Interesting product. So you take photos digitally, to convert them back to analouge.

    That's progress!

Wait.. . You find printers interesting?

Boy I've got something for you…

Have you heard of headphones and speakers? This one goes from analog to digital back to analog!!!

What do you think printers are lol

    • +1

      Literally every printer ever

I've got a non-pikachu one. it's one of my best purchases in a long time. Really enjoy having a small instax print on hand. The prints from the printer tends to be slightly undersaturated but the app makes it so easy to adjust that before printing. The final quality is a fair bit better than one taken from an instax camera since your smartphone camera quality is far better than an instax camera.

Also note there is a mini link 2 - just released in June 2022. It's barely changed though in my opinion. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/fujifilm-instax-mini-link…

Be warned DigiDirect's online stock is absolutely garbage. I'm still waiting for orders made 2 months ago. (they'll bribe you with a $50 voucher no min spend if its out of stock - if you are willing to wait an extra month, after which you can cancel your order and have gotten $50 for free).. which you can use to buy the same product again and get another $50 voucher if they have not updated the website yet.

  • Anyone can comment on the quality? Was thinking about buying the instax mini evo, but this is a thirds of the price. How good are these "prints" compared to an original analogue photo?

    • +2

they're no where as great as ones printed in kmart etc, but that's part of the charm. It's nice enough to share and keep and hang them up on the wall, but don't expert perfect quality. I'd liken their quality to original film cameras back in the 80s/90s - which I find really charming.

Definitely not getting instax cameras for quality but great for nostalgia and parties. I’ve got both camera and printer, most times will go to the printer if I want a better outcome. Normal photos on camera and printer a washed out for my liking so I generally up the contrast and color saturation before printing.

They're good little prints, things might be too bright in some places and too dark in others, don't expect 'Perfect Prints'
Great little party photos and there's something charming about having something physical to take home.

The Mini Evo will have the same quality but when you shoot it's a lot faster than connecting the printer to your phone.
Just snap and print with the Evo you can also pair it to your phone and it doubles as a printer like this Mini Link

  • Great price! I paid $129 for this from Amazon

  • Great find.
May I ask what is the difference between this and this one?
    https://www.digidirect.com.au/fujifilm-instax-share-mini-lin…

  • $1/print when film bought in bulk.
    No thanks

    • May i ask where do you buy the films?

      • everywhere kmart officeworks bigw

    • If only the film was 10c a pop then I'd buy without hesitation. Problem is the kids will probably waste hundreds of dollars in prints if I get this

      • +1

I don't consider this to be a kids toy. And you can regulate how much they print, so maybe make them choose a single photo a day they can print, and then they have to delete the digital version, so that way the printed picture of the only one that exists and it has a higher emotional value.

Alternatively, you can buy them one of this thermal kids cameras that print on receipt paper, and they can go crazy with printing pictures

        • How much does a receipt paper cost? Any link would appreciate. TA!

        • Yeah strongly considered that as well. Lots of concerns about BPA content. Don't trust ads claiming no BPA since all sourced from China

https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0883H824Y the regular average price for about 60 pack for $46 makes it $0.76 each on average. I'm not saying it's super cheap or can be compared with 10c prints at kmart, harvey norman that is even larger in size, edge to edge, and objectively better quality too, but they're quite different things.

Comparing like for like sizes you would be looking at 2.5c per print (4-in-one 4" print, cut yourself https://www.kmartphotos.com.au/navigation/index/9?PK=069684c… / Four 2x3" set $0.10) vs 76c per instax print.

The convenience and fun of an instant printer is apples and oranges with going to make prints at a store.

Alternatives to this are like Poloroid Hi Print Printer which is substantially more expensive per print. currently $30 for a 20 pack ($1.50 per print). https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/polaroid-hi-print-2x3-pap…
