Surely you would want real Coca Cola to pair with a Whisky as fine as this?

      • +15

at this price it might as well be real COKE to pair with it.

        • +4

I prefer my coke white too. It's lower in calories too!

  • +49

Thanks, managed to save enough for the bottle cap

    • bottle worth $999

  • Hitachi 21

    • +13

      Hitachi

      brrrrrrrrrr

      • +2

Right? Pretty sure I'd have a much better time with 5 of those than this!

  • +12

    Thanks bought 0.00000000001

  • +13

This still seems a bit much for a 21 Y.O. Japanese.

    • +97

      And also the whisky

      • +2

        LOL that's a 10/10

    • Had tried a few Suntory and Nikka 21s before demand and prices got silly.

The Nikka Taketsuru 21 was my favourite, but at current prices I think the Scottish options are far better value. Shocked that 12yo Yamazaki now goes for more than a 21yo Glenfiddich.

  • +2

    How much for a glass?

    • +4

More than you can afford pal

    • +4

I had a glass at a hotel in Minato. It was about $60 (thankfully I wasn't paying), which is also what I paid for a whole bottle of Yamazaki 12yo at the time.

It was a fantastic whiskey, but I wouldn't pay $60 of my own money for it.

    • +11

At the Suntory Yamazaki Distillery between Kyoto and Osaka there is a tasting room. A 15 mL serve of the 21 year old is ¥800 ($8.50). Or you can try 15 mL of the 30 year old for ¥3,700 ($39). Their standard lineup is ¥100–¥200 ($1.05–$2.10) per 15 mL glass. Well worth a visit.

      • +2

Second this, great experience just don't take kids as they won't let you do the tour (doh!)

  • +8

Price has crashed because of China. No one is paying overpriced Japanese Whisky anymore…

Long way to go still. Can totally see this under $1k real soon.

    • +13

      So….hodl

    • The demand has dropped from China? Just curious

      • They are still in lock down so the Chinese can't really buy anything.

  • +2

That is an awful lot for a blend that has been watered down to 43% alc.

    • That's the crazy thing about Hibiki. It was introduced because the Yamazki's were running low.

    • +15

Whiskey is a broad church. Not everything needs to be cask strength and taste like a bandaid left in an ashtray.

  • I'd like to pay for a shot but not rich enough to buy the whole bottle

  • +11

    It's by nature only a 300 400 bucks whiskey

    • +14

This is actually kinda true if you know the history of Japanese whiskey.

  • +4

Is it better to mix with Coke or Pepsi?

    • Dry is the correct answer

    • Better with ice.

      • +1

        Ice? LA Ice?

    • Yes

  • Purchased. Thanks OP.

    • +2

      Can I have a nip?

      • +18

        That's racist.

      • +3

Can give a nip slip for a sip.

  • -7

Hmmmm a 21 yo Japanese… Just the way my dad likes it. Too bad he's not getting any

  • +1

    Has this sold out yet?

    • +4

      Yes.
I just bought the last pallet of them

  • +6

    This or RTX3080ti?

    • Rtx 3080ti can get you many Hibiki 21 Y.O. Japanese Whisky 700ml

    • +1

      HODL both

  • +1

    I bought 10. thanks!

  • +7

Amazing mixed with coke. But only real coke, not that good with the cheap Coles Coke substitute.

    • +3

Mexican coke with real cane sugar….

      • +3

If go down that way i will straight away get some Columbian "Coke"

      • +3

don't we get coke with real sugar? i thought this was an american "delicacy" as theirs is the high fructose corn syrup version

    • Why would you mix this with anything omg.

      • +4

Some people like to enhance their soft drinks, what's wrong with that.

        • You don’t mix good whisky with anything. If you want to mix go buy Johnny red.

          • +4

@Davbar24: But this tastes better than Johnny red. I like to have the best with my coke

  • Too rich for me…

  • -8

Told my brother about this and he used my credit card to place an order for Father’s Day, that’s one week of my pay gone for a glorified bottle of piss.

    • +11

Weird flex (if anything to flex at) but ok.

  • +8

    Sir, this is OzBargain.

    • +4

Ozbargain? I thought this was the line for Metallica!

  • +1

Well that's this years work Secret Santa sorted.

  • +2

Perfect mixer for my LA ice cola

  • Is this what they add to the cooking on Iron Chef?

  • I would think, if I am getting the real deal…..

  • Surely all the Bitcoin millionaires can pick up a bottle.

  • +4

I mean seriously. If you can afford this and you still read oz bargain you need professional help.

    • +7

Maybe they can afford it because they read Ozbargain?

    • Why? Being on Ozbargain is one of the reasons I can afford this. I actually have a bottle of this(well quarter bottle now) but I bought it when it was well under 400 a bottle, not worth this price to me, can get far better for this price.

  • +3

Finally, the high yield whisky we've been waiting for.

    • +2

Only thing you should be drinking before driving your high yield euro car.

  • +3

Do the recycle stations pay a bonus for these bottles …..

  • +5

Thanks! My dad loves 21 year olds

  • +1

Pay $1399 to ruin your liver lol

    • Good thing livers are self regenerating

      • Mines not anymore :( moonshine finished it off :p

    • you must be fun at parties

  • im sorry but no drink 'experience' is worth 1400 dollars unless it is off a very attractive women's belly button who i have all expenses paid for the night…

    • +3

why not? at the end of the day it's only money, use it while you can.

      • +6

why not? at the end of the day it's only money, use it while you can.

if i had a list of things i could do with 1400 bucks buying this bottle wouldn't being in the top 20000

i hardly drink as is but i reckon you can get a excellent Whiskey for around 200-300 bucks and for around 500 you can get world class whiskey and i and 99.9 percent of the population couldnt tell the difference between drinking that and drinking this

        • +3

I wouldn't buy it at this price either, but nothing wrong with someone else doing that, you may enjoy a holiday, expensive dinner or bungie jumping, others enjoy a fine wine or whisky, each to their own. Never understood why people think their idea of value has to be the correct one.

  • +1

This or a decent TV from the recent jbhifi deals posted on Ozbargain? 😁

    • +3

A TV screen to watch a review of someone drinking this

  • +2

I'm surpassed no one has made the reference to "For relaxing time, make it Suntory time" yet. This is the actual whiskey Bill Murray's character was advertising (although it was 17 year old)

  • Got 10, best mouthwash I have ever had.

  • Cheers, bought 8. Looks like something nice to mix with my aldi cola.

  • +1

What advantages does this have over say, a train, which i can also afford.

  • Beware of fake Hibiki going around… not saying that this is fake but please due your due diligence.

  • +1

posted this in the other thread but will ask here too in case others had the same question - has anyone purchased from these guys before and can confirm if they're legit? No paypal options and a somewhat bare 'contact us' page looks a little suss for a newcomer on their site. Not one review on google either

    • Brief search led to a guy in Wollongong.

      • +1

yup. google mapped their listed address, appears to be your average/slightly rundown residential address to me. staying out for now

  • -1

2340 clickthroughs after 15 hours. There are a lot of rich people on OzBargain. Might as well purchase several 1 million $ + investment properties at the same time as well; you know you can afford it.

    • It's just people clicking to see comments

I tried the Suntory Yamazaki 12 year single malt whiskey. Pear and sweetness my ass. I now know what paint stripper tastes like. It was just awful. Why anyone in their right mind would pay $1,399 for paint stripper is beyond me.
