flash light or charge my phone. There are reviews the Amazon page that reported the same thing.

  • +1

In the 5 years of getting my car, never got into a situation where I needed to jump my car but decided to get one just in case. And in just four months after getting it, this device has got me out of a dead battery situation not once but twice. easy to use, and absolutely worth the price. If not on your car, it will come in handy for helping some other driver.

    • +2

This sort of thing usually pays for itself the first time you need to use it. Even if you have roadside assist, it saves you time.

  • Great unit, worth every penny. Helped me not having to pay to replace my battery. Used it a few times and now my battery is all good!

  • +1

Random Person: Do you have jumper cables
You: Yeah I've got a Googoo Gaalaa
Random Person : Geez no need to mock me ill get help from someone else jeez…

    • Sounds like you found eddie murphy

  • Whats the real capacity ?

Bunnings has a unit with 3 year replacement warranty

I reckon most would be lucky to make it 3 years anyway

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-400a-jump-starter-power-ba…

  • Anyone know of any reason you couldn't just leave this connected to a 12V outlet (with a USB charger) in the boot, so it's trickle charging up every time you drive? So you know that it's always charged?

  • +1

Had to borrow one recently with a dead battery. Was very impressed. So compact and easy. Will buy thanks Op
