I noticed lately a lot of posts about dish washing tablets… This better than that etc. The way most of dishwashers are designed, almost does not matter which tablets you'll use getting best results nearly impossible with a tablet due to not utilising detergent during the pre-rinse cycle because tablet is getting disposed into the washer only during the wash cycle. If you throw tablet directly into dishwasher - it will be used during the pre-rinse cycle, but not during the main wash…
I'm not good at videos, but I tried to create one to save money and effort while getting better dish washing results, here it is if you are interested : https://youtu.be/GGDv2x9H-SY

      Theres a part 1 and a part 2

I'd have to disagree, I was getting great results with Fairy Platinum and Finish Quantum, but thought I'd give Costco Kirkland a go. Vastly inferior results, plenty of food residue etc. it was like a completely different machine. I tested everything you could think of, cycles with/without a pre-rinse, and even multiple tablets to make sure there was detergent during both the pre-rinse and main cycle. Didn't matter. I can only conclude that the chemicals themselves do still make a big difference and that they are potentially quite different from brand to brand

      • I have similar experience, I use the Aldi platinum ones and they’re great, however Kirkland ones are poor and don’t clean well.

I think the Aldi ones offer great value and are almost up there with double/triple the price Fairy ones

Kirkland is just power in a pillow

I find that only the fairy platinum (same ones recommended in the description of your video) have produced a consistent wash for me over the years (cycling through multiple dishwashers as we've rented different places) although I'm keen to experiment to see if I can get a good result with cheaper tablets using your method - just need to select a powder to try out

      • +1

Any powder would do. If there is Aldi near you, Aldi powder is great. If you have Amazon Prime subscription there is a link under my video…
Anywho, I tried to stay away from the reasons stated above because my point was not to discriminate brands used, but to bring to peoples attention the fact it is important to know a bit how a dishwasher operating to get best results. Even if you use your fav tablet, the powder in pre-rinse compartment will get you better dish washing results… Just my 5c worth..

        • I did check out your powder recommendation but it doesn't seem to be available with prime and I don't want to pay for delivery. So will wait till next time I go to ALDI

        • +1

And using aldi powder i use less than 5c worth

          • @J5: Great wash every time for less than 5c a cycle… Goes to show how much people are driven by all fancy commercials… No judgement here, just trying to save $$$ for those who open minded in not so easy economic times…

cost per tab is key. 25c or below is best.

    Very expensive..

  • I have these on a sub, works out to around 30c a tab.

  • I find the Aldi "Platinum" ones (~$8 for 40) work fine. You get the occasional chunk that doesn't dissolve but by & large they are great.

  • I always see this and wonder if people know you can go to the Reject shop and get like 100 Finish all in 1 tablets for I think its $20.

maybe I should go to the reject shop and take a photo and make a deal

We used to use those, but they aren't as good IMO as they tend to leave grainy residue, especially inside cups. These liquid type tablets are far better.

  • No artificial lemon scent! FTW! ;)

40c a tablet is expensive…. no deal in my book.

Choice rates this particular tablet 4th in a test of 27 tablets and gets a 'recommended' tag for cleaning ability which is good, but the Fairy brand gets an "F" for company ethics (environmental and social impacts of company, not necessarily the product itself).

The Aldi 18 in 1 ones got 1st, and for about 20c a wash are definitely the best value. But I find they have a pretty strong lemon smell so I don't use them. I can smell the dishwasher before I can hear it!

I always buy the 2nd place one… "Finish Powerball Quantum Ultimate Pro 0%" (a ridiculously long name, but they are great because they have no phosphates, perfumes, or unnecessary additives). And at 2nd place they still wash up real well, just without the overpowering smell.

Wait till they go on sale on Amazon and stock up. Green packaging… buy the multi packs.

    • 0% is my preference also

    • Like the idea of non scented ones, I don't need a fake scent applied to my dishes, if anything you want it not scented so you know its dirty or time to move it on.
