Which Galaxy Tab?

I have had a few basic iPads over the years, but my current one is getting a bit wobbly. I am pretty impressed with my Samsung S22U and thinking of moving over to an Galaxy tablet.
But really don’t know what model to look at that is analogous to my iPad Air 2.
What’s the model I should start from?

I may be wrong but it seems the general consensus is Apple does tablets much better than competitors. I don't own an iPad, was gifted a Galaxy tab many years ago and found it very average. I managed to get an A8 from this deal and although it suffices for my needs, you'd read from comments that many were underwhelmed by it.

  • The iPad Air 2 is super old at the moment and pretty much any current Galaxy tablet will be better than what it is. If you wanted a direct competitor/comparison at the time, you'd be looking at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, although again - we're up to the Galaxy Tab S8 at the moment so it's pretty old.

I'd start with somewhere like this to get overall spec comparison:
    https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6742&idPhone2…

Then look for current deals and throw in the tablet to that comparison website so you can see how it stacks up.

Otherwise it's pretty hard to tell you what you'd be good with as I'm not sure whether you use it just for watching TV, for reading books, for the kids etc. and those would all be different use-cases.

I myself use the Galaxy Tab S4 and am super happy with it. Does everything I want (watch Netflix and for travel) easily.

  • What is your budget and what do you need it for?

I managed to snag a second hand S6 Lite for $250 and am happy with it - although I do notice it could be snappier. But that's what you get for not paying $800+ for a tablet.

    • I guess budget is pretty moveable. If something had an awesome screen and was smooth id go up to$700 ish i guess. I'm not a high demand user, use it mainly as a Web browser and email device, watch youtube and read books online.
      Screen quality is important.
Also may use it remotely as a navigator/planner and understand the WiFi tabs have GPS chip.

Is the screen awesome or average?

  • Just wait for the new iPad in a few weeks.

  • Depends what you're doing. For support stick with an iPad. You will have to pay for the privilege.

I got the A8 and it's been decent. Not super amazing but solid enough.
