Sealord Hoki Sourdough Crumb Wild Caught Fillets 300g $3 (Was $8) @ Coles

470

Didn't see this in this week's catalogue but came across it during my weekly shop and noticed it was online too.

Grabbed 10 boxes from my local Coles and can confirm it's one of the better frozen hoki fillets around. One piece is absolutely massive and at $1.50 a piece a true bargain.

Only criticism is it's rather bland being only a sourdough crumb base but those who know Hoki its one of the more fatty fishes so a simple dab of lemon juice and tartare sauce does the trick

Also being Australian sourced Hoki and not the usual Vietnamese farmed basa gives this an extra thumbs up in my books 👍

Thanks OP, showing as available in Vic for me. Think it depends on your store, so just change to a different one near you and you might have better luck

35% sour dough!? that's alotta dough. Visualise 1/3 the thickness of your bites are dough.

I think ideally everyone would like 100% fish.
You can get frozen 1KG Hoki fillets for much cheaper than this at $16 but some could argue the pre-batter/crumbed fillets are a convenience.

Most crumbed or battered supermarket freezer fish is about 50% fish.

Grabs 10 boxes and thinks its bland but still a bargain lol. This guy.

    • Buy first, persuade yourself that you've got a good deal later.

      I've done it many times.

We all buy the $1 hamburgers even though the cheeseburger is superior. Dem savings.

      • …and the fact that the cheese is actually plastic, as proven by my twisted gut right after/overnight?

Make Mexican fish tacos, plenty of flavour from the sauce.

This is the brand of crumbed fish I usually by when on special so at this price is a real bargain. Like OP said, compared to other frozen fish brands you get a decent amount of fish in each piece and it’s hoki. Bonus is my kid likes it too. I’m hoping I can find some in stock near me.

  • Spotted same deal in a few stores in VIC too. Few weeks ago it was 3 for $9 but now it's $3 each.

It might be Australian-sourced, but it isn't packed in Australia and it probably isn't packed in NZ either.

  • Sold out at top ryde

    • Ozbargainers purchasing in lots of 10 :D

  • Hoki .. yes, it is! Both the Whiting and Dory in this brand are way better .. get the tempura batter and get more % fish as well .. 🤔 ,, !!

    • The tempura actually had a lower % of fish in this brand.

  • Where is this packed?

    CHINA? VIETNAM?

    Says on the pack.

Thanks OP. My husband found some packs today for $1.50!!! Wouldn’t have looked if you hadn’t posted.

    • Nice work, now that's a true bargain haha!
I'm guessing some stores might be marking it down beyond the $3 to clear space ASAP!

Spoke to the supervisor at my local and was told it was a run out special as they won't be restocking this particular flavour anymore (Sourdough isn't a flavour that sells well apparently)
